My daughter is now 16 years of age and she has always had really large pupils. People comment on them regulary.
I cannot remember a time she has not had large pupils. Over the years I have asked doctors, health professionals and optometrists and searched the internet.
She is a normal healthy girl and have always been told there is nothing to worry about and none of the doctors have really been the least bit interested.
So I never really worry about it. Would love to know why though.
i have green eys and my eyes nearly always have huge dilated pupils, it usually covers nearly all of my eye. in many parties people come and ask me if i am high because of my eyes and its annoying. i would like my green eyes to be noticed but they are usually covers by the black of my pupil, its annoying. i dont know why that is, please hepl
I also have blue eyes and my pupils are always dialated., To the point where people look at me funny and it freaks my husband out. I also have the oncoming headlight blindness that you describe. I am 50 years old and it has not gotten any better since I started driving at 16....but I have learned to focus on other objects that I can see to judge where I am on the road ( trees, houses, mailboxes , overhead electrical wires). When there are no cars coming at me I can see fine. I have seen many specialists and they say my eyes are perfect..it;s just a genetic anomaly that makes my eyes sensitive to light and I find that I cannot spend a lot of time outdoors in bright sunlight without sunglasses,. Now that I am older I have to wear reading glasses to see small print, and weirdly enough when it is dark, I cannot see some objects but when I take the glasses off, the objects reappear. weird right?
My daughter is now 8 years old. She had blue eyes up until she was 13-15months but after that her eyes turned hazel and have been ever since. However pretty much from the time she was about 1 or 2 years old and maybe as far back as an infant she has always had huge pupils. I started to get nervous because even in the sunlight or any light for that matter her pupils never changed (they were always huge.) I do know that from the time she was an infant to up to age 1 she had blocked tear ducks. So I would like to hear from anyone else if their child who also has very unusual large pupils also had blocked tear ducks when they were an infant. My daughters eyes are huge and so very beautiful if is her most amazing feature but everyone notices and makes comments. I am not sure what to do although I have made an appointment with an eye specialists / opthomologist.
I don't have blue eyes, but my eyes are always dilated and always have been. I am an ICU nurse and I have seen it in other people, not just people on drugs.
OMG I am from Australia and totally shocked at the loaded gun incident. I really do hope Barak can do something about your gun laws because too many innocent lives have been lost already. I am all for home schooling and as a teacher am thinking of doing it myself. My son is eighteen and has trouble with his pupils and double vision. My other son is three and he is the one I am thinking of home schooling
I was told by a chinese doctor, it is an imbalance in the ANS and the thyroid gland is out...take 2 tsp of salt in 2 litres of water daily..it is working
also massage the right and lhs of neck where thyroid is to stimulate it

After reading what you posted, it makes sense. My daughter is 5 and her IQ is 143 and her pupils are always dilated.
I have exactly the same thing and yes it is very weird and I too only get it at night??? It is only a new thing and I know my thyroid has been playing up.... Wether this is related or not I don't know but seems strange . Would love to know more about it.
I have got a weird eye condition called something like constant night blindness. Next to that I just have really bad sight.
One possibility of why you have very large pupils sometimes could be my problem: light. An eye needs light to read properly, when your eyes have enough light the pupils will become quite small because they don't have to work very hard to see everything. When you have a problem with light (read when you need much light) your eyes will constantly 'overcompensate' , which means that they will have to work harder to get the result that your brain wants you to have. Then your pupils will become large.
Another possibility might be aging or bad sight. The same story as above, your eyes will overcompensate to get the best results. Not only will this be tiring for the eyes, it will also enlarge the pupils.
These two things are simple possibilities, this is what the problem is for me at least. There may be many more conditions that can cause large pupils, but just go and see an eye doctor person if you're worried
