Hi,
I've also had IBS on and off since my 20s, I am now 46. About 11 years ago I had really bad IBS with upper left abdominal pain and alternating stools (sometimes soft/sometimes constipated). Since Novemer of last year I've had a recurrence in symptoms except they are different and a lot worse than before.
This is I have lower left abdominal pain: stitch-like pain that moves around, sometimes achy, sometimes like a stitch or sharp, specially when I move or crouch or press on it. Alternating stools are there too. The difference now is that I'm going through menopause and I think this can really make symptoms worse.
I had my stools tested for blood and that was negative. I also had an ultrasound to make sure it wasn't an ovarian problem, and it was normal. My doctor thinks it's IBS as the pain tends to move and the symptoms are quite vague. Of course, the only way to find out whether it's something else would be to have a colonoscopy - which I'm terrified of doing.
I have decided to give up on doctors for the time being and am now going to a naturopath who is giving me anti-inflammatory herbs for the pain. When I had this 11 years ago I also went to a naturopath and he was able to help me, so I figured this time it should work too.
Have you been tested with a colonoscopy?
