I visited Dr. Katz about four years ago to consult regarding my neurological symptoms related to Lyme Disease. He spent well over two hours with me, had his dog present (no problem) and was periodically interrupted by phone calls from his mother. He drew more than 10 vials of blood to be tested including blood to be sent to I paid $400 plus $200 for the California lab work. He was to call me with two weeks with the results. I waited. No call. I called and left a message. No response. I called at many more times over the following weeks and NEVER got a response. No consultation write-up, no lab reports, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I was very persistent in trying to make contact because by then I was convinced I was "set-up." It was like they did not exist. The kicker is I live in Maine, a full days drive to and from his office. Buyer beware. He may be great to some, but he took blood and money I could ill afford from me and then just never said another word. Nice guy. Did I pursue it in other ways? Yes, I called Medicare and the result was of little interest. Short of another trip to his office which I still fantasize about doing, or a lawyer (right!) what choices are left except letting it go. It does occur to me that an office person might have kept the $ (somehow) and Katz is innocent of all this...so if that is true I'll withdraw my note when I get my $600 returned. I can be reached by my email.

I just left a rather long comment on my experience with Dr. Katz. I has taken me 4 years to rid myself of the anger I experienced. As an RN I have to ask "why would you want to go to an office that treats you so badly and is so unresponsive?" When a physician is in private practice he or she is the one who is responsible for bad, rude behavior by his staff. Dr. Katz must find this behavior acceptable or he would change it. His being nice during a far to lengthy appointment does not balance the rudeness and neglect felt by the staff's actions. I have had Lyme disease since 1981 with many complications and equally as many poor performing doctors, but persistence paid off and I did have my needs met.

I've been a registered nurse for nearly 40 years and have worked with many physicians. I have seen incompetence, rudeness, and arrogance as well as kindness, compassion, and a high level of competency and skill.
Dr. Katz ranks one of the most kind, compassionate and capable doctors I have known. He listens to his patients, puts the pieces together and offers hope. He is open to complimentary health practices and treats his patients with dignity...as a person rather than a diagnosis. As for his receptionist, she's been lovely and no issues.

Saw Sabovic this March and I'll give him props for the diagnosis...Another bout of Lyme, Q Fever and mycoplasma pneumonia but that's where it ended. I had questions since this was my second rodeo with Lyme in a short period...many messages left for him with no response. My feeling was that he got spooked with the Q Fever dx since it's very rare here and CDC reportable at that. Never went back.

Dr Katz' office has ruined my life. I agree with everyone's sentiments here about him, he is a compassionate guy and after 4.5 years of ER's and complete disability, he was the only one who could diagnose me.

But.

I wasn't able to start treatment with him for nearly a year because i lost my insurance and spent the next year paying back medical bills from his visit. When i was finally able to see him again they told me since it had been a year, i would have to do the initial visit and labs all over again, which there was no chance i could afford.

I have spent the past 2 years with other doctors who have no clue what i have, doing failed treatments and allowing the damage to my heart and brain to progress.

I just tried Dr Katz again, out of desperation, to see if they could see me again. This time, now 3 years later, they told me i would in fact be an existing patient so wouldn't need new labs or pay the initial fee- but they aren't taking old patients to make room for new ones.

I'm horrified. Had they told me this 2 years ago i could have seen the doctor and started treatment then but they told me something completely different. I just lost 2 years with this insidious disease, in and out of comas, totally disabled with no prospects. Now, after talking to Katz's office again, i still don't.

There are so many stories of people like me with Dr Katz, people who have been completely boxed out or hung out to dry in the middle of their treatment. Ive never seen such a disorganised operation anywhere, and they have people's lives hanging in the balance.

Don't risk turning into me or one of these other people. You should absolutely avoid the risk of seeing Dr Katz

I traveled to see Dr Katz about 15 years ago. I thought he was great. He gladly took my $800 and started me on doxy, saying he was just a phone call away. Guess what... he did not return any of my call, his office did not return any calls and did not respond to many requests to obtain my medical record. I was thinking of seeing him again but will not after reading your eerily similar experience.
