Electric shock feeling thru whole body

I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

I do know a lot of depression meds, etc. can have side effects like shocks. One in particular is Effexor, especially if you do not go off of it gradually. My shocks happen like you mention, and at all different times..day or night. This Epilepsy post is very interesting and could help some people. ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowedThanks,Jeff 1st
Electrical Shocks through the body. I began by getting them through my head but now it appears mostly through my feet. I am not on any medication. However, I know through observance, experience, record keeping, measuring the environment - I am Electrosensitive. This type of zapping occurs with Mobile phones and now WIFI from my neighbours which I am able to verify with EMF meter. It appears that the signals are being conducted through my body and I am unable to dispel this through my body. I live on the 2nd floor which is not suitable as we need to be earthed (our feet on the earth) mostly we wear rubber shoes so again we are not earthed. When we lie down we absorb more radiation this is because SAR is absorbed vertically from earth to sky (I stand ready for correction if I haven't understood this correctly) I definitely feel a change when I lie down with heart ectopic beats and I can feel this "ticking" like morse code very fast through my veins or adrenal system, anyhow deep within me. I also get very painful muscle spasms. I have been diagnosed years ago with fibromyalgia and now it has been recognised this is exacerbated by electrical fields. When I am in my flat (with WIFI) I feel "charged" with a fizzing or vibration through my head and body. I really want to help anyone who is trying to find answers for their symptoms. It may be your medication, but it sounds very much like electrosensitivity. There are many organisations to help you. Electrosensitivity UK has a helpline where volunteers are there to speak to you. I am happy to help anyone on this site and by email. Take Care
When I was a little girl i was sexually abused by my step dad almost everyday for 13 yrs. so i dont know if i had a nervous break down but once i was about 9 yrs old and i woke up screaming and anyone who touched me made me feel a very bad shock threw my whole body...i begged my mom not to call 911 because i was afraid they would hurt me too...im 30 yrd old now and i often think of this day and wonder whats wrong with me? what happend that day? I asked my mom if i was sick but she can not remember..has this ever happend to anyone else and do you all think it had to do with the abuse i hide inside? :-) :-( Elesha England, Kentucky
I'm sorry to hear of your experience. Perhaps it would help if you spoke to a counsellor. When you understand yourself inside out you will be able to separate what is emotional and what is a physical sensation caused by the environment. Perhaps if you saw your GP he/she will be able to advise you.
I know this is an older post but I found this very helpful. I have been dealing with most of these symptoms and have recieved very little help from my DR on why. I eventually found SSRI discontinuation syndrome and researched it. I feel more relieved to have some sort of knowlege of what is happening to my body. Now I only need to inform my DR of what is wrong with me!! I have been off of Venlafaxin (Effexor) for three weeks but still have the symptoms real severe. I went off the medication because of the shocks were bothering me so much but the withdrawels are extremely worse. I read that SD Syndrome can last for weeks, months to a year! Has anybody been through this and no longer has symptoms? How long did your symptoms last?
I am another person with the electrical shocks, it started when I was taking effexor, and if I forgot a pill, I would know that I did. Now many years later, I am taking other types of antidepressents and anti anxiety. I wonder after all that I have read, could this be a effect after taking effexor? All my doctors dismissed my issue, neurologist, family, mental health... i feel for everyone on here. BTW.. I have been dealing with this 3 years plus.
I get this electrical shock feeling too. The one on my tongue when I'm falling asleep is the most painful one though. I found out for me, that it's a Kundalini awakening, and my body is not accustomed to distributing the energy properly. I also have alot of static electricity, and shock myself on EVERYTHING. I have learned to do "grounding" meditations and learn to distribute the Kundalini energy throughout my body so that it does not get too crazy and start electrocuting me (very painful). I've tested it out, and found that I only feel the electrocution feelings when I don't do the grounding exercises. I'm not saying that it's the answer to everyone's electrocution problem, but it was the answer to mine. Try looking up "Chakras" and "Kundalini" and see if any of the other symptoms resonate with you. If they do, then maybe it's an energy problem, not a health problem. After all, EVERYTHING IS ENERGY. Makes sense to me...
