I also have gained an unexplained amount of weight in the 6 months I've been on Coumadin. I've been retired 10 years and have maintained a steady weight of about 172 pounds; however, in the last 6 months I've gone up to 188. Coumadin is the only change in my diet or lifestyle (golf, work out, etc), so there has to be a relationship.
We're you able to lose weight? I to am puffy everywhere. Even my neck! Which is weird. How long did it take your DVT to dissolve? I had surgery but they couldn't remove it all. Still not getting all the blood flow to my foot yet. The clot was behind my knee. Thank you.
i am a 32 year old stroke survivor myself. I had a major stroke last Christmas and they find my Protein S deficiency after that. I have been on Coumadin since and I have lost about 20 pounds to date. I started at 150 and I am now 128 today. I have started running daily since my stroke and trying to watch what i eat, but I think that either the coumadin altered my taste buds, or the stroke did. I don't love to eat like I used to. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing!
I have been on this medication for nearly 6 months due to large bilateral PE and due to come off. I have been eating the same and My weight has been stable however I look like I have put on so much weight due to the puffiness and also looks like I have gained so much weight on my stomach. I am due to see a consultant and come of this in 2 weeks and hopefully I will return to normal. Also the side effects are terrible I am unable to sleep, depressed, constantly in pain as my whole body aches and have swollen ankles. I had an x-ray recently which showed that the clots are still there and dreading being on them for longer. I refuse to stay on them and will probably fight to be on something else as my quality of life has decreased severely.
That is very frustrating. I can say that other than some fatigue, I haven't had any trouble with the coumadin. I got a device to check my INR at home and thank God, because I will have to stay on some kind of blood thinner for life and i have a real hard time getting a vein to take blood twice a week. It took me a long time to get into a therapeutic range but after that, i haven't had any trouble (knock on wood). Good Luck. The Lovenox shots were my nightmare. I hope i never have to do those again.
Good luck I'm not too sure how long I am on them either but was considering asking for the lovenox shots as I have heard it has less side effects than the warfarin.
Hi, I'm on warfarin while I wait for my ablation therapy, I lost 6.5 stones since 2012 and I'm very energetic. The gym 4 times a weekand 3 energetic classes. I've been on warfarin for 4 weeks and I can hardly fit in my trousers. It's really upsetting, especialy because of theguard work I put in to stay trim and fit.
The puffiness is the edema that occurs. People think that edema is generally in the legs. It can happen anywhere on your body. Even your nose.
I was told the exact same thing by my PCP and my hematologist. Taking 10mg daily for a year and had a very considerable weight gain. They would not believe me when I said I did not change one iota in my diet. The weight poured on as soon as I was put on this med. I know the truth and I know my body. This stuff made me gain weight.
I've been on Warfin for 3 months due to bilateral dtvs and PE. I have gained about 10 lbs.
this is true...i took it for 3 yrs and i could not lose weight for nothing....now that i have stop taking it...im losing weight!!!
I just got on it & have gained weight too. This does NOT make me happy @ all. Worked so hard to loose 45 lbs to have it strut to come back is very depressing.
I have been on Coumadin for 3 mos...hoping to be off tomorrow...I have gained weight all in my midsection...I workout daily and nothing helps...tummy does look bloated..my hair is also thin and is breaking off...YIKES is right...
