I have been on Cohens for 2 weeks now and have already lost 7kg. It is actually very easy to follow and I am eating more fruits and vegies than I ever did!

I am not constipated at all (as are alot of other people), I drink 3 litres of water a day which is what I find the hardest to do, but it works.

I am not even following the recipes given but cooking my own recipes but still following it properly.

I have another 17kg to go and I am being realistic and realise the weight loss will slow down but am very happy with how I am going.

Hi everyone, I've just successfully completed the Cohen's Diet! I was 102Kg but now am 80Kg in about 3.5 months. Most importantly, stay focused, don't deviate unless you've got to. Family and peer support is important during those 3.5 months. Telling them that you're on the diet will probably prompt them not to tempt you (if they rly care about you that is). My skin looks better, i feel more energetic and feel great! Only problem is that i've to change my entire wardrobe! No more size 40 jeans for me! =)))

I did this diet in August 2007 to lose weight for my November 2007 wedding. I started at 170 lbs and ended at 135 lbs. I have been off now for over a year and have maintained sensible eating and only gained about 10 lbs back (which included a 2 week cruise to Europe during which I easily gained about 8 of those lbs). Several of my friends at work did the plan with me and had very similar results. The first few days are difficult as your body is withdrawing from bad sugars, processed foods, etc., but I felt fantastic after about 4 days. My skin also got clearer, I had a ton of energy, I lost weight all over my body evenly, etc. I am not a person to jump on bandwagons, but I'm telling you this diet is hands down the best thing I've encountered (and I've tried them all).

Hope this helps :-) Good luck! And definitely check out the bulletin board posted above. It's great!

Hi,

So I am on day 5 or 6 of the diet. I had a good girl friend who lost 33 pounds in 11 weeks. Here is what I like about the diet...

Its less expensive then other diets and normal eating.
Its effective in that I am not that hungry as long as I am following the plan.
I know that if I do what I am told I will get the results. The thing with other diets is that you are not sure whether or not the weight will come off and then you fluctuate and you quit.

This is tough, weighing all your food takes discipline but over all WAY LESS TIME than trying to figure it out as you go and LESS $$ than the $9 salads with a $2 drink + tax and tip for lunch.

I am pretty confident that 11 weeks from now I will be the weight I dream of and that is what makes me stick to it and has it work so far. I will keep you posted. :-)

I've been on the diet since October 2008 and had over 70lbs to lose.

I will be done within 24 weeks.

You DO keep the weight off if you follow the maintenance guidelines... it just takes discipline and following the rules, which are not impossible.

I would have been done sooner, but I went off plan for nearly 4 weeks with a trip to NYC!

I followed the maintenance guidelines in NYC and only gained 2lbs the entire trip!

It is worth it. You just need to be committed!

No, this diet is not any different than other low calorie, low carb diets. Taking blood tests adds no value unless you happen to be a diabetic or have some other chronic illness. If you are generally well but just overweigt or obese, skip paying and put yourself on a great low calorie, low carb diet. You'll get the same results with time.

Hi, I am now finishing my 7th week on the program, and have lost 11kgs! And to top it all off, I feel fantastic! Definately recommend this diet!!! I researched it for well over a year though-- I did not hastily throw my money away!

Most diets I have tried tend to make me lose weight in the areas I need it the least, but Cohens went straight for my big fat gut! haha

I am in Australia, by the way :-) Hence the kgs.

I had 32 kgs to lose, now I am 11 kgs into it... Go me!!!

Oh and also, I am really loving the food, and it is teaching me to cook, and that you don't actually need all the sauces and preservatives to have a tasty meal... Once the results start, you just have no desire to go off the plan! And I have not been hungry!!!!!

As for, the afterlife (as in after the diet)... I know and understand that I cannot go back to maccas and KFC for dinner every other night, or meat pies and Chinese take away for lunch... those are once offs... and provided I live a balanced life (which fresh food, like Cohens promotes) and exercise (which I AM looking forward to) I will be able to maintain the NEW me. Everything in moderation!!! Plus, it's not like I can never taste chocolate cake again... so I am not fussed.

Thanks for reading.

Missy

P.S- As for the person's comment above me about just find any old (low card, low fat) diet and follow it, and viola... ah no, not so simple! You don't think that the majority of us cohenites have literally tried every diet under the sun????!!! Most are FADS that are designed for you to fail (so they can continue to make money off you!!)! Cohens is a no buts or what if diet that really works. We are told straight from the get go, that you MUST follow it 100% and finish refeed to be able to sustain this new you! It isn't a magical miracle fix, but it DOES work. and it works as quickly as your own body will let it!

Hi All

I started the program before christmas and lost 4 kg in 4 weeks. Really easy. However, my urine smells funny..strong smell, different to the no carb diet. I have been off the program over Christmas I I have just started back on it. I am interested to not that my urine has the same smell??? Is this normal? I am drinking lots of water.

Cheers Jill

Yes, I tried this diet and am getting ready to go back on the diet for the new year. HOWEVER, with some modifications per my doctor. The diet does work, rapid weight loss, not really hungry because you keep eating through out the day but very very small amounts of food. The daily calories are only around 600 to 700, why you lose weight so fast.

