I've been taking gabapentin for two years and since then I started retaining water on my legs and gained some.weight.
Your story is me to the tee....om four foot elevan and have gained 60 ibs in almost two yrs was size eight now im 16-17. I hate it too. I hardly eat im never hungry when I eat its literally popsicles. Ten bites of something that the family eating to force myself to eat. I need to get on something else.
I have been on Wellbutrin, klonopin, 1mg 4 times a day Ativan 1mg up to twice a day more of a PRN and recently the doctor prescribed Gabapentin 300 (up to 4 pills a night if needed) I wear a size 2 so I only take the gabapentin if I cannot sleep. 600 mg makes me feel drunk but I do pass out. It actually helped decrease my appetite but I am not 100% sure it was the gabapentin. Even still not going to take any risks of gaining weight so I only take them maybe 2 times a month. I have friends who swear by them and take them daily far more then I ever would take and none seem to have gained weight. They were a little on the larger size from the start so who knows?
Also wanted to add that I am vegan and do not eat any processed food, don't drink soda whether diet or regular in fact I don't eat ant thing containing sugar or substitute sweeteners. No cookies or candy ect. This all began April 2012 (I was wearing a size 18w and 2x) By Feb 2013 down to a size 1/2 even some size zeros. Needless to say I am very cognizant of what goes into my body. May I suggest to eliminate soda both diet and regular if you are on any drugs that may cause weight gain.
This is "anonymous...the 4'10" who was about to be an actual ball!
Well, I finally got relief from my doc's PA...I started seeing her instead of him and thank God she actually listened to me! In addition to my MS pain that the gabapentin was for I also was having daily headaches, sometimes migraines. She put me on topiramate 100mg, twice a day.
Not only did that greatly reduce my headaches it stopped my weight gain! I read a lot of people lose a lot of weight on this med, but for me it just stopped the gaining. *I did get put on a new MS med that turned out to be the cause of 8 miserable weeks of diarrhea...there were a few new meds and other things going on...and that helped me get rid of the gaba weight gain (I don't recommend this method).*
Anyway my weight has still been steady ever since, still having the benefits of the gaba, having greatly reduced headaches, and keeping my weight steady.

Yes you might consider following Dr Terry Wahls diet as it has miraculous results. Good luck.
Hi. Sorry to be so random but was just wondering if you ever found another medication to work. I myself have gained like 60 lbs. so sad!
So sorry for the "sudden" message but just wondering how you made out. I too have gained 60lbs
I gained 40 pounds with Cymbalta and had major mood swings.
I have been on Gabapentin for one month. I'm taking 300 MG three times daily. This drug is a life saver. I take it for nerve pain from car accident & for anxiety. No weight gain. I've learned you can't believe every thing you read, every person is different. I sleep so much better and my mind isn't constantly racing. Hooray for this awesome drug.
Me too. No weight gain. Been taking 300 MG Gabapentin 3 times day for nerve damage/anxiety from car accident. Awesome drug. No side effects. Awesome drug.
You are so right. You can't believe everything you read. I have been taking Gabapentin since March/April and haven't gained any weight either. I was taking 600 mg three times per day but I noticed that I had a hard time remembering things that I normally wouldn't forget so I am now cut back to 300 mg morning and noon and then the 600 at night. So not only does that keep my fibromyalgia pain away, I sleep wonderfully, and just like with you it helps me with my anxiety. Very happy with this drug as well!! Yay! :)
I know its late but I'm a 33yo woman and this is exactly what I've experienced. I'm downright giddy
I have gained 40lbs on Gabapentin since January of this year (it is now November). It took me a while to figure out what was causing the weight gain since I work out daily and have an incredibly physical job. I have never weighed more than 110 lbs in my 35 years of life, so hitting over 140 is freaking crazy. I will be going to my dr in a week or so, and am going to find out what we can do to get this weight off because I am already depressed without becoming a complete fatty. I'll try to find this site and let you know what he suggests. Good luck!
This pill works for pain and the headaches without weight gain? Did I read that correctly? I have fibromyalgia and migraines almost daily which causes me to not function very well. I'm currently taking 300mg of gabapentin 3x a day, and this 40 pounds I've packed on can only be from this medication because I work out daily and my job is like a 5 hour workout at a gym with an evil, unfeeling private trainer. I should not be gaining any weight at all, but it all started with this drug. And I still have headaches! So you may have just given me a miracle here.
