I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

I just asked my nurse about electrical shocks going through my head when I scheduled an appointment with my primary care doctor and she had never heard of anything like it. It happens when I first lay down in bed and the shock impulse feels like it is going across my head and there is a zapping noise with it. Has anyone experienced that
Hi. I took Zoloft for about two years, about fifteen years ago. I went off of them when I lost my prescription coverage, and the shocks started. The reason I looked up "electric shocks in body" and found this page is because I recently went through a couple of surgeries (thyroid removal and hip replacement) and the shocks are back! It must be either something they gave me in the hospital, or the Tramadol that I'm taking now for pain. During the work week is when I'm most affected because I'm not taking regular doses so I can commute and work safely. This is really a horrible sensation!
I also have this terrible sensation of an electric shock going through my body daily it is constant and some times is on and of also sometimes gets unbearable to cope with, i have tried various medications i have also been diagnosed with schizophrenia and currently anxiety and trying some new medication at the moment
Yes I have the same it feels like sumething is also eating you under your skin from the back off your skull and a rushing feeling and I also don't no what to do anymore it feels like I am gona go mad
Fibromyalgi it sounds like
Hello my dad is suffering from the same thing and we need help to as we want to know what it is and doctors don't do much only through pills at his face
Sugar seems to be the answer. This is not for the people who have allergies or are on meds. I believe this relates to diabetes. Sugar damage the nerves and is toxic diabetics have the same shocks but not as often because they have meds to help sugar level in body. Try avoiding sugar  of any sort and you should notice a difference. Their is not test yet but the sugar builds up so slowly it can not be tested by regular sugar test fellow diabetic diet While avoiding sugars.
Look at the similarities here. This is a classic reaction to wireless technology. A telecom man told me last year that few people realise they can get electric shock type sensations from either their own WLAN or DECT phone or even a close neighbours. Smart meters are causing terrible problems globally. How many people are suffering this?  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
Did you get a smart meter on your home before this started, or even DECT or wifi. See this and my other post: Look at the similarities here. This is a classic reaction to wireless technology. They call it EHS, but I think a huge number of people are probably suffering these symptoms and not making the connection (no pun intended),. I say this also because an ex telecom technician told me last year that few people realise they can get electric shock type sensations from either their own WLAN or DECT phone or even a close neighbours. Also arthritis type pains that get worse and won 't go away until you get rid of the smart meter or wireless device. Have seen letters from German doctors about this sort of issue signed by many doctors asking for government action on safety standards. Smart meters are causing terrible problems globally. I take Paxil and if I miss a day I get these miserable little electric charges, too. Also - I have found if I have a glass of wine or a beer - I guess it "nuetralizes" the effect of the Paxil and also causes these little electric pulses the next day. I rarely drink alcohol - but this is the result. I have found that taking a Vitamin B Complex pill helps - the B vitamins strengthen the nerves. Ibuprofen also helps me, but it takes about 600mg to work. I know that caffiene, amongst other things, depletes Vitamin B from your system, so if you like your caffeine - make sure you take a B complex vitamin every day. If you're experiencing the "shocks" - take another one and see if it helps. Hope this helps someone out there. Good luck!
Hi everyone, I've been also feeling this shock feeling but I'm pretty healthy.  I haven't been on any medication.  It happens through out the day now, but just like others, it happens mostly when I try to fall asleep.  One thing I found might be, for the girl who said she hears noices while blow drying her hair.  It's possible but I'm not a doctor this this..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_head_syndrome.  For the others like me it could be this.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnic_jerk.  If you are just hearing a noise but no shock, it might be this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinnitus.   In general this has messed up my sleeping pattern.  Hope this helps someone!
I had these episodes for many years after coming off of a short stint on Zoloft and Paxel.  My niece also had the shocking feeling for the same reason.  Doctors don't know anything when it comes to this problem.   I finally stopped having them several years ago.  I am convinced that it is drug related.
I first experienced this electric shock feeling all during chemotherapy in 1997 and have always associated it with that. It has recently in the past months started again and for a brief time it is quite uncomfortable.  Other than a thyroid supplement and BP meds I only take supplements and I have been taking those meds for decades. I just wanted to add my experience because it is somewhat less complicated as far as meds and health problems than many of those experiencing this weird sensation, and yet I too am having this.

Hello. I have these shock symptoms at the moment and have a theory on why your bananas may help. My shocks actually started after a big night out raving and I think its got something to do with having depleted serotonin levels. Bananas are a great source of tryptophan which helps to maintain these levels. I think this is more likely to have helped, than the potassium. I would suggest that other people try this as and see how they get on.
