My fordyce is very noticeable given that my lips are of darker pigment and the patch is very bright white. "Lightening" them with Blistex would seem to make it even worse? I need to 'darken' the patch. I've tried to use woman's lip liner, magic marker, cutting myself, scratching the skin off until I bleed - and nothing helps. I've wondered if a cold sore would help break the skin and I could pick the glands out with a needle.

ive tried everything to get rid of my fordyce spots on lips. i had it for probably 15 yrs now. i've had many lazor sessions. got rid of spots for few weeks. but always came back. stopped going cause was waste of time and money. used needles to pop them but same results.they came back. now. i use lip protection all the time now.. its surely cured my chapped lips. i mean my lips where always dry. i couldn't even laugh or smile without my lips from cracking and peeling. and i was afraid that using like chopstick or whatever would make my fordyce worst. i wonder if anyone thought like me. :-D i just went for it and been putting blister at night and cherry chopstick in the morning. and my lips have gotten very healthy. not bleeding or chapping anymore. :-D but the fordyce spots are still there. it seem that its got slightly lighter. i don't really care. im just happy i can smile now..no chapped lips. i've been using it for 4 months now. hope i helped someone.

i'm 15 and got the same thing, they are inside my lip a the bottom and at the top.
I just wanted to ask the person who posted on 02/19/09 - 22:49 how he ended up with such dry lips. The reason I am asking is because my lips are extremely dry and the cause was my accutane treatment for acne. I tried to resolve this by using blistex but my lips peel numerous times during a day. I got sick of this and I now use an avene lip balm which doesn't moistens the lips much and make them feel dry but at least I dont have dead skin peeling every couple of hours. Interestingly though ever since I stopped using blistex, fordyce pimples have multiplied. However, this is the least of my problems, given that my lips still peel
your looking for me. when i first noticed that i had fordyce spots..my lips always look healthy and never chapped.. after years with fordyce i noticed my lips getting very dry and looking messy looking all the time..i used chapstick trying to fix it...but always thought using lip meds would make my fordyce worst..so i would just use chapstick for few days..and not really see my lips get well from dryness..anyways..i got fed up with stressing out on fordyce spots..and concentrated on my dry lips..so everday i would use cherry chapstick every night.. make sure to put alot... in the morning..i would take a shower and wash my lips really good and notice dead skin fall off..and put a very light coat of chap.. as the day wore on..i would wash my lips with water and put a light coat of chapstick. on my breaks and after eatting..anyways...now i don't use lip meds in the moring..only when after i eat dinner..i put a lot of chapstick..then when im about to sleep..i put blistex med..just because someone said it worked..getting rid of fordyce..haha...but..anyways..its been 5 monhs and i dont worry about the fordyce spots...when your lips look healthy..people well not notice your spots...i almost forgot..i always use cherry chapstick... i like using it cause its red its just me... im always going to use chapstick from now on...

good for you john..fordyce spots are not noticable...just keep your lips healthy by using some lip product..it doesn't have to be blistex.. i use it everyday now..its better then having chapped lips..
Well, the fact is they ARE noticeable.

As I've said before, I have a patch that is about 1/2 inch across and 1/2 inch tall - dead center of my bottom lip. It looks like a pencil eraser sized white spot on my bottom lip.

Oftem people say 'oh you have a piece of food on your lip' and i say "no it's a scar" or a "skin condition"

Today, in fact, no less than 5 co workers who talked to me either held a finger over their lower lip, put a file over the lower lip, played with their lower lip, or chewed their lower lip while they talked to me.

So don't say that 'no one notices' or 'no one cares'

They do.

Yeah I'd love to 'not care'