Be very careful on this diet if you do use it. The first 2 months I lost 48 lbs, was thrilled, all my acid reflux went away, per diabeties symptoms, everything was great. Then I started vomiting, thought I had food poisoning from the chicken but no one else was getting sick. After a few days I'd be okay then not feel well but it would go away. This went on for 10 months, I tried to stay on the diet but kept getting sick, hence no change in weight loss but atleast I didn't gain. The bouts of vomit attacks started getting closer and closer until after 7 months it didn't go away. When I finally went to the doctor they started with anti vomit meds which worked for about a month, I was still nauseous but not vomiting as much so then they ran blood tests and found I was having trouble with my Liver. That prompted an immediate ultra sound which found my Gall Bladder was enlarged. The last 3 months of 2008 I spent having one long Gall Bladder attach, it was horrible, I'd rather deliver twins then go thru that pain again.

The surgeon told me the first symptom of my gallbladder going bad was the heart burn from about 7 years ago, the acid reflux should have prompted my prior doctor in 2003 to get an ultra sound but most don't bother until it gets really bad. The rapid weight loss is what pushed my body over the edge, rapid weight loss creates a chain reaction in the body that creates the stones. When you lose weight to fast it causes the liver to over produce, one of the ways the body processes the over production is turning it into stones, mine ended up in the Gallbladder.

My current DR. who figured out what was wrong with me advised me use the 1st personal diet but modify it, increase the calorie content, she'd prefer 1500 calories but no less then 1200. If you go on this diet take the diet menu, food list, get a calorie book and scale, modify the diet to a SAFE daily calorie allowance. The foods on the diet are low calorie, low sugar content and low carb, it works but it's not in my opinion safe as "sent out as is" by their office.

has anyone tried this diet?

Hi,
I asked the exact same question on a different forum about 4 years ago and decided to take the plunge as I was 90kgs and not feeling really good about myself. I was living in Australia at the time and it was expensive $680.00 so believe me US you have it cheap over there so there’s no excuse.
I went on the diet about 4 years ago and lost 35kgs or approx 70lbs in 3 months. I stuck to it though, and did not deviate once. Believe me this diet works and it will change your life. Don’t feel guilty spending money on yourself, your worth it....
Let me know if you join or not, I'd love to follow your progress.

Hi, I am on the diet right now and I am totally delighted with the results! It has been nineteen days and I have lost almost 8kg's! My goal is to lose 22kg's in total. I am enjoying the food and the strict portions are not a problem for me. I have been creative with the preparing of my food and have energy most of the time. It is the best 'thing' I have done for myself in a long time! I hope you go for it! XD

I did the cohen diet in SouthAfrica, and it is interesting to read all the forums. I have lost 37kg's which is approximately 82 pounds in 16weeks. I do however have more to lose, i never did the refeed program, but did take a 3 months break, i only gained 4 pounds over christmas and new years. your body gets so conditioned over time to accept and absorp only natural and clean foods. this diet as much as it is about your blood type, it is based on clean natural foods and minimal processed foods.
this works soooooo well! i am doing ym second stretch now, and planning to lose another 37pounds in 8weeks.
its possible itss doable and its worth it!!! i have already extended my life by 10years, just from getting healthier on the cohen diet!

This diet works for a variety of reasons, the main reason which has already been mentioned is portion control. You quickly adapt to eating so little but it can be quite difficult at the start.

The trick that I have learned to do is with such a restrictive diet and successfully maintaining it over a long period of time (which is actually a difficult thing as you're depriving yourself of so many of the foods you're used to eating) is to not deprive myself entirely. I usually follow the plan till about dinner. This isn't to say I'll go and eat something energy dense or nutritionally low, but if I feel like I'm deprived of food, I might have a fruit, nut and yoghurt bar, half an avocado or even a slice of bread, none of which are not allowed on the plan. I don't do this everyday, but it helps with the cravings that you get. As long as they are consumed in small amounts, you're still eating so little that you still lose weight rapidly in comparison to other diets. You shouldn't be eating junk or take-away at all if you're serious about this diet. Try and find healthy substitutes, which I know, can be a bit hard. Realistically, who wants to trade KFC chips for half an avocado but you can train yourself to make the avocado seem more appealing, and in the long run, it'll be worth it.

It's important to place this diet in perspective with other healthy diets that health professionals recommend as they encourage you to eat much more than this diet.

I also never got any subsequent blood tests done, mainly because I've never found credible reasoning as to why... I paid for this program and the initial blood test, but never sought clinic support as I wasn't blown away by their knowledge or practical skills. You can get your GP to monitor you while you're on this diet for free, though no doubt they'll encourage you to eat more. They are much more experienced with the way your body works rather than someone who has clearly learned much of this information to create a business out of it.

I've also found that by consuming healthy fats through out the duration of this diet, I don't develop any gall bladder problems which is a common side effect of this diet, because at the end of the day your health is the most important thing, and the weight will come off. It will also keep your skin nice and healthy :-)

Keep at it, I started this program three times before I could make it work for me, and I had to change certain parameters for it to suit me. Everyone's physique and metabolism are different so find a plan that works for you if you find yourself struggling with the plan that they give you.

I hope this helps!
