I am 45, i have endo, the tilted womb, abnormal hormone levels as well. I had a surgery for endo 14 years ago, which has held me pretty well until lately. I had been having heavy periods with heavy clotting resulting in anemia. I spoke with my OB and he recommended the ablation surgery for the heavy periods. He did not do my original endo surgery, but did do the ablation surgery. If my symptoms match yours to this point, DO NOT HAVE THE ABLATION SURGERY!!!!!! Since the ablation surgery, i have had SEVERE endo related cramping during my monthly cycle. No period, but cramping so bad that i am bed ridden for 3 days. Sincerely, my bad. I have a brain in my head and can do research. I just went on my docs recommendation. He sent me home with brochures that i tossed to the side for later reading. One brochure clearly stated that you should not have the surgery if you are pregnant, past menopause or have endometrial disorders. I had to do a double take when i read that. How did i miss this!? Would truly trade my 10 day periods to get rid of the three days a month in bed!
I had stage 4 endo. I have never had any polyps, cysts or anything else. Just very long, heavy periods. When I had a c-section when I was 29, the doctor told me about the endo. Since then I had 2 more vgainal deliveries, with me periods only getting worse. Finally, at age 36, I had the ablation. I still have some cramps when I have my one day of having a period, but they are nowhere near as bad as they were. Plus, my period only lasts a mere day now. Personally, I would much rather have an ablation than get Lupron injections or take things that effect my hormones. I used the NovaSure method. If you have insurance, I would 100% recommend giving this a shot. I was in and out of the hospital and recovery time was minimal.
look up Endometriosis: absence of recurrence in patients after endometrial ablation by Bulletti 2001, in the Journal of Human Reproduction. It seems that indeed some women do benefit and I will be having it done to attempt to avoid the hysterectomy. Good Luck.
I always had trouble with my periods since I was 12 now im 28 almost 29. I'd have vomiting, & diarrhea @ times. I always had terrible severe cramps/abdominal pain/slight back pain. I never went to a gyno until I was 19. My parents & I never knew why I was always hunched over in severe pain they always chalked it up to bad pds. When I found out about endo I asked the drs/nurses. They always blew me off saying I was fine & just had bad cramps. They said bc pills would help my pain along with midol or tylenol which never helped. I tried about 7-10 dif kinds of pills. I did the patch, nuvaring depot, nexplanon you name it. The only thing that helped was depot, when I stopped getting periods but I gained weight like crazy. The nuvaring gave me yeast infections when they told me to put them in back to back so I didnt have pd every mo. Yeast infections stopped when I stopped using it. Nexplanon gave me bv which is a side effect of it I never had it until I used nexplanon, it went away when I stopped using it. The drs lied & said id only gain 5 lbs a yr with good diet & exercize on depot. I exercized 4 days a wk ate well. I went from 135 lbs to 173 lbs in less than 7 mo & hight was close to 5'9. Finally my parents made me see my friends dad an obgyn who knows my history but never treated me til 2012 suggested nexplanon after 2 yrs on it pd came bk. Then suggested I take lupron shots & that maybe I had endo. I did 2 rounds of shots that lasted 6 mo. 3 mo I was pain free the other 3 I was not. He suggested someday doing a laperoscopy which is the only way drs can tell if you have endo. He refered me to a fertility specialist who said I prob. Had endo & suggested I do laperoscopy after my husband and I try to have a baby first bc of certain dangers with procedure. I went to get a 2nd opinion at another office they told me the same thing & that laps can screw up something in your body that causes you to not be able to get preg. Another dr. said well if you do have it get pregnant your pain will finally go away. You'll be pain free. My husband & I wanted a baby but we didnt want that to be the main reason to have one & we werent financially stable then. Dr never suggested lap to diagnose me. After years of getting the run around, seeing about 7 or so drs/nurses & being sick I started getting depressed & gave up. I figured no one cares my lifes hell I just have to deal with it. It didnt help either that while I knew my parents were always concerned & worried about my health that they didnt believe that I could have Endo etc. 2 mo ago my back pain was so severe more than normal & pd pain same I just cried out I want this thing ripped out of me enough is enough. I called my dad who finally said that basically I need to demand to speak to my friends dad & have him send me to another specialist. He ok'd it & referred me to penn state hershey medical center