i have this too.. i am only 13, and i got it very recently, and haven't had it for even a month. it gives me great discomfort, and my mom says it is probably just an awckward pimple or zit. but i am not sure. it is just like everyone else has described, and i am worried of what it could be. my first thought was 'is it skin cancer?' i looked online and don't think it is, but i am still not sure... if anyone had any ideas of what it could be that would be very helpful. :-)

What do you mean by "one girl I knew was like" and "I was like" and "he was like" etc.? What was the girl like? What were you like? What was he like? I can't make any sense out of your post.

I found the knot on my sons forehead in October of 2009....he was referred to a pediatric platic surgeon at Vanderbilt childrens hospital Had cat scan and 13 days later we were in surgery. He had a cranioplasty done(BROW LIFT) 55s titches where they cut himj from ear over the top of his head to the other ear and pulled his forehead down and scraped the know off his head. He handled the surgery very well...did not have to go to intensive care...and was out of the hospital 3 days later. NOW...one of the things they thought it was was fiberous displaysia(sp).. also they later called it exostosis. But after the biopsy came back they said it was bone marrow and calcium deposits. 8 months later...he has another knt. Actually found out today. They did tell us that there was a possibility that it would or could come back. Growth spurt is my thoughts he is 13 fixin to be 14. Hopes this helps..but my advice is to get a plastic surgeon who specializes int he head.

I too have a lump directly in the center of my forehead I'm 18 and it's starting to make me wonder when will it go? seeing as i've had it for around 2 years; So i decided to go to the doctors, i told him that the lump wasn't hurting me at all and that it was very hard like a bone. He said that it could be a Ovarian cyst or muscle. So he gave me some form of cream, which i applied for 10 days and nothing changed. I returned to him and he told me to take some scans, which i did and the results came up with nothing. He said it must be bone and the only way for it to go is to gain weight. I'm 9.11 stone in weight and rising, eating nuts, tuna and taking protein shakes. So far i haven't really found a far change from before so im thinking of going back another time but it seems like i don't actually know how to cure this, starting to frustrate me. If i can find the cure the lump will be gone in no time. Just need answers :-(

Im glad i'm not the only one who has it... I also had this small round hard lump on the left side of my forehead an inch just below my hairline. . I'm 38 yo and it's been there for like 10 yrs now. Though the growth is very slow, it really bothers me a lot and its embarassing to carry it because its very visible and everyone i know seing it tells me "hey you have lump on your forehead! have you knocked yourself on a wall??! and i goes like "no! it's inborn its been there since birth" !! it really embarass me everytime. Good thing i have a long hair and i could hide it with my bangs but i dont want bangs for the rest of my life.. My husband always tell me its a horn and my kids always ask me why i have a lump on my forehead.. One day an Orthopaedic surgeon saw this lump on my forehead because i had my hair pulled up . He asked me "hey whats that on your forehead is that a lump?" he said and i said "yes it is".. and i asked the Doctor if this is something serious, he said its nothing serious.. he said its a bone growth and i dont have to worry about it. After saying this i was so relieved but im still bothered because it so embarassing to hae something like this.. By the way my uncle has it too.. is this something hereditary??? Im afraid my kids would have it too.

Hello all, I've recently noticed that one of the two bones on the forehead is slightly bigger than the other - like a bump. I don't think I've banged my head, and it's causing me a bit of worry. I'm 16. Is this something to worry about? Could it be serious at my age? If possible, I would also like to know what sort of scans I would have if I get it checked out. Thanks! xox

anyone learn anything else about it?? I'm a 19 year old female and I've had a very small (about the size of a small pimple), hard bump right smack in the middle of my forehead, for about 2 or 3 years. I have not been to the doctor about it as I never really noticed it as it was so small...but now it is slowly getting bigger. It is still very small and not exactly noticeable in pictures, but in person it is quite obvious, my mother and boyfriend are the ones that have pointed it out. It had no head like a pimple, and I've tried popping it but nothing happens except that it hurts after a while if I keep digging my nails into it. It's kind of starting to freak me out, what if it's a tumor? or a cyst? it won't seem to go away, keep me posted if you know anything, as I'm sure the doctor will tell me it's nothing anyway.

I had an osteoma for a few years just above my one eyebrow from the onset as that of a small bump enlarging to the size of about half that of a dissected golfball. It was not a subaceous cyst as a cyst is softer and tends to move a little bit under the skin at times of which I have also had in the past.

At first, I didnt even realize the osteoma was even there. When I did realize it, it started to hurt only when pressure was applied mostly when I dried my hair with a towel after coming out of he shower. I let it go for an additional year until it was to the point that any type of pressure resulted in pain.

