Received my medication yesterday as follows; Voltarol 50mg for two months @3 per day and Ciprofloxacin 500mg 1 per day for six months.
Prior to receiving the medication (as it was a long wait) I have been following a broccli therapy I got off the net , basically cook 250mg in morning in 1 ltr of water slow cook for five minutes, then drink 1/2 ltr in the morning and remainder in the evening, eating the broccli thru the day. I do beleive this has helped me, as I reduced the ibuprofen somewhat and this as stated on the net site is a good anti-inflamatory, I also used some pottasium citrate to reduce any burning , this also worked well, I am now in a position that I do not need it any more(crossed fingers)
Well so far so good and I do feel somewahat better and boy am I eating well again, so the 1.5 stone I lost will soon be back (Hope not I look quite trim for a change).

I still have some unanswered questions , maybe because I did not ask at the time.
Should I have been told what type of prosatitis I have? I just got told prosatitis full stop,
Is it infectious?
Can I pass it on to my partner if unprotected?
Should I be having sex at all until it calms down?
Should I have bad days and good days?
I see the urologist again in a month or so but these are some questions I will ask but need answering sooner if possible

Hi. I suppose most doctor don’t say which prostatis a person has because most people don’t even know that there are a couple of forms…..some of the patients are just satisfied with the drugs they were prescribed and don’t even ask, so I suppose doctors got used to that idea.
I read that prostatis can be caused by some sexually transmitted pathogens like Chlamydia and gonorrhea but it is usually not. However, it happens that a wife of a person who suffers from prostatis gets frequent UTI’s (urinary tract infections caused by bacteria) or even yeast infection if prostatis has been caused by fungus.
So, lets say it is possible but it happens rarely although there are doctors who say it is not possible.
As for the sex thing…..you’re the one who decides…..if you’re not in pain or don’t have any premature ejaculatory problems and feel capable, you are free to have sex then.

For some reason I feel worse today, the end of my penis tingles and left testicle is tender, despite pain killers and my medication, is this normal as I seemed to be improving over the last few days??? :'(

Yes, I am very well aware of the good and bad days in chronic prostatitis. The thing is that you never know what triggers a bad day. The pain can come and go and vary in location. Sometimes it may hit groins, pubic area as well as the genitals. It may even go down to hips and thighs.
This is the biggest problem with chronic prostatitis. People who suffer from it can sometimes feel really bad as if they have suffered a heart attack. They may feel lethargic and fatigued, with low levels of energy and pain all over the body. I would call these the bad days.
What is your sexual life like at the moment? That could be impaired too. In case you experience premature ejaculation, at least you will know the cause. It is not certain that you will suffer from sexual problems but it is possible.

According to the drugs, I would say you suffer from chronic prostatitis. This is the most common form of prostatitis.
Ciproflaxin is prescribed as an antibiotic to kill the bacteria but you are also given Voltarol (diclofenac), which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that serves as a pain killer.
I think you’re just paranoid about passing the infection to your wife but it is actually normal that you feel like this. You are new to all of this and it will probably take some time to learn to deal with it.
You have been tested for STD’s before you were found to suffer from prostatitis, right?
If chlamydia or gonorrhea or candida (fungus) have not been found, then you probably won’t pass anything to your wife. However, you could discuss this with your doctor about it, after all I am no expert.
I am sure you will feel much better, at least mentally now that you started working and have something else to occupy your mind with.

Hi all
Well 11 days on since I started my medication and to be honest the pain is there always and at some points makes me feel sick. The only peace I get is when I am asleep.
The only symptoms I have are pain in the tip of my penis and in my left testicle which feels now like a little hard lump in all the tubes attached, it is very tender and painful to touch. The head sometimes goes red as if I am strangling it
I do not get any sort of yellowish secretions behind my foreskin anymore, is this normal?
I thought somehow I might have started improving as I did before my cyscoscopy, but I now feel worse. I am finding it very difficult to cope with daily life at the moment.
Am I expecting too much at an early stage? I do not think I have got all the symptoms so I suppose that is a blessing

Well, I suppose nobody develops all the possible symptoms.
It is very hard with chronic prostatitis. It may happen that patients don’t always get relief from the antibiotics they are taking. Considering you have been prescribed cipro for 6 months, maybe you should give it a chance.
Have you been advised to have prostate massage? I hear this is helpful if done frequently, I just don’t know who does it-because you have to enter from the anus.
The problem is that you will probably need to learn to cope with the symptoms until you get some relief. If you don’t get any relief, you should definitely report it to your doc after you had finished with this course of antibiotics.

My next appointment at Urologist is end of March, so that will be approx 6 weeks of treatment, so fingers crossed for a result.
Someone advised me to take acidophilus complex to build my good bacteria back up as the antibiotics will be killing off all, well they did sort of work too quickly for me after taking 2, an hour or so later my stomach started making some unusual noises and I had terrible diarhorea for some hours after, bad move I guess.
I am also trying Echinacea tinicture is this okay??
Do you know of any additional things I could do or take to build up my immune system while on antibiotics?
