Are there any Catholic practicing people that are diabetic out there?  I have a question for you if you can help me out.  I just went to the doctor last week and it ends up that I have diabetes.  I started my diet plan and had my instructions to check my sugars 3 times a day until my next appointment and keep track of them.  When I went to mass Saturday, I got really sick because of the fasting and the time I got home, I thought I was going to pass out.  I had to eat something quick so to take care of the nausea.  How do you keep from getting sick from not eating all morning?  Any help in this would be great.. God bless.

Hello, I see that you are worried about having to fast on Saturdays when you have Catholic mass?  You shouldn't need to be hungry or hypoglycemic when participating in mass.  You should prepare ahead of time and not be going in feeling miserable.

You should eat breakfast ahead of time so that you have something in your stomach.  If I am correct, don't you just need to fast for an hour before mass?  If I am incorrect in saying that, someone please correct me.  Eat your carbohydrate allotment and additionally, eat more fiber and protein with the meal.  This will help stave off hunger and keep you from feeling sick.  Also, an hour before mass, eat a complex carbohydrate to help keep your blood sugar from plummeting on you.  These things should give you a better experience when going to mass, and you don't have to worry about becoming hypoglycemic.  Does anyone else have anything to offer as far as preparing for mass or fasting? I hope this advice helps you out and good luck with your journey in leading a healthy lifestyle as a diabetic!
