I am desperate to find answers- GYN not giving any. I have been having this problem since my c-section 3 years ago.
Any information would be appreciated, I am worried out of my mind.

Thread starter here.
Just to update, i have been on semi-hiatus from exercising for half a yr. The spotting seems to get milder to almost none during this period.
Now returning to exercising thrice (jogging+body toning class at one go) a week, i got spotting during the midcycle for 1 week. That freakish as this has increased from 3-4 days to a week worth of blood loss. it's prolly due to hormonal changes while exercising but will be seeking doc advises soon again.
TryingHarder: maybe change your gyn doc? Have a second opinion for a peace of mind :)

So glad I found this post. I have just started running, about 3 miles 4 times a week as well as weight training 3 times a week (from doing nothing for 5 years while having kids). With the running, comes the spotting, mid-cycle. I thought the running was causing internal haemeraging and was really worried until I found this thread. Just wish I knew what caused it.
I have been spotting for the past 6 months. After about 14months after giving birth I started spotting. Happened most often after running. I'll have a period, no spotting for 4-5 days, then start spotting again after a run. The spotting seems to decrease if I don't run. But running is not something I want to give up! I have normal PAPs and a small Fibroid (3cm). Endometrial canal is normal. I went to the GYN and he schedualed a D&C for me next Wednesday. I'm nervous to have the surgery but I'm desperate to find an answer! I don't want to leave it to a doctor to just shrudge her shoulders and say 'It's nothing'. I have to be certain that there is nothing serious going on down there. Cross my fingers I hope everything will be ok. Will give an update next week when results come back!
OK, came back from a load of tests (pap, ultrasound, uterine biopsy) and thank god all is normal. I was so worried! I just wish I had an answer to the cause. It feels good, however, to know I am not alone.
But I still think this is somehow connected to my c/s, because it all started after that. I am bummed because the spotting started again last week when I was doing weight training and some elliptical. When I had the spotting last year it lasted daily for months and months until I took an exercise hiatus.
My trainer had never heard of anyone else doing this!
FYI, my spotting is thin, light red (since we are sharing).
Can anyone else note whether c/s is connected to the spotting? Also, does this mean we can never exercise blood-free again?

I am so glad I found this site, the same thing happens to me. I recently joined a personal trainer group where we do extreme workouts. I spot everytime I am done. I went to see my doctor and had blood work done. The blood work came back showing my enzymes at 1070, normal being from 1-170. She explained that the spotting I have is due to muscle protein breakdown. She recommended that I make sure to consume adequate amounts of protein and to keep on workin out. I plan to do more research on this topic and will Post a reply as soon as I find more information. I have a few professors helping me look into this matter as they find it very interesting. I will give an update asap.
hello all i'm glad i found this page! i used to go jogging really often then i took a break and went swimming. recently i started jogging again and i have spotting after every jog. i was really worried and scared that there could be some growths and i don't really dare to tell anyone about it.
i'm now on a diet regime and hope to jog almost everyday. the spotting is still occurring and i'm thinking if i should see a doctor.

I am, like many of you, glad to have found this thread. I also spot while exercising. Based on my experience, I think it is caused by the combined events of ovulation and the increase intensity of exercise. I asked my gyn about it awhile back, and she seemed puzzled by my question. After reading all of these replies, I would think this subject would be brought up fequently in a ob-gyn office. I will bring it up again during my next visit.
Got my results back after a D&C and my doc told me he found a benign Polyp in my uterus. He removed it and I have not spotted at all! Even running hard has not brought on even a tiny drop! All clear and happy! For all you spotters my I suggest getting your doc to exam you to see if you have a Polyp. You won't see this on an ultrasound as it is soft tissue. Ultrasounds only pick up harder tissues such as Fibroids. Solved my problem! :-)
Im sooo happy tyo find out that Im not the only one having this issue. I recently started to work out 5-6 times a week and I've been spotting. I cant seem to get an answer from my gynecologyst and most of you could descrive it, this is the most annoying thing ever. It's sort of like a constant period.
Im not on birth control pills and I've never had this before. I used to work out and I never spotted. Has anyone talked to a doctor recently about this situation?

You guys make me feel so much better...I have been exercising regularly for a few weeks now, and I too am spotting! Last night I did a really heavy running workout, and today....spots. I knew exercise can affect your period by shortening it, I just didn't know it could make you spot! I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, unless you drop too much body fat and lose your period entirely. I would say that's something to be concerned about.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your stories...I feel so much better.

I'm another person who googled "spotting after exercise" and was directed to this thread. Glad to know I'm not alone.
This has been happening to me since I was 19 (I'm 32 now). Most of the times it's a slight brown, mucous-like discharge; rarely it's a brighter red droplet. Whenever I do an intense workout (speed work for running, intense core work, etc...) I get some discharge in the hours (up to a full day) afterwards. I'm a triathlete, so my exercise load is pretty heavy. I've discussed this with my OB many, many times. I've had CT and Ultrasound done as well. Nothing serious has ever shown up. Still, I worry every single time that it happens... which is at least 2-3x times per month.
I'm not on any BCPs or other forms of contraception. I wonder if that would actually help?

I had this spotting problem to. It only happened when I workout. I was on birth control pills for years. I stopped taking the pill and came down with severe back pain. Come to find out I had 2 fibroid. Some women don't even know they have fibroid. I would get check to be sure you don't have them.
I also googled spotting and exercise, and here I am. I've been exercising for just over a month now and I'm on the depo injection. I've been on it for nearly 8 years, so I haven't had a period in quite some time. Yet, I still have daily spotting after working out. So, I doubt if going on birth control helps to control it. Would really like to know what is going on... I only workout 5 days a week and only get the spotting on those days. It's really annoying since I now have to watch what I wear after going 7.5 years without caring...
I have the same issue. My main concern is whether it affects fertility. Has anyone had children after experiencing this problem??
