I've had 3 occurances of this in the past week- always in the same spot (under my left breast/rib cage). I have had gas and diareah a bit as well. The fluttering seems to high to be my stomach. :$

It's nice to know that other people are feeling this too, I'm 25 and have the weird on and off crawly feeling under my right ribs for the past few days. I'm pretty active, but I mostly feel it when I'm sloutching. I've also been under a lot of stress lately. A stress center website listed that muscle twitches under the ribs can be caused by anxiety (they also listed every other symptom under the rainbow though). Jeez..it was freaking my out so much, I actually googled 'lung parasites'! I'm glad it's just stress=)

I have had this same feeling under my left ribcage (and sometimes on right),for several months, mostly when lying down . I also found out at around the same time that i have minor mitral valve reflux. (i'm 40). A 24hr heart monitor didn't find any heart abnormalities and my heart dr. says nothing to worry about....but i can't stop thinking can it be the reflux that i'm feeling? Has anyone else with these symptoms had their hearts checked? Thanks.

I have just been experiencing the same sensation, on and off over the last few hours. Always amazes me how a quick google search takes you to a forum discussing exact same problem! I have been very inactive for a while now, and have experienced spasms (not painful) in other areas, arms are most common. Think the inactivity is most probable cause after reading other posts.....

I had this rippling just under the right side of my ribcage with the occasional severe spasm. I have been going to the gym three times a week for over twenty years, so it wasn't through lack of exercise. A few months ago, I suddenly got a very sharp pain under the left side of my ribcage which continued every fifteen minutes for about nine hours and then continued with slightly less pain, every five minutes for three days.

I ended up having blood tests and an abdominal scan including my gall bladder, but nothing was found. I live with the anxiety that it will happen again since no cause was found and it was the worst three days of my life. As it diminished, I could feel the muscle slowly tightening, going into spasm and then realxing. A nightmare.

At the time, I was doing a lot of stomach exercises - 3 sets of 100 partial situps and 3 sets of 25 hanging crunches. That may sound a lot to people who don't exercise but I had buily up to that level over several years and so it was both natural and easy for me.

I am a 14 year old girl and my 50 year old mother is having the same problems. She has had fluttering under her rib cage and it has resolved in in loss of breathe, she thinks that it feels like a kicking baby (SHE IS NOT PREGNANT!) i am relieved to know that many other woman have had the same problem which shows that it is a common. Does any one know what is it and how it can be resolved?

I am another, seeking information on why i'm having this pretty consistant, but indeed, irregular, "baby kicking" like sensation on my left side, just beneath my rib cage... sounds like no one knows for sure. But sounds common and muscle related. Guess i won't worry then! Thanks, good information.

20 yr old male, I am feeling a fluttering sensation too sometimes it feels like it is right on the surface of my ribs and if I push down on my nipple I can almost "scratch" it other times it feels like it is deeper in but I always feel it on my left side, unlike everyone else I didn't change physical activity when this fluttering feeling started.

yes, I've got a twitch on my left side under the rib cage.  I was thinking muscle spasm too  - it's a relief that many others agree with me.

if it's muscle spasms how can I get relief?

I have had the same symptom - with no pain - for the past four or five weeks. I remember having had that same problem, many years ago. It went and now it is back. I will wait a few more weeks before a see a doctor.
Thanks for sharing your health experiences with the large public.

hi, I'm having fluttering/itching in my chest too as some people have described, and sometimes my chest muscles on my left side start to spasm. it never hurts, but it is very annoying. went to the doc and she had no idea what it could be. she listened to my heart and lungs and couldn't hear anything unusual, so she didn't want to schedule other tests (I don't have insurance so those tests would've been expensive). the doc said it might be inflammation and to try aspirin, but aspirin hasn't helped. if anyone has any idea what this could be, please post!
