My son is almost 13 years old and has dilated pupils. He is diagnosed ADHD and on medication since he was 6. He is very fair and has blue eyes.
the same goes for me, only during night times and with poor lighting. ; D
I often had problems as kid with grey sunlight and it annoys the hell out of me, when girls at partys or peers in college point that condotion out. Xo yo man, yo sure you're not doing drugs?
My pupils have always been huge my entire life, but they do get smaller in bright lights. People always assume my eyes are brown when really, they're green. Doesn't make much sense but I'm tired of people asking me if I'm on drugs.
In terms of dilated pupils, mine have always been large. Even in sunlight etc, they don't ever shrink by much. It may be genetic or, as I've always and not-scientifically put it down to, this time I got fistfuls of gravel shoved/sprinkled into my eyes (as bullying) when I was about 4. (As i don't know if I had large pupils prior to this)
Haha, it took forever for me to figure out what colour my eyes were (hazel or green?) as its rarely bright enough in England for my eyes to actually shrink enough to be sure. Hmm.. The greatest they've been is about 0.5mm of green iris left and, at smallest, about 2mm of iris - which is a really sunny day. No real side effects. At most, there is my slight aversion to light and.. I heard being intelligent/well coordinated is a potential side-effect? I'm certainly in the top end of my class, but I can't catch if I'm expecting it (though good at spontaneous saves).
Heard about dilation in blue eyes being more common? - about that, most of my family have blue eyes but don't have this dilation issue. Maybe it is genetic but the dilation is recessive? [but more common in a blue-eyed family?] (my eyes are green with reddish flakes, btw. [other people tend to think ive got brown eyes, but i suppose they're just guessing whenever it comes up in conversations.] )
I get asked by new friends a lot whether I'm on some medication/high. It can be annoying and used to upset me. Instead, it now just leads to a big festival of 'look-at-her-eyes-they're-huge!' In which nearly everyone in the room (be they teachers or staff) gets involved to ogle. It is honestly very weird and awkward on my part. (It doesn't help that above where I commonly sit for lunch is now a poster warning of the dangers of drug-driving, featuring a man with massive pupils...) XD
I'm in middle school and last week i noticed my friends pupils were abnormally large. I just thought that was because we were in a dark hallway but today, we were in the gym and all the lights were on but they were still as large as last week. Her mom is having her take an eye test soon. I really don't know what it means though.
Hello, I was on here to find some answers as to why my 9 year old son's eyes have always been dialated, and it looks like I am not alone. I have not found any solid answers, so I guess I am not to concerned. I always forget to mention it when he is in for his yearly check-up. Also, to add my son has amazingly blue eyes as well! I love his dialated eyes, he looks so darn cute with them, but wanted to make sure there was no medical reason I should be concerned about.
My daughter is 7 and her pupils get huge at various times. I noticed they are bigger at night time when she is tired or in the morning when she wakes up. She also has blue eyes which are now becoming more of a greenish ( the color change is genetic because mine did the same thing just closer to puberty than hers). They get big enough to almost completely cover her eye color. She is normal and developmentally appropriate. We had her eyes checked since she was an infant because she was born 10 weeks early. Maybe one day we will understand more about it.
hey guys, my son is 6 years old and his pupils are always dilated, they do react to light and he has brown eyes which look black all the time because of this. I was wondering if your kids had a hyperactivity problem? my son has been exhibiting some signs hyperactivity (i wouldnt say ADHD) but he sure has a hard time focusing and staying still...I've been wondering if the two could be related.
I too have blue eyes and large pupils. I went to see about getting lasik for my myopia about 10 years ago and the surgeon came in and informed me that I had the largest functional pupils he had seen in 20 years. After which, he assured me that it generally runs in families (my green eyed mom and blue eyed daughter also have large pupils) and that as long as the pupil dilates and contracts normally in light vs. dark settings (albeit never as contracted in bright light as most people) there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Yes, people will occasionally ask if you are on drugs or find it a fascinating topic of conversation for 1.6 minutes, and sunglasses will be your best friend, but other than that it's 100% normal for you as an individual and nothing to get worried about. On the bright side, you can read in near darkness with no issues whatsoever. :-D
I took my 12 yr old son to the eye dr for his dilated eyes. The dr said they weren't concerned as long as the eyes were dilated the same size. The Dr. did give him allergy eye drops for excessive blinking.
