Hi, This is Heather following up to my post above. It is almost 2 months after my fall. The seroma is no longer filling up after having it drained twice. I still have a lump and a dent below it, but it looks better than it did before. I'm glad that I had it drained but it is not back to normal. The plastic surgeon thinks that I have a fat fracture, which basically means the layer of fat was split in half at the area of trauma where I fell. I am going to try deep tissue massage and also purchased a foam roller to work on it at home to see if it improves the appearance at all. I have noticed that when I sleep with compression exercise shorts on it temporarily improves the appearance. I have the option to have a plastic surgery procedure where they will do a fat graft (remove fat from thighs and abdomen and insert in area to balance it out. It will improve the appearance but will not be perfect or back to how it was before the fall. I haven't decided if I want the procedure yet or not. Good luck to everyone. Its a shame that we are all dealing with this.

Hi everyone,
I just found this post and am currently freaking out. My birthday was last Wednesday, June 5th, and I fell down an entire flight of rickety rubber stairs- that are seriously dangerous (I am wondering if I should sue), while wearing rubber converse. The stairs were wet and I slipped and fell so hard on my right buttock. I have a nasty bruise and and large lump that everyone is talking about. I am in the healthcare field and wasn't so sure what I a doctor could tell me to do. It has been 8 days, I saw a physician 2 days ago and she suggested I get a CT scan- if muscle has been displaced she wants to refer me to a specialist. I am wondering if I should skip her and just go straight to a plastic surgeon? I am honestly devastated right now reading these posts. She didn't seem to think it would be permanent and if it was she said plastic surgery could easily correct it, but hearing from everyone that doesn't seem to be the case. I am noting more severe pain and can't sleep at night. I also have to sit for my board exams soon and the test could be as long as 6 hours. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! I am going to put heat on it right now. The size of mine is probably 5 x 7 inches -- it is HUGE.

Everyone,
I thought I was the only one with this problem. I fell going down hard cement steps and happened to land leaning more to my left butt cheek directly with the edge of the stair. I was in the worst pain imaginable, it swelled to the size of a tennis ball. This was 7 years ago. It was purple blueish/black. I went to my primary care, she told me it was a hematoma and to apply heat, so I did. The discoloration went away, but the numbness is still there after so many years. I went to see another Dr. who tried to drain it of fluids, but nothing came out. I had an MRI done, everything checked out. I went to see a general surgeon, they told me I would need to do plastic surgery. Has anyone had any resolution? It is unsightly and embarrassing and in a very bad location. I can't wear anything tight fitting without it being noticeable. It definitely does grow with weight gain. I can't do crunches or sit-ups because of the pressure it puts on that spot on a hard surface. It is equivalent to laying on a hard ball or bump, except it's part of my body; hard to imagine. ANY advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I had a similar thing happen to me. It is horrible. I was also told that it's the fat tissue.. i don't really quite understand what it is back there.. it's completely numb. There is a dent and then a huge bump on top of it. It's unsightly and embarassing. Thinking about it makes me want to cry. If it is not too much trouble, can you please email me with any advice or what has worked for you? I'm not sure what to do, have had several consultations. It is depressing. Thank you, and good luck to you.

I thought I was the only one out their having this problem. I also fell down some stairs landed on a brick stair. the day after I had a huge bruse after the bruse went away I noticed a big bump. I didn't go get it looked at due to the fact I didn't have medicade and didn't have the money to pay the dr bills. I thought it would go away. I had some one tell me rub it 2 to 3 times aday and it will go away. its hard to remember to do that. I was also told if I exercise enough it should flatten out. ive had it for about 4 years now and have lost 45 pounds sence I got it and hasent went down. to me it looks bigger. it don't hurt but I hate it bc I also ee it threw cloths

I WROTE MANY MOONS AGO ON T HIS FORUM AND I SEE MORE PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING I DID. I FELL ON THE STAIRS AND HAD A HUGE BRUISE AND BUMP CLOSE TO THE TOP OF MY RIGHT BUTTOCKS. I DID NOT SEEK HELP RIGHT AWAY BUT A MONTH OR TWO AFTER WHEN I DID THE DOCTOR SAID OKAY NO BLOOD CLOTS AND IT WILL HEAL AND THE SWELLING WILL GO DOWN. BUT BRUISING WENT AWAY AND I WAS LEFT WITH A DENT AND A HUGE BUMP ABOVE ACROSS ALMOST THE WHOLE CHEEK. I WENT FOR AN ULTRASOUND AFTER I TOLD THE DOCTOR SHES AN id**t AND IT DID NOT GO AWAY, (SHE DID NOT MENTION GETTING AN XRAY OR ANYTHING POSSIBLY CAUSE I SAID THERE WAS NO SERIOUS PAIN). THE ULTRASOUND LADY SAID IT WILL TAKE TIME BUT WILL EVENTUALLY GO AWAY AND THAT SHE SAW NO BLEEDING JUST A LARGE MUSCLE TEAR. EVENTUALLY MY SELF ESTEEM DEMINISHED AND DID NOT FEEL SEXY IN MY CLOTHES ANYMORE ANS I WAS CONSTANTLY MAKING SURE THE DEFORMITY WAAS COVERED. SO I BEGAN GETTING DEEP TISSUE MASSAGES AND CUPPING ONCE A WEEK WHICH HELPED. BUT IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS I HAVE BEEN SOLELY FOCUES ON ULTRASOUND WHICH HAS HELPED SO MUCH. I FIRST HAVE THE MACHINE PUT ON FOR 25 MINUTES THAT PULSES ON THE MUSCLE AND THEN 5 MINUTES OF INTENSE ULTRASOUND AND THEN I HEAT AND ICE. IF YOU WANT MORE INFO PLEASE CONTACT ME BUT DEEP PENETRATION OF THE DENT (MUSCLE TEAR) IS CRUCIAL. IM 85 PERCENT TO FULL RECOVERY NOW. HOPING ONE DAY IT WILL BE PERFECT. WISH YOU ALL THE BEST.

This is really helpful to find this forum! I suffered a similar injury to those that have posted - I suffered a very serious fall down a flight of stairs which resulted in severe bruising on my left buttocks, ultimately resulting in a scar/ dent. The incident occured over 20 years ago when I was about 11. I'm now in my early 30's. Throughout the years I have consulted various plastic surgeons to get opinions on what can be done. Obviously, in the time frame since my incident has occured, there has been much medical progress but every doctor that I have seen has told me that I would never see 100 % improvement and even if the dent was to be filled in, I would have dimpling in the area. So I decided not to do anything. It has been so many years that it's just a part of me at this point, but I am alway super aware of it when I wear a bathing suit or form fitting clohing - it is incredibly obvious to me and I go through phases where I am still feel very self conscious about it. I'm posting here to see if anyone has had postitive results with any recent procedures that they have had done to see if it might be worth revisiting the idea of having anything done. At this point, the cost and time it would take to heal has kept me from even visiting another doctor, but interested to hear if anyone has had any success.
