I had an endometrial ablation, (NovaSure) in July, 2007. I had quite a bit of discomfort and pain for the remainder of the day of the procedure. But by the next day, I felt much better, and in three days, I was completely recovered. Before the procedure, I had heavy and long periods lasting 7-8 days and then reappearing a week later. I was also passing clots that I thought were internal organs! However, since the ablation, I have not even spotted. In the first 6 months after the procedure, I did not even know when my cycle was. Now, I have noticed in the last 2 or 3 months, that I get cramps as though I'm about to start my period, but have yet to do so. Other than the recent cramps, I am thoroughly pleased with my procedure!
I too had a failed ablation (9/2008) but it was the attempt that failed. I tried the Thermacare ablation which uses the heated water in the balloon inside the uterus. According to dr my uterine cavity was distorted in size because of my fibroid so the balloon wouldn't hold pressure. So like everyone else who had a failed ablation, I too came home from the day surgery very frustrated that the dr had not eliminated me as a candidate for this procedure before I spent the money. I thought I had done my research and asked several times over and over was I a good candidate for this which the dr assured me I was. How maddening.
I had mine done 9-2-07 and my bleeding has been less since then. I still have my peroid but they are not 28 days apart they are varied. 5 months later I still have my peroid. Hoping it will eventually stop.
MY hospital alone charged 28,000 dollars! I've had pain ever since the surgery!
I had a D&C followed immediately by the ablation. Went home right after. No cramping with little bitty discharge. I was 42 years old at the time with heavy painful periods that lasted two weeks and would start again around two weeks later. The frustration, pain, cost, and more effected my quality of life. I was miserable. It has been over 18 months since I had the procedures done. I have not had a single period , not even a spot since. No cramps either. It was the best thing I ever did. Thank God my new OB/GNY told me about it. Now I tell everyone!!! I had the novasure I believe is the name. If you google it the procedure is exactly what I had. So unless there is another name brand ..thats the one.
I had an ablation and laporascopy to deal with "cyst" but turned out I had endo everywhere. So far five weeks and still dealing with yellow discharge, some bleeding and pain from cramping that used to only happen during my pms or period and is now happening daily! I don't know for sure, but I believe I will be going in July for a full hysterectomy!
I have had the ablation also still heavy flows....The other day, I had sex with my Husband and now I am in really bad pain it has been a month since the surgery...has anyone else had this problem
I had an ablation completed on May 28,2009 and three weeks later I had a period with the heavy bleeding and severe cramps like i always had in the past. Went to see my gyn and he indicated that my uterine lining was very thick and I may have adenomyosis since I have endometriosis. He indicated that a hysterectomy is my next step. I am very disapointed because my doctor was aware of my uterine lining being thick before i had an ablation and he didn't tell me that it may not work. Now I have to have a hysterectomy and be laid up for weeks for that surgery. Also, he indicated the the ablation procedure does not get rid of cramps just the bleeding. What??? the heck why didn't he tell me that before.
I had the hydrotherme ablation in May. I went in thinking it would reduce my periods. My doctor misled me saying it would be gone completely. Now 3 cycles since the procedure, and I see little or NO change in my periods. My doctor also told me I would feel mild labor pains during the procedure. I felt little or no pain. I don't think the machine was working. I paid a ton of money, and spent several hours going to the doctor for pre-proceedure and post-proceedure visits, and have little or no result to show for my money or my time. I called my doctor last week to complain, and he has yet to return my call.
I also had the same procedure done in May of 06 and man I have had nothing but cramps and bloating none stop now for almost a month, not alot of periods per say but the cramps are just like I am having one, it sucks I am 48 years old and the only thing that really kept me sane was the birth control pill but I was told to get off of them because of heart attack rates not so sure? Going in for an ultrasound tomorrow sure hope he has some answers because like most of you I feel your frustration... %-)
I'm wondering what type of endometrial ablation procedures were performed for you ladies that have had very poor experiences. I've recently spoken with my GYN about doing the Novasure procedure which uses electricity. It seems the only type of ablation that is fairly successful even with mild fibroids (which I'll find out if I have after an ultrasound). Thanks!
I was in a very bad marriage where I was depress and made my period constant, it came to a point where I had them everyday of the year, they tried to do a D&C on me twice but each time it didn't work. It came to a point where I ask them to remove my uterus, they said I was too young at that time and it would make my bones brittle. So they decided to try ablation, where they insert a baloon and put hot water in it to burn the lining. That helped and since that day I have not seen blood at all.
That was 7 years ago. Now I wish I never had it as I am happily married to my second husband and wish for a child of our own. I have tried to look through the internet to healthy pregnancys after ablation, but this doctor who did the ablation 7 years ago stated she did it as i agree to never have children. Is it soo wrong to have change of heart, after all I was with a abusive man whom I thought was impossible to get away from. I am from Canada and would really appreciate if anyone know of a gyne that would help me or who is willing to do a reversal on tubes tight and give me more information on all . I am 36 years of age and otherwise healthy.

I'm scheduled for a NovaSure procedure next week... everyone I have talked to that had it done swears by it.. I went to my regular OB/GYN of 20 years, then spoke to a girlfriend who works in an OB/GYN office about 8 hours away from me, and then got a second opinion from another local dr. My out of pocket expense for the procedure is about $2,300. this does not include about $60 (my cost) in meds - some Ativan, vicodin and antibiotics.. I start taking antibiotics 2 days before the procedure, a vicodin an hour before, brining another one with me to dr. office . I opted to do this as an out patient rather than at our local hospital to reduce anethesia risks.. The biopsy was like a bad pap smear... a bit more pressure than a normal PAP, but not bad. I am a bit freaked out on the "pain" factor and hope it does not hurt. About the strongest medicine i've ever taken was caugh syrup w/codine.. so taking the vicodin and other "cockail" of meds is freaking me out a bit.. and not sure what to expect afterwords as far as bleeding etc. How many boxes of pads should I have on hand? I've got about a dozen or so pads - 1/2 a box.. is that enought or should I stockpile??
Hi.. I had my ablasion surgery done about three years ago.. I have had complete success with it. There have been a few times that I may have discharge, but never periods. I find that when i lift heavy things or I am really stressed out, that's when i will start to bleed slightly. I do still have menstrual cramps but they are no where near the agony that I used to. I would highly recommend to anyone to get this done.
I had an endometrial ablation 3 years ago and had not had any problems until last month at the normal time I would have a period. Both last month and this month I am experiencing horrific cramps, the worst of my life. Ibuprofen and naproxen don't touch the pain and I don't want to go back to the prescription pain meds I had to take for my cramps before the ablation. I am home from work today with a hot pack on my belly. All I can do is roll up in a ball and cry. The cramps are so painful that I double over if I try to walk.
