my father aged 96 is having a huge problem with mucous and because he has had his oesophagus stretched 5 times he too is not able to have solid foods, he has just gone into a nursing home and he keeps asking for semolina custard and chocolate, I am interested in what you are saying about the almond milk and about the broth because we need to find something tasty to divert his mind from the sweet dairy stuff he is wanting, its hard to make him understand what is good for him as his mind isn't so clear now...he does have the spray and also mucodine capsules..

My 89 year mom has experienced the same, I cut out all dairy, I mean ALL dairy in her diet, lemon water in the morning. Lean organic meats, vegetables and pure aloe vera juice mixed with a tiny bit of pure organic grape juice, I've seen a significant improvement.
Hi,
They prescribed a suction machine but it is so big and so difficult to use. Do you know the one s your grandmother uses? We need something simple and not complicated. Thanks
Get your mom a suction machine. Medicare will pay for it if ordered by the doctor. My mother has the same problem.
My elderly mom and 2 aunts have started to develop this terrible mucous from the time they became dependant and immobilised:
I found the most satisfying explanation in a French study: the common denominator is their immobility, especially after some time in hospital ...and remedies exist (not medication)

About the French study: I forgot to say that the breathing/blowing exercises are for mentally aware patients, whereas patients with dementia need to be treated by 'passive' aspiration (very delicate and risky, should be done by doctor or nurse.)
I have been taking care of my dad who is 87 years old. I realized he produces excessive mucus exactly at the begging of spring time. I think the change of season triggers this. Please let me know if you all experience the same issue right at the beginning of spring????
I give my dad native remedies mucus clear and it works amazing. He is 87 years old with demintia and Alzheimer’s and he is bed bound. I highly recommend to try this and see if it works for your loved ones.
what is the spray, you did not say
My dad who is 89 yrs old has late stage dementia and about a month ago he started having trouble swallowing his puree food. The food starts to get into his lung and he starts to chicken frequently. He ultimately had aspiration pneumonia, which is lung infection due to aspiring food in lungs. We rushed him to the emergency department and he was admitted and treated with antibiotics. His health deteriorated due to malnutrition and he suffered also excessive phlegm which he could not spit out. We use suction machine multiple times a day..We actually bought one to be kept at home. We ended up fixing a PEG tube to his stomach to receive high protein liquid food directly through a tube. His health started to improve; his infection treated; and the suction tube makes him comfortable and eases his breathing. Such a cases needs continued nursing care. We have a good setting at home. We have a nurse who visits daiky; we are also got trained to help in changing his position regularly to avoid worsening his bed sore. Our old loved ones require our attentiin; love; and care much more than we can imagine. They earn this loving care.
Thank you for your info. I am 86 and having a similar problem. Could not find answers as good as this anywhere else.
