I had it also- for over ten years- it grew very slowly.  I had a CT scan which showed it was exostosis - just a growth of bone. My doctor made a small incision along a wrinkle line on my forehead - under local anesthesia - and popped it off - almost using a chisel and hammer. A couple of days of recovery and I am back to new. There is no blood involved with this as one writer described. It is solid bone.

I've had mine for 12-14 years now.  Having it removed today.  Insurance is covering it - copay about $100.
I've read thru this entire thread and I'm very surprised by how few posters have actually seen a doctor about theirs.  Really?  It's almost 2012 people. Internet message boards are not a substitute for a doctor's exam.  See the doctor... have it removed.

I'm "Guest" who posted on 11/22/11 prior to my surgery.  Things went great.  Small incision closed with dissolvable sutures.  No bruising at all. Glad I had it done.  I encourage all of you who are wondering what your lump is, SEE-A-DOCTOR!  I can't stress this enough. If it's just a bone issue, have it removed and move on with your life. If it's not just a bone issue, better to find out sooner rather than later.

I have 2 knots/lumps/bumps or whatever on my forehead and I've had it since I was 4 and now I'm 12, my parents told me I go it by falling off a rocking chair when I was 4 and my head hit the ground but I'm sure they don't exactly know for sure according to what they told me because according to them my brother and I were being babysat while my parents were out and the babysitter told them my brother pushed me off the rocking chair and they told me the babysitter was just lying by trying to blame it on my brother (my brother was 8 at the time) but I'm sure they would'nt exactly know for sure that he did'nt if they were'nt there. Sometimes I think they're lying but I don't even really know.

Anyways, I'm very self conscious because of it and it lowers my self esteem. In my old school (in elementary) kids would be like what's that on your forehead and they'd touch and stuff and it was pretty annoying, but then I moved to another state and went to a new school and nobody ever mentioned it or asked me about or anything and it really helped because my self esteem would go up a little. But I know it would be different because it would be another state...But still I know they're probably just trying not to be rude. I'm not even sure if it's very noticeable or not because sometimes people who I just met would ask me right away and ask me what happened to my forehead, my brother and one of my friends says it's not even that noticeable.I remember when I had stayed over at my cousins' house for like a week and all of a sudden one of them told me I had something on my forehead and then said it looks like a mosquito bite or something and I was like "huh?" and then he was like oh never mind. But when I look in the mirror I think it's very noticeable and I think it makes me look angry somehow, I think I'd look way pretty without it being there which is why I'm self conscious, one of my friend in my old school said I'd look better without it and I asked my bestfriend and she said no I would'nt but I'm sure she was just sugar coating. Each time I ask my new friends about they either seem to not here me or ignore me or something and I'd feel really awkward so I just move on acting like I never asked and I'd feel a little uncomfortable asking about it.

I'd always ask my mom I want to get surgery to remove it or something because I hate it and I asked her why she did'nt get me surgery when I was younger to remove it and she'd tell me she went to the doctors and they said it would go away in time, which I'm sure was bs because it never went away...she'd tell me no we don't have money to give you surgery and we'd always argue and no matter what there's going to be this part of me mad at them for the knots and why did'nt they get me surgery when I was younger and I would'nt ever had to know about it and I would'nt be so self conscious and why did'nt they took care of me in the first place then I would've never got it. I know they can't do anything about the past but they would'nt even get me surgery to remove it or even try. But hey when I make a tiny mistake in the past and my mom won't let go of it and she's going to be all bitchy about it like no I can't let go of it, it bothers me so much, I'm all like nig is u srs? you can't let go that I did'nt do dishes that night and I did it in the morning instead but you want me to let go the fact that I have this sh*t on my head which caused 90% of the reason why I'm so insecure .lol.no.go f**k off. ~Of course I did'nt say that to her but those were my thoughts.

