A relative (truly) was working outside in the heat. As a result of sweating and mowing/weed eating, he now has abrasions (rash like) between his butt cheeks. Old timers used to call it gaulded. How can he clear this up? We purchased some of the OTC meds for vaginal yeast infections, but I don't want to add to his discomfort. Would it be better to use a medicated powder to keep it dry rather than ointment and keep it moist?
Thank you.
I used to work in a restaurant and working long shifts during the summer with high humidity would result in this condition. Among waiters, it's comically known as "monkey butt". However, it can occur in the arm pits as well. The best treatment for this I've ever found is either Diaperene or Balmex. Apply it liberally and don't try to rub it in. It should provide some immediate relief. I will usually also apply it just before bed and it will be all cleared up in the morning.

We use to call it gig-leg. What worked extremely well for us was a liberal dose of Baby Gold Bond Medicated Powder. Keeps it from rubbing further and heals up within a few days. Start using it when you feel it coming on is best.

My Girlfriend told me this is called Monkey Butt. I use diaper rash medicine for it but I googled monkey butt and found there is Anti-Monkey Butt powder, they sell it at Rite Aid and a few hardware stores. Crazy huh?

I used my wife's monostat cream and it worked great. Not only did the cream heal but it also prevented further problems when I applied every day.

While living in Mexico, I discovered that "gaulding" (chafing) could easily be prevented by applying cornstarch beforehand. It is cheap and satiny smooth. Corn starch even worked well when I was already chafed, and it was very inexpensive.

Technu Calagel works to help heal it and if you want use a clean paper towel to keep skin from touch skin. I had a flappy belly after gastric bypass and my belly flap would lay (and sweat and gauld my groin area) so I'd wash up put on the Calagel (it has zinc for drying and benadryl for healing in it) then fold a clean white paper towel and put it under my flap of skin to keep them from touching and making the problem worse. I've since had a surger to remove the flap and don't have the issue.

I get it under the arms, under the breasts, and around the panty line. I use either corn starch or a hydrocortisone cream.
