I am a healthy 17 year old male currently residing in New York. Two weeks ago, I noticed a small pimple on the lower part of the shaft of my penis. As there was a hair follicle growing directly out of it and it not display any characteristics of std-related lesions, I assumed that it was simply a mild case of folliculitis. It gradually shrunk and finally went away a few days, but left a very small patch of skin slightly red. For two or three days after it went away, I had slight irritation while urinating. Now that is gone, but it has been replaced by a slight feeling of numb-ness on the underside of my penis, especially at the base (on the other side though, not the same side as the pimple). While not particularly uncomfortable on its own, I experience an unpleasant intensification of this after masturbating. A few days before this pimple emerged I received unprotected oral sex for the first time from my girlfriend, who had had a cold sore on her lip a few days prior. I have read that unprotected oral sex can lead to the transmission of HSV-1 (which infects the majority of the population as far as I know) to the genitals. How likely is this in my case? I have not experienced any other textbook herpes symptoms, no discharge/pain etc, but I am still worried. I will most likely end up scheduling an appointment with my doctor if this does go away, but in the meantime should I refrain from any sexual activity with my girlfriend?
I suppose that would be for the best, just to be on the safe side especially if she has some visible symptoms. HSV is transmitted only during outbreaks.
Many initial herpes outbreaks don't include blisters, they may just hurt. If blisters do appear, they are filled with either clear liquid or blood and after a few days they ooze the liquid and then scab. There's usually itching and pain in the area.
Your bump could be just a hair follicle or an inflamed sebaceous cyst but it would be best if you refrained from sexual activities until every thing's cleared.

I visited my doctor today, who told me that it was probably not HSV and nothing to worry about, folliculitis maybe. Thanks, though.
I had a similar case, but mine started with just one pimple or irritation which i dismissed as an ingrown hair. Over the next few months I noticed more appeared. I finally went to my doctor and unfortunately informed that I had contracted HPV. If it's just the one, you probably have nothing to worry about. If you have more then I recommend having only protected sex to avoid spreading it to your partner.
i am currently experiencing exactly what you talk about.. i was hooking up with this girl on a nightly basis for a few weeks and a condom broke one time and we didnt notice cuz we were drunk.. but anyways a few days after i had a couple bumps around the base of my shaft which i attributed to being infected hair folicles as i had shaved prior to intercourse.. they eventually scabbed over due to i think picking and pouring hydrogen peroxide on them (dont put hydrogen peroxide on your penis! the skin is very sensitive down there lol) anyways they since healed after some antibiotics helped which leads me further to believe it was bacterial infection since we found out she had bacterial vaginosis days later.. but they did leave some red marks for 3 days after they healed.. now after intercourse/masturbation/ejaculation i have an intensified feeling during ejaculation and then it feels like there is something at the base of my penis blocking the urethra or just caught in there or something.. kinda a tingling or burning... and if i pee afterwards it definately burns a little.. i went through the run of std tests and came back negative on all accounts except i havent taken a herpes test.. the girl that i was hooking up with got a blood test done and of course like 6 out of 10.. she has hsv1... so its possible i got hsv1 down there from her when she was giving me head... but the symptoms and how they responded to different things and how they progressed point to foliculitis from a bacterial infection more so than hsv.. i also had swollen lymph glands in my thigh on one side which i've been told by two doctors that is a more common symptom in foliculitis than in herpes... so im hoping and when i have the money to get tested at the beginning of the month i will and pray the results are good. but yeah same exact scenario as you....
From the symptoms you describe, it is unlikely that you have herpes, but seeing a doctor is the only way to be sure. If there is any chance you might have an STD, you should abstain from sex until you are cleared in order to avoid passing anything on to a partner. On the other hand, you may just have a pimple or infected follicle, which should clear up on its own fairly quickly. You can speed healing and improve the condition of your penis skin by applying a penis health formula (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil) on a daily basis to keep the skin well-nourished and moisturized.
Herpes symptoms usually include open sores or blisters, rather than pimples - chances are that you just have some irritation, or an actual pimple or folliculitis. Try using a penis health creme with Shea butter, which has intensive healing properties, and in the meantime, avoid sex until you can see a doctor and get a good diagnosis.
