Hello, I am a 44 yr old female. I had my pilonidal cyst lanced atleast 2 times before surgery. Surgery was about 15 yrs ago. I've been fine until about a month ago. The nagging pain is back. In retrospect, I'm lucky that it's not swollen and infected. I remember my surgeon saying he was happy that I felt better when I went back for my follow-up after surgery, but then he said he new where the "devil was at if he raised his ugly head again". I didn't understand what that meant until now. Whatever the surgery consists of, it doesn't resolve the issue. From what I see here, recurrance is almost gauranteed. If someone finds the problem, please post here and help us all
I have had 2 lanced and 2 sygerys. Last one sucked. Took 3 months to heal. The tailbone was exposed. I have had pain there for years. I can't sit in the same position long and drivibg over an hour is a killer. Of course the dr I think botched the sygery. It was very deep. The ass hole said oh 3 was and it will close he talked me into this leaving it ope and letting it heal from the inside out. The meat around this gap is no longer there it hurts a lot. It feels like he took out The meat that protects the tailbone. I have suffered 8 years with this and didn't know others have this problem. Boy and I surprised I am not alone. Now what to do about this is another question.
Hi all,
It's comforting to see that I am not alone with this issue. I had a pilondial cyst form in April of 2011 when I was in USMC boot camp and I was not able to have it taken until April 2013, after I returned from deployment. The surgery went well and the wound healed open, however after a few months I began experiencing symptoms similar to what I have been reading on this forum--deep, dull aching pain when sitting for longer than 15-20 min., inability to carry heavy weight on my back, etc. After seeing a myriad of medical officers, pain management specialists, physical therapists and orthopedic specialists, the current surgeon I am seeing has suggested what I believe to be the most resonable idea, that the lack of tissue between my tailbone and the scar tissue is the source of the pain. I am scheduled to have an additional surgery this fall that will relocate additional tissue on top of my tail bone and hopefully will provide me with some much-needed relief. I wish you all the best of luck in finding solutions to this awful condition.
Someone mentioned a specialist in Philly, can you give us a name? My son has had 4 surgeries in 6 years and still in constant pain. The last surgery was extensive and was performed by two doctors, colorectal and plastic surgeon to close it. Long story short he's still in this horrible pain...we can't even get into see a pain management doctor because they don't think they can help, won't even take a consult, so frustrating!!
You are not alone. I had the same surgery. Intra-muscular needling by my physiotherapist did reduce the scar tissue adhesion, thus relieving the tenderness of the area. However,my pita pain is still there. Internal massage by a specialist physiotherapist did reduce some of the tailbone tension and she could shift it a little. However, it does not stay. I have had two shots in the tailbone, which is an excrutiating process and did not work - except for reducing pudenal nerve symptoms. I now await another type of shot to be done directly into the small spaces between the tailbone joints, with the specialist physiotherapist in attendance. These trips are a 6 hr round trip, plus costs. Because of the pain, I cannot drive myself. Be sure to consider some mental health medications in addition to your pain meds - PITA is so life-altering and hard to handle. I lived with shoulder pain that exceeded this pain - but never left me so emotional as PITA does. A sit/stand desk and a medical bed in my living room are how I am trying to live. Good luck and walk as much as possible.
I had pilonidal cyst surgery in 1971. Forty three years later, it still hurts to sit on my tailbone. I wish that I never had that blasted surgery, and left the cyst alone. The discomfort and pain that I've had to endure for forty three years was not worth it. Anyone should think twice about getting that elective surgery done, unless it is absolutely necessary!
I have similiar pain. I injured tailbone and also had pilonidal cyst removed years ago. i found recently that bicycle riding had relieved pain, which I thought had started the pain initially. I also have lost a ton of weight, now no padding. I'm going to give cycling a try, but weather is cold now. The movement of cycling may replicate the massage you rec'd. My tailbone pain definitely susided after i got home from an hour bike ride.
How did your surgery end up going? Has the dull aching pain when sitting gone away? I am having the same issues for about 2 years now.
I feel your pain. I have the same surgery for the first time when I was 15 then I had 5 more i went to the best surgeons where I was living I cannot blame them. Last surgery I had was when I was 20 that's 8 years ago , in germany and it never came back but the solution I used to " wash" the place was very strong even burnt my jeans as if it was chlorine I didn't care much since it cleaned it well but 8 years later I still feel the pain constantly I can't do sit ups at all I can't lie on my back I don't let anyone touch my back even my boyfriend. It's been hell your pain may be even worse than mine, the problem is I am now living in oman and I do not have health insurance and even if I did I don't want any doctor here to try and guess what's wrong with me the whole health sector here is not that great. I will be following your story please let me know if you find anything new I would really appreciate it.
Good luck
