My girlfriend and I are both in our early 20s, both 100% abstinent and both 100% virgins in our four-year relationship. I know it’s hard to believe, but yes, really, we are. It is very important for both of us, for our relationship with each other, as well as for our shared religious faith. With the freedom that abstinence gives us, we can freely and openly discuss sex on all levels without worry, pressure, shame, fear, or any repercussions whatsoever. It is intimacy on a level beyond the physical, and it will make it all that much more special, comfortable, meaningful, anticipated, and exciting when we eventually get married. That being said, we recently have been sharing our thoughts on anal sex, and have both decided that we would be open to try it after awhile into our married life. This brings me to my question:

If we are both free from any form of disease or infection, and have the proper blood tests to ensure that we are both in fact both “clean,” what risks, if any, would pose a threat to us as a “clean” monogamous couple by having “unprotected” anal sex?

I know that STDs (or STIs) would not be a risk for us in this case, nor would HIV or other blood-related diseases, but we are unclear how other diseases such as hepatitis are transmitted; does one of the couple have to have it in order to transmit it, or is it bacterial? And speaking of which, are there any risks from bacteria? If so, could the risk be eliminated or reduced by an enema or some other measure?

I have tried for some time now to find an answer to my question online, but every page I find is aimed at the “typical” sexually-active single person of today’s society, and always says to “use protection/condoms no matter what!” My girlfriend and I look forward to never using any from of unnatural contraceptives in our marriage (as opposed to Natural Family Planning, which is more effective anyway and has many other added benefits such as an increased and prolonged sex life due to greater appreciation and excitement from having to abstain twice a month). Even though it seems that using a condom for anal sex wouldn’t matter, seeing as how there is no chance of pregnancy anyway, we would still want it to be a total giving of ourselves to one another which unnatural barriers such as condoms prevent (in our shared belief). If the “unprotected” risk is too great, we would prefer to abstain from anal sex altogether rather than use condoms.

Thank you for your time and understanding.
I knew a guy that practiced natural contraception. He has 4 kids.

Newtons law... anything that can happen, will. So dont bank that the rythm method will worrk 100%, just like everything else.

Anal sex does comes with slightly higher health risks than vaginal sex. Feces does contain bacteria. Anal is particularly dangerous in a non-monogamous relationships and "rough" situations. The anus is not designed to self-lubricate, and can tear under enough pressure. The key is applying plenty of lubrication before you do anything, communicating, and stopping if anything hurts.

It is fairly safe to have anal sex without condoms, as long as both of you are STD free. It is on par with French kissing in terms of likelihood of infection if she is "emptied", naturally or through enema. However, you should take a shower afterwards. And never have vaginal sex or fellacio right after anal sex.

I would say it is pretty safe. Plenty of people do it, and for a monogamous couple, it does not pose much of a risk. Condoms would lower your risk, but keep in mind that no exchange of bodily fluids is entirely safe, even normal sex, oral sex, and making out. For example, having unprotected sex with her while she is on her period is much, much riskier.

God made both vaginal and anal sex enjoyable, so I would say that there's no harm in giving it a shot.

If you're really concerned about the medical risks (I'm not a doctor, just a random person on the internet), talk to a physician.

if you are christian, anal sex is a sin...

bacteria(e. coli) is ALWAYS present in the rectum and there is a real concern of the bacteria working it's way into and up the urethra. and trust me, a bacterial infection of the urethra and prostate is no fun...

emptying of the rectum (naturally or with an enema) will only slightly reduce the amount of bacteria, and probability of a bacterial infection...

do not use lubricants with spermicides...

having said that, i practice un-protected anal sex with my wife of 17 years

And on what basis do you make the claim that Anal sex is sin, and why only for a christian?

If it were sinful it would be for all married couples. From my studies of the scripture there are no such limitations and a husband and wife are free to engage in all forms of sexual enjoyment provided it is consensual, and between them (no other 3rd parties) and it gives mutual enjoyment.
