Hello, 2 years ago, when I was 31, I had a partial splenectomy for an epithelial splenic cyst (ESC), which was 20cm, and filled with 1 L of fluid.  It had also internally bled.  I am so very grateful to my brilliant surgeon who gave me the best outcome I could hope for.  Amazingly I had 3 pregnancies and natural births with the cyst at it's fullest size (we didn't know it was there).  I had fatigue for much of my adult life.  The year my youngest was born I became easily sick with flu which became more frequent, intense and lasted longer as the year progressed.  Eventually intense abdominal pain, inability to eat, nausea and weight loss (I'm only petite anyway) led to medical tests and the discovery of the cyst.  I still have 1/2 my spleen and have experienced the best health ever since.  Health peculiarities in my child/teen years are now explained because of the cyst.  I do have some ongoing abdominal pain/sensitivity and can only eat small meals now.  But I have health and vitality now like I have never known.  I wish you all the best with your health too!

My sister in law recently underwent surgery for a large cyst.  The doctors found it attached to the spleen which they removed, a piece of the liver and the diaphragm.  What are her chances they have told her that the part still attached to the diaphragm is cancer but slow moving

my sister had gone the same process when she was nine. after they put alcohol in the cyst, it affect her badly and sit poisoned her. in the end they removed the cyst with half of her spleen.
now (she in nineteen) the cyst is growing back again, in CT scan they saw two cyst growing next to each other. the doctor advised her to remove the spleen. but she doesn't want, because of the side effects...

BelleF has your cyst grown back? I recently found out that I have a large cyst on my spleen (10cmx7.8cmx7.8cm) and I was hoping for a permanent solution without having to completely remove the spleen.

Hello, how difficult for your sister in law. Do you know if the cyst originated in the spleen? I hope she has good medical care as she journeys with this disease. Take care.

Hello, thank you for your post. I empathise as you journey through this, but take heart that with surgical advances it has a much better prognosis now than it used to. As far as I know, almost 4 years on, my cyst hasn't regrown. At 20cm mine was very large, and positioned close to the main blood supply of the spleen. So it looked like my spleen couldn't be saved. But my surgeon burnt the cyst off, preserved half the spleen and was confident the cyst wouldn't regrow. It was laparascopic (keyhole) surgery. As far as I know, surgeons readily perform partial splenectomies these days to preserve spleen function. I hope all goes smoothly for you and you have wonderful medical staff to care for you. Take care.

I had a cyst on my spleen about 10 years ago. We monitored the size and since it was getting larger, the cyst was drained with surgery. It was found accidentally, did not know it was there. They drained a liter of fluid. I believe it is back though because I feel something in the area where my spleen is.

OMG of course you need surgery. I am going in hopefully next week. I suffered for years and they kept on telling me it was gas. I Had a catscan 2nd time and they saw the 3 cm on my spleen and said that is why I have been in pain, set me up with a surgeon right away to have it removed. I can't believe yours is 16 cm and they won't remove it?? Are you kidding me?

My daughter had gallbladder surgery 8/2014, and was great until 6 weeks later. The surgeon said her gallbladder was kind of stuck to her liver with a sheet of scar tissue. he also mentioned by the way, that she has a small splenic cyst, but nothing further than that. Then she has had a pain on her right side, under the rib cage & slightly further down, almost a year and a half. She hurts thru to her back, has pain breathing between her ribs a lot & esp at night, she feels nauseous & full daily. She has terrible constipation & has to use a lot of laxatives. She has lost her desire to get up & around, though she does, she is in a high amount of pain all day long on her right side. I have seen several people say they are nauseous & in pain. Is this what you are dealing with?

Hello,
My twelve years old has the same cyst on her spleen. It started out with what I thought was the stomach flu and fevers. She was in bed for two weeks. Have you found out any other information about your son's cyst?

Hi I just read your message and was wondering if you found any answers? My 12 yr old son and I were told today he has complex cysts on his spleen, but no explanation, simply wait and see with follow up in a couple of months. So I'm curious as you wrote your issue with your son a year ago so what has come from it?
Thanks
