Just adrenal gland kicking in. Spike in blood sugar to very low blood sugar few hours later. Yes probably less likely to happen if you drink a few at lunch time as you will likely be eating later in day. Not so when sleeping. Try slow release carbs or if you always wake a certain time set alarm 30 mins before and have a sugar boost!

I have the exact same thing ! And have spent lots of money at doctor office trying to figure this out!! My dr. Wants me to try. Beta blocker.... any suggestions?

I've had my thyroid tested and with in normal range.

This even happens after one drink .... and I don't drink often.

To the Guest above me, I tried the beta blocker route, while it did work I freaked out because my heart rate would go really low.

I gained some weight and was just a tad more tired every day. I decided to go off of them, but if you decide to go off, do know that you need to ween off or your anxiety will go off the chain.

Im feeling better to see that this is happening to other people even though i wish we all wouldnt have this problem but i thought it was just me considering everyone i know drinks and never complains about a racing heart. I was told years ago and im 24 now that i had tachycardia which is a high heart rate. My heart rate has been alot better but i have anxiety so im sure that played a role. I do not smoke weed i tryed n i had too many bad experiences with a fast heart rate feeling. N i just want to be able to drink occasionally but i always back out because ive felt bad trying to lay down with a fast heart rate n i think it depends on what i drink i know liqour was worse but alcohol period still made me feel like i didnt want to drink again. I felt pretty ok with wine. I also get chest pains still havent figured out why. It might be because my sternum comes out more the dr once said that could be y. I hope everyones health stays good im glad i came on this site.

I also at 53 have been experiencing same exact symptoms even after just one glass of wine or any kind of alcohol. I fall asleep for a few hours and like clockwork wake up with a rapid heart beat. It's totally scarey usually calms down within a few minutes. I talked to my doctor did stress test ekg the whole work up and he said heart is fine.
He gave me a small dose of Ativan .0.05 which I take before bed on nights I drink and that seems to do the trick

What a great report. I found it informative and very well written. Thank you I'm sure you have helped others as well as myself understand this phenomenon better.

Look into allergies... associated with low thyroid. Wheat, dairy, egg and soy specifically.

Man if you figure anything out let me know... i am 3 years your elder but your write up pretty much says exactly what I have been experiencing. I have done the EKG, stress test etc with same results. I also think its a stomach issue or maybe anxiety (even though i don't think i am all that anxious).

My pounding heart and high pulse after drinking have been bothering me for over a year now. We always want to know why! If this doesn't happen to everyone on the planet then why us (me). I am hypothyroid so maybe there is a connection maybe my synthroid dose is too low. In any case it has been bothering me enough that I have decided to just abstain. I seem to remember that the last time I stopped drinking (for 6 months) I didn't have the pounding heart, palpitations, and shortness of breath.
