I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

I'm having the same issues its to hard to explain but reading these really helping its like a magnetic wave tumbling over ur body buzzed feel its not physical just seems mental not painful but it becoming a nudiancd for me I going to doctor I think it's anxiety also but let me ask first
Zoloft can really mess you up.  I took it for over 10 years and had horrible reactions when I was taken off of it.  I had the "shocking" issues from the withdrawals, but eventually they do go away.
I have been having the exact symptoms. It's very prevalent when I lie down and just torturous when I first wake up. It's so bad I start sweating. This leaves my body weak and achy all day. I no longer can do the exercises I used to do. I have to jump out of bed. I am seeing my primary care physician who has done an incredible number of blood test, an internal med doc who diagnosed me with PTSD (what the heck?), a psychiatrist who prescribed Xanax, klonopin and Neurontin. I have a history of anxiety which runs in my family. I've been to a rheumatologist who tested me for lupus, and just got a brain MRI and am awaiting the results but from pervious blogs I have a feeling that it will be negative. I thought I was all alone with these symptoms. This is NOT due to panic attacks. It is SO different. If I find an answer from any physician, I will post my result in capital letters for all to see and will keep watching this blog for answers. BTW, my brain has also become very foggy .Cannot concentrate on anything.
I have been on every antiD available and nothing worked. A psych doc weaned me off everything to give my brain a rest then put me on Xanax and klonopin. it was about 2 years later that this electricity started. Incrediby awful when I lie down and when I awake. I can no longer do the elliptical exercise because my legs go numb. Alcohol exacerbates the electrical sensations. I am seeing so many doctors that I am sick of them. No answers. I refuse to give up. I will bug my neurologist until every imaginable test is done!
I too got severe electrical shocks twice while sleeping at night. First time, I got up in the middle of the night with a severe shock. I thought it was an electrical shock and so immediately pulled by wife out of bed to save her from the shock. Both of us were sleeping on a wooden bed which was on a carpet. So there is no way we could get electrical shock. My wife was scared seeing me in a trance like state. She didn't get the shock. It took me some time to realize that that shock was internal. I still don't know the reason for the shocks. I was not on any medication.  A similar incident happened a few months later. Pat, Boston, MA.
maybe slack off on some drugs .I have had the electric shocks in my head and body.Worst one was like a jet engine searing through my brain. Was hell and scary.I guess ya gotta talk to self..i do
my antideoressent started these sensations for me too I hate them ! they scare me
i v been weening myself off anti depressants now 4 past 5wks and iv started experiancing electric shocks i think it is due 2 that.
I sympathize for those who really do have this disorder however, I also want to point out for those that may have evil neighbors/evil friends/evil families  that there are thugs who will bring stun guns into states where they aren't aloud and use them on people because they know it can still harm you because the electrical sensation goes through walls. Those people aren't crazy either and they usually can only describe it as a zapping feeling they even get the jerking of the body with that because these thugs don't think it hurts anyone if they do this but they don't realize it can have real side effects. In my case I am really glad I hadn't been taking meds for years so I knew it couldn't be that and my thug neighbors weren't intelligent about how they did it. They actually thought they were going to have me buy that they could read my mind which if they really could they would have known that I wasn't that stupid and that they gave themselves away in many of their conversations with me so be careful yes it's possible its a disorder it's also possible that you have bad neighbors or  family or ex friends but no one is insane for feeling like they are being zapped by the way I moved away 3 years ago and amazing the zapping stopped never to be returned I was lucky and a friend explained to me what really happened if you think you are in my class of people and not the disorder class what you have to do is call the cops and tell them that the person has a stun gun. Be firm about it and be sure about it and they will most likely check at the very least if they stop the cops from checking you can be assured they probably had something to hide.
I also have both fibromyalgia and am taking effexor. I have been diagnosed since 19.. I am now 43 and have never experienced these types of electrical shocks until I started the effexor. I have actually been on it for over 6 months and have only within last month been experiencing these shocks. It really seems that the common drug that seems to be sticking out is effexor. At least for those on this type of antidepressant. For others it could be antidepressants that have similar ingredients/effects.
I started having electric shocks and I had a MRI and they found a herniated disk that was causing cervical spine stenosis which causes electric shock through once side of your body or both because the disk is hitting the nerve roots.
i just stopped my zoloft and im getting this feeling.
i just started to get this feeling now that ive stopped zoloft. so strange,
Complete and total NON consumption of caffeine will make it less pronounced. I also where earplugs because SOUND seems to be the worst thing and what sends the worst shocks through my body. I feel like a tuning fork that gets struck with ever noise. Even my own talking is unbearable. I have taken Benadrylto help sleep even though I have other drugs that would work as well- Valium and Ambien.. even combined they only offer a minor relief- enough to sleep. Sometimes I wish I could be in a sensory deprivation chamber for just an hour to get relief. I never had these problems until I took anti-depressants. I do have Fibro and the doctor thought it would help with muscle pain and anxiety over my lack of abilities to do things I missed doing or NEED to do - LIKE TAKE A FLIPPING SHOWER...lol He put me on Celexia when I could not afford Cymbalta anymore. Celexia helped with weight loss and agitation but not with much else. When I thought I might be pregnant.. I started weaning myself off and that is when the "zingers" started again. I have never had them go away after stopping any anti-depressant no matter HOW MUCH nervous system suppressants I took. In the long run- you can't take Benadryl and valuim everyday or you turn into a raging bitch- plus your just non-productive at anything but being miserable. I can do THAT all on my own.. Earplugs have been my best defense.. Sometimes a shot of vodka - but I don't work and that might now be the best advice for someone that does. These are only things that work for me and besides the earplugs and NO caffine.. I don't recommended taking more pills and then booze on top of it to make a productive day.. TRY the zip on ANY stimulant and yes ladies that includes chocolate and grain sugar.. No doctor will help you... cause there is really nothing they can do. Suzanne