in hershey pa. I saw the migs drs. It stands for minimally invasive gynocologic surgery. I saw a dr. Timmothy deimling. He & his staff were wonderful. The only dr. Ive ever seen in my life who actually listened to my story. He never cut me off or made me feel uncomfortable. He spoke to me for 2 hrs & said it sounds like endo. He layed out all my options & said he wasnt trying to talk me in or out of anything & I could take my time as much as I needed to mull it over. He said im always going to be here wether its 3 mo from now nxt yr u decide or today im not going anywhere heres my card. Which is great bc I could tell he cared. He explained endo that its a disease thats not curable. Not a lot of reg obgyns know much about it or really treat it since the specialists do more with it. so it really sucks he said bc they see a lot of patients who've been suffering for yrs no one does anything about it & they finally come to us later in there lives in late 20's early 30's. He said its ok now hes glad that im finally here & they can finally help me & that hes sorry it took so long for me to find them & that I suffered for so long. He said no matter what the treatment is the endo can come back even with lap. He said were only human we do do the best we can & remove what we see but there are times where they could possibly miss endo thats hard to find or see & it can grow bk @ some point or be in other pts of body. But they have dif things they can do to keep pain @ bay for as long as they can. I found out the reason lupron didnt work for me for long was bc dr never gave me ad back therapy. Dr deimling said he figured they didnt do that bc their supposed to with lupron. He also said its not true that lap can mess up your body if you havent had kids yet. If anything he said it increases your chances of preg. He said like any surgery their are going to be risks but its safer minimally invasive then the way it used to be done. If I got a lap done I should be pain free for 6 mo. He asked if we were having kids I said we were guna try before the end of this yr. He said hormone therapy wouldnt be for me right now but we could revisit that later down the rd or try lupron again someday. He said what many women like to do is have their babys & when their done using their uterus for what god intended it for they usually will get a hysterectomy not all woman but there are a lot that go that route. He said if I were you bc of the prob. Im having etc. That would be what he suggests. It would all be done minimally invasive. That day I decided to get a lap & they would also flush my tubes. We sch a follow up apt to fill out surgery papers a wk before. I finally got surgery 2 days ago in hershey & I was right all along. I have endo & it only took me 17 years to finally get diagnosed with the right dr. It was an outpatient procedure & I went home 9 hrs later. I had no pain pre or post surgery. He sent me home with pics of my insides & what it looks like & where the endo was. I thought that was cool. He said they flushed 1 of my tubes but the other was blocked they couldnt get it if i remember correctly but he said that wont affect getting preg. It only took 1 hr for surgery and 3 small incisions one in belly button & 1 on each side of my hip. He said we can try after I get my nxt period to have a baby & i cant wait. I also cant wait to get a MI hysterectomy. It may not be for everyone but I feel its right for me after I have a baby. I highly recommend the wonderful staff @ penn state hershey medical center. Especially dr. Deimling, the anesthesiologist dmitri & his assistant sean. And all the nurses that helped me. The staff couldnt have been more caring, nice, & funny making it an easy process from beginning to end. It made me feel relaxed & in great hands to know how professional they were & how they cared about me & my health. They went above & beyond. To all woman who think they may have any kind of gyno prob I urge you to never give up hope. Get that 10th opinion if you think in your gut your right about your condition or disease you might have & no one listens. Learn from my mistakes when I gave up. If you dont think your dr knows his stuff etc. Keep pushing your drs to see a specialist if thats what it takes. Please dont wait 17 years like I did & listen to the wrong drs. Stick to your gut we know our own bodies more than others think.
Omg, this is like reading my own life story. I see that you had your hysterectomy in 2007. Has that worked for you. I'm afraid to gave one cus of premature aging and brittle bones. I'm 41 now. Your reply is certainly much appreciated
It's great that the Lupron shot worked for you, it was a nightmare and the worst three months of my life. I couldn't move, it felt like my bones were made of paper. And four months since its run its course through my system, it left me with fibromyalgia. I don't recommend a chemical menopause to ANYONE. It's just not natural.