I made an appointment with a plastic surgeon who informed me that my osteoma was the result of a hemotoma from years ago which resulted in calcification of the skull. The main reason that it hurts is not because of the actual bump but because of the facial nerves on your face. What happens is that as the bump grows, it presses against the nerves and the result is pain that will never subside. I made an appointment to have it removed which cost me about $500 without insurance. I went in to have the surgery a few days ago. The surgery took about 30 minutes, as it is more evasive than just removing a cyst since the actual skull is chiseled, so to speak with surgical instruments.

The surgery itself wasnt bad. The nerves were deadened for several hours, I felt no pain at all during the extraction. There was the initial incision along with splitting the muscle tissue horizontally and then afterwards re-suturing of the muscle. I did feel some strange tugging, tearing and a lot of scraping on my skull during the surgery with no pain whatsoever. When the surgery was over, he sutured it up and then they wheeled me out to have my blood pressure taken and my wife brought me home. I was prescribed an antibiotic with some pain medicine. I had to keep ice on the site for 48 hours at a 30 minute on and 30 minute off to reduce bruising, swelling, etc. After the surgery, you can not bend over as the blood will literally rush to your head and can actually cause another hematoma if you arent careful.

All in all, the process wasnt that bad and I am really glad I did it because it would only have kept growing over the years from what I was told by my surgeon. I would recommend the surgery to everyone because it was one of the best things I ever did to get rid of an unsightly bump along with an increasing pain over the months. Hope this helps people out there because there doesnt seem to be a lot of follow-up information on osteomas on the net. Cheers!

It seems like there are two different problems with symptoms that are quite alike being discussed on this thread. Those of you who have had head trauma in the area where your bump now resides, do not fret. It's simply a growth of bone marrow, fatty tissue and calcium deposits which feel like bone beneath your skin. It's not known what causes it but trauma to the bone including bruising, especially of the skull, will often result in growths like this. On the plus side they are rather harmless aside from occasional pain due to swelling, on the negative side the only way to make them go away is to have them removed surgically - and even then, they can regenerate. As for those of you with a "hard pimple like thing" where you remember getting a lot of pimples before etc. it's not a "festered" boil if it's been there for years. More times than not you get small "cyst" like bumps that do not go away as a result of scarring from acne etc. It's due to an over-productive immune response in the skin cells in the affected area. There's treatment to reduce symptoms of scarring - talk to a dermatologist. The biggest difference and easiest indicator is size. Those of you with calcium deposits generating (almost literally fusing to your skull) beneath your skin will have larger bumps, generally reaching at least 3/4 of an inch in diameter and protruding from the forehead about half an inch (that's average) those of you with smaller bumps that are almost pimple size are more than likely suffering the results of scarring. Neither are really anything to worry about, but those of us who have either know how un-enjoyable it is to constantly be questioned about the "horn" or "mountain" growing on our forehead. Hope that helps some of you. Cheers.

I also have a lump on my forehead under the hairline. I have had it for about 1 year and since it does not cause any problems I never went to the doctor to check it out. Lately I have heard lots of stories about tumor and cancer so it has frightened me. This morning I decided to go to the doctor to check it out just for peace of mind. The doctor told me the lump on my head is a tumor, but not a bad tumor. Meaning I do not need to have it removed. The doctor said if I remove it, there is a chance it will grow back so the recommendation for me was to leave it as it will do no harm. So if you have any lump on your head/forehead, it's best to have it checked out by the doctor just for the peace of mind.

i have a lump too in the right side of my forehead and i am really worried about it. i went to the doctor and he said, it was nothing but i noticed that it is growing. the doctor told me it is a growing bone and i am not happy about it. i will try another doctor in a few weeks and if they can recommend me for a surgery. if the doctor will say, u can remove it by surgery and i will go for it. my friend told me, don't go for surgery because it will make an ugly scar but if i don't remove it maybe i will become an alien. i really stress about it and my husband told me don't think about it most of the time because it will affect your health but i can't help it. at the moment the lump still unnoticeable but if i touch it i can feel the a hard lump like bone.

I'm seventeen and noticed a growth on my right forehead when I was fifteen years old; it was rubbery yet had a hardness to it and protruded about 1 centimetre and had a width of about 2 centimetres... I had it excised when I was 16.
I have no memory of hitting this area of my head but I did have a dark spot on that area from my first and only pimple :-)
The excision went smoothly and now all I have is a REALLY ugly scar from surgery and a dark spot from the scar that didn't heal properly.
The doctor diagnosed it as a non-cancerous tumor although he could be wrong as I haven't seen another case like mine... I haven't gone for a second opinion.
So... if your growth is of rubbery consistency then you should get it excised like yesterday.
I would still really like to know what my growth was

In retrospect, one cool thing about the excision of my growth was seeing the sucker floating in a test tube and having no sensation in my forehead for a little while... I guess that's two cool things about cosmetic surgery