I have had these strange body electrocutions as well. It usually starts in lower stomach area and radiates to my brain, and arms, or it may start in my legs somewhere and move down to my feet. MY thoughts have been that it is some type of virus since in travels in the nerves. I am becoming convinced as I read your comments that it is the result of being on anti-Ds. I went off anti-D's about three years ago fairly abruptly. I was taking Zoloft, and for a few years prior to that, I took Prozac. I started having migraines after I stopped taking meds. But I had never experienced any of these problems prior to anti-Ds. I would also consider Electro sensitivity as the problem, which someone posted recently. I would like to propose that whatever this issue is, it is a recent phenomenon, occurring within the last ten years, within most of us. What has changed about our world? We know that no other generation has been so dependent on anti-Ds as ours. We also know that cell-phone use has increased, I never go anywhere without my phone on me. The electromagnetic field has never been so charged with electronic signals. That’s my layperson understanding. There are answers to this enigma. And there are solutions. I plan on doing a fast to try and clear my system of these anti-D's. I've just got to find the right fast. And the second course of action I will take is to not carry my cell phone on my body and keep it as far away as I can from me for a while and see if that helps. I am going to power down my computer unless I am using it, and use it as little as possible. And i am going to pray to Jesus for discernment for what to do. One more comment. I have found that if I resist these attacks and so "no" and not give into them with fear, they subside a lot quicker. I have at times been able to stop them at their inception of attack.
I would like to help you as much as possible. I note your last comment which was that you are able to stop these "attacks" with a "no" if it is electrosensitivity what you will find is that the body has a saturation level and if that is reached in one "hit" so to speak, your body sensors will switch off. I have a lot of research about depression connection to pulsed microwave radiation and I agree with you, perhaps 10 years, or perhaps most notably in the last 5 years - so many people with depression, so many young people and children - 20,000 children being medicated for psycho-type illnesses. The latest study was from the Yale University which found electric magnetic radiation affects behaviour and moods. The Science is all there but unfortunately the Government ruled by the Corporations is too greedy for money and hides behind strategic words to get out of admitting the Science. I really do believe that people are waking up to this and I hope for you - you will beable to cut down on your exposure. I have a small Raytac detector - 5 pounds from Aldi, 15 on the Internet - it will tell you if you are sitting/sleeping in a WIFI hotspot. It has a series of lights - red - no WIFI green 1-4. You may feel agitated in a particular area and not realise why, once you begin to use your sensors more - through awareness you will be able to notice the changes within your own resonance which can be verified by the detector. Now you may or may not want your sensors to be finely tuned. If this is the case, don't make yourself aware. the problem is you may be sitting in a hot spot. It's between a rock and a hard place. Personally for me, my sensors are my warning system - if they start tingling - I'm in a high electric magnetic radiation area. So I move, and I'm ok again. We are hoping that very soon - legislation will go through as we have unequivocable Scientific evidence and evidence of Swiss telecom company applying for a patent to remove electrosmog and details the danger for human life. So hang on in there. There are sites such as Electrosensitivity UK, WiredChild, PowerWatch which can give you info. Of course if you need advise I can try to help. Take Care x
Hello every one I get that electric shock during night after I have been working out a lot. It feels like my entire body shakes in addition, I feel dry inside my nose...you can e-mail me at (***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed ** Please read our Terms of Use ) if you know the reason. I test my blood for vitamin B, D, and some other, but did not find ground.
Are you working out in a gym with lots of electrical equipment?
The feeling of electric shocks is one of the worst when coming off of Effexor. The sad part is most doctors do not tell you what to expect or what the side wffects or withdrawls are. Then suddenly a day or two after you stopped the medicine your getting these unbelieveable shocks through your body and the last thing you think of is the medication that is suppose to be helping you. I hope everything went OK with your medication change and you are doing better. Sincerely, Jeff 1st
I get the same feeling - shocks through the body and brain -- when I have a fever. I've been prone to this since I was a kid. No meds or anything like that. Just fevers. I thought it was normal until my husband told me he had no idea what I was talking about.
I've spent the last two hours reading everyones questions and answers about this awful shocking, trying to find an answer that I havent already tried.Alot of us have had the exact same "non diagnosis". I've had a couple of Drs. who heard of the same symtoms or atleast believed me when I told them what was going on and what all I've tried. Out of complete accident I found something that stops it for me. I was going to the Dentist getting teeth pulled in prep for dentures. He gave me vicodin for the pain. After taking it the shocks stopped. At first I thought it was just a coincidence or possibley I was just "stoned" from the narcotic.lol. But after the shocking returned, back to the Dentist, back on the narcotics... your see my point. Dentures are in , no need to take the narcotics. The shocking IS BACK ! Now thank God and my sanity it is not everyday all day(sometimes just all day). I can't and WON'T take painpills constantly. Although the relief from them was the best feeling. So now I'm back to is there anything I can do to make them stop? I can't imagine a Doc. prescribing narcoctics for this. Can ANYONE HELP ?????
I was told Neurontin helped with these, see if that helps.