But it's pushing me to suicide.
Hello guys, I have the same problem for at least 7 years. It has been bothering me very much...I work with people, meet new people every day...and big white thing on my upper lip makes me angry. When I saw this forum, I decided to contribute and express my experience.
I have tried 2 methods how to get rid of fordyce spots on lips.
First method was chemical peeling - using TCA - acid. Didnt work for me, spots appeared back in 4 weeks.
Second method was laser treatment. I went to the laser center few weeks ago, and doc tried to burn few bumps by using CO2 laser. This part of lip, where laser was applied, healed in 6 days. Now its 4 weeks and spots have not appeared. This was just testing, so I have new appointment in 2 weeks and I hope it will work...
Hi, I'm new to this site. I've read your posts and feel for you more than any other. I have been dealing with fordyce spots for years now. I've isolated myself from relationships and won't even share drinks, smokes, or anything else that would have anyone come in contact of any way with my "condition" Quite honestily, this is the first time I've mentioned any of this to anyone due to embarrassment. I have found one way to successfully (so far 3months) remove them. However there is scarring. This may be to the fact that I picked at it before it was healed much like if I was to pick at a scab over and over. Anyway, the method I used was a product called wart andmole vanish. Its used to remove stubborn warts moles and skin tags. I'm not paid to promote it (although I would). It is expensive and you barley get a drop of it but I feel it will improve the quality of your life if you can live with a not so noticable scar whch will more than likely fade with time. If Fordyces are sebaceous glands like pimples, think of this, have you ever gotten a pimple on scar tissure? I suggest taking a week off from work. Maybe mentioning that you're going in for surgery to remove the growth on your lip that your Doctor suspects may be cancer and take it from there. I know this condition can be depressing. Trust me, I know. But don't let it control you and don't let it push you to the ultimate decision. Please give it a try. After all we have nothing to lose. I truely hope this helps you. Take care.
thats just crazy.. using a wart remover on your lips to treat fordyce spots..i would not recommend..thats just stupid..ive had fordyce spots for over 15 years and no one as ever said anything about it..it is not that noticeable..just keep it healthy looking by using lip meds on a daily basis...and you'll be alright..from my experience...the best way to get rid of it is my co2 laser treatment.. it takes about a week for lips to heal..and it looks like the spots disappeared..but my spots aways came back after around 2 months..but i did notice that less came back..so i would go again..now..i had spots on both corners of my lips and center of my upper lip..i know that one corner..the fordyce spots almost all spots vanished.. i can say that it does work to a degree...it cost me 100 dollars a session..and i went 5 or 6 times..i stopped going because just got sick and tired of spending money and worrying about the spots..so right now i still have the spots..i don't care...my girlfriend don't care...life is to short to worry about something this petty..as i stated..its not that noticeable..my girlfriend says the same..just keep it healthy. 1 dollar chaptstick well last you 2 months..or use whatever..
There are a lot of variety of Blistex products out there. Can some one please specify which ones have worked for them and which one should i go for?
Thanks
Hi guys,

I found this thread after a lot of searches. This Blistex thing seems interesting. I bought this thing yesterday: blistex.com/Lip%20Medex.htm

This is the one, right?
I am 32 and I have lot of these dots on my lips, mostly on the upper lip.
But then I got unsure if these are really Fordyce's Spots in the first place.
From the (short) Wikipedia article, it seems as if it's only Fordyce's Spots if they are bumps as well ?
My white dots are not. They are all "in" the lip. Some of the clusters are arranged just between my Philtrum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philtrum) and my lip, which all in all makes them appear much more visible then they would have been otherwise.

I've found it hard to find much accurate information on this subject. Can anyone help me?
Thanks.
And good luck to everyone lese too! :-D
An excellent forum, great to find. I have been trying Neutrogena Norwegian Formula as a lip balm. I have them on the under of my top lip, but I feel embarrassed like you all. I have noticed the spots have lightened. I would really like to try the blistex. I have always suffered from really dry lips and I think the appearance of the spots is connected with that. Especially when we consider they are oil glands. I first noticed them when I was 26/27. I've had them for 3 years. I've read things online that they can go away of their own accord and I hope this is the case!
I've have fordyce spots on my lips for about 2/3 years now, i have a 4-5 patchs on my top lip and a 10-15 spots on my lower corner lip.
It doesn't hurt or itch, just little white bumps and dry lips.

I've first started noticing these spots when i dated this girl at about day 5-10. (she had spots before i met her) I got concern because my lips started to get very dry and then as the days went on, I've kept a check on my lips and noticed one patch on my upper lip and 2/3 on my bottom lower corner. I've dated another girl after and started noticing white spots on her as well.
I'm not sure if this is only a coincidence but if anyone eles had this same problem or if you have a partner now, check them and see if they have it as well.
I'm currently single and will not date again because I don't want anyone else to go threw this.

So if anyone could confirm that they did not get it threw anyone else that would be great.

I've went to a 5 doctors and all 4 but 1 said it was nothing (not even fordyce spots) and 1 said it might be thrush (which scared the sh*t out of me by google image) and wasted $60-120cdn on medices that didnt work because i do not have thrush.
FORDYCE SPOTS LOOK LIKE THIS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im95U5EqDsE&feature=related

My understanding is that fordyce spots are tiny oil glands that get enlarged and is perfectly normal discovered by John Addison Fordyce in the 18 hundrends. If it has been around so long then why do the doctors that i went to didn't mention this to me. Fordyce's Spots are very common in adult males (50-90%) according to this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fordyce's_spot
At first i was worried my hole top and bottom lip would be coverd in white spots as I was not educated in what was happening to me.

Reading others comments and sites i've learned that this things might help
Blistex Lip Medex (conditioner)
Trentinoin Gel with Alpha Hydroxy Acid
Tocopherol and Argania
Zilactin
Vinegar
2 side exfoilatinf face wipe by "simple"
Accutane for acne

DO NOT TRY THESE PRODUCT WITHOUT CONSENT FROM A DOCTOR FIRST.

APRIL 12 2009
I will try all the products myself to see if it works and i will post the results back online.
i've made an email so if you want you can add me and message me, please feel free to.
