I had my removed yesterday and yes, the same exact issue. Like someone stabbing me with a knife in my shoulder when I take a deep breath, cough, burp, etc.. Very painful and frustrating. I can only hope it subsides quickly.

I know these posts are older but i am so glad I found your comments. I had a diseased gallbladder with stones removed one week ago and am having right upper quadrant cramps and occasional pain with breathing. Everybody i know says they went back to work a week after surgery and i am feeling like a big wimp. I usually have a good tolerance to pain but this is getting me down. I am a nurse and doctor wont sign release to work until 2 week follow up. Afraid my bosses may think i am "milking it" for the time off.

I too had my gallbladder removed last Thursday because of one last episode of gallstones that were finally diagnosed(thank goodness it was the worst pain ever and I've had 6 kids). Had the intense shoulder pain and all over stomach pain 1-2 days after surgery then felt immensely better. It's now day 6 and I've started this morning having a stabbing pain only when taking in a deep breath. This really sucks because I thought I was done taking the pain medicine and I had to break down and take more after the Motrin didn't help. This pain hurts pretty bad and I hope it doesn't get any worse. I'm sure it's normal of course if it gets worse or doesn't go away after a time I will call the surgeon.

I had mine removed 8 days ago and am having the same symptoms. Everyone acts like it's no big deal to have an organ removed. Want to say thanks for the reassuring threads.

So I'm only hours lost op, but came on here due to the sheer pain of breathing. It's good to know I'm not the only one having that trouble but I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't much advice other than "wait it out". So here's something that has helped me: ice packs over where the gallbladder used to be. At best guess the area is inflamed, and I have been breathing much easier since. Also, lemon and ginger can really help with bloating. Bloating comes about because the gallbladder is no longer there to store the extra bile, so sometime post op we don't get enough bile in our intestines to digest food, which can lead to excess gas and bloat. Lemon, real lemon, mimics bile and significantly helps digestion. Ginger attacks the bloat directly. Hope this helps.