ANYWAYSSSSSSS. Anyone know a magical way to cure this without surgery? And how much it would cost to get surgery for it? And your experience of getting surgery on yours and the results. c:

I have the same lump on my right forehead. My sorry doctor told me the same thing that it was a cysit, not to worry about it and then blew me off. Because I lost my grandmother to cancer because of sorry doctors who did not tell us she had cancer until two weeks before  she died I didnt want to take any chances, so I asked my doctor could I be refered to a specialist. My doctor could not make her mind up, first she told me it was a cyist and then just extra bone.  I was told it was calcium build up. I have to take vitamin D pills and multi vitamins. My Vitamin D was low  and that can cause osteporosis - which can cause bone growth. I did go see a surgeon and he is doing a byopsy first then he is removing it next month. Im alittle nervous. Keep me in your prayers. Hope this helps/

hi guys, i really hope these might help you.. my mom also has occasional lump on her forehead 5 years ago.. we've been through for so many check ups and lab tests.. first we go to oncologist coz we thought that was something with tumor of cancer but all tests are negative then we go to ENT, and same with negative results dermatologist said that it was allergy then we refer to immunologist but they can't figure out what it is. tumor markers are negative, CT is neg, ASO as well as CRP are neg. (try to google those tests if u haven't encountered it yet) those test are profile for immune system. then we visit her cardiologist, we found out that this so called lump on her forehead occur during her ARB maintenace for hypertension. ARB or angiotensin receptor blocker that may create angioedema to some "sensitive individuals" like my mom.. the cardiologist finally decided to switch another maintenance drugs ei. calcium channel blocker instead which may lessen her sensitivity to angiotensin. i found out when I study Medicine, that sensitive to angiotensin activity individual have the high risk to have this lump or edema on their foreheads in regardless if he/she has hypertension or maintenace for that, it depends on the individual's diet or medicine that they take.. some may get this through stress related work. though my mom has a stressful work day and night shift, her doctor prescribe her to change her busy schedule to a more managable time instead. switching to less fat less sodium/salt also help her minimize the lump and lessen the retained water that may cause edema. she also switch her diet from normal fatty foods like fast foods and resto foods into vegetables and lean meat diet. for 3 years of these routine diet plus less stressful work, eventually her lumps. lumps are not good.. if you are not eager to search or to consult doctors (i really mean Doctors with "s") you really don't find what inside of it. maybe some of you have the same case with my mom, to others that has a different case, don't take your time for granted.. consult you doctors or much better have your second opinion to other doctors in different field or specialist. :)

its an Ivory osteoma, completely benign and harmless go on with your life

how come it is Ivory osteoma? the CT is negative and its not permanent on her forehead? sometimes it is present sometimes not.
it only triggers the lump when she's lack of sleep or stressed.

I also had one of these on my forehead but had it removed last Thursday, January 12. My neurosurgeon in Gadsden, AL removed the bone tumor. It was the largest mass he had ever removed.  My CT scan measured the mass at 12X24mm.  I had the procedure done as an outpatient.  Depending on the size he can take them off in his office.  Mine was so large he called in a second neurosurgeon for his advise.  A large vein was right below the skull and mine was attached to the skull.  He literally had to use a drill bit and grind the bone off.  "hypoerotisis" some name for benign tumor of the skull.  Mine did continue to grow.  If I were you I would have it removed before it got too large.  I think the larger they get the more complications they may have in the future.  I don't believe they are cancer but the size of them could cause further damage with sinus trouble, which I also have now.  I'm glad I had it removed before it caused any damage and too much bigger. Good luck!

i have a frontal lump on the left side of my forehead too.... it's been present for at least 2 yrs and it seems to be either moving or growing towards my eye as it now reaches the bottom of my brow.  i have no pain associated with the lump itself, but i do suffer headaches most everyday and frequent more severe headaches that are specific to that side and feels as if my eye will explode! i have had no diagnostics at all for this lump, but i mhave been recently diagnosed with a connective tissue disease which has resulted in "calcifications" in odd locations; for example a chest xray revealed a calcification near my right lung lobe..... i wonder if this forehead nodule is more of the same and am curious as to whether any of you have also been diagnosed with a connective tissue or other autoimmune disorder....
