I have been on Gabapentin for 7 months and gained 15 lbs. I expressed to my Dr. and he really doesn't seem to be concerned; however, my husband is not very happy about my weight gain and he makes remarks on what I eat. ( I eat healthy) and I takes walks every day and dance class once a week. I'm concerned that my husband does not respect me now. i sent my husband a copy of an article that confirmed that gabapentin does cause weight gain in some people. I feel like God is punishing me. I need to stay on this medication as it helps with my nerve pain, CRPS and restless leg syndrome and it helps me sleep at night. Glad I'm not alone on this one. I choose to hold my head high no matter what people say about over weight people.

Can you take diet pills while on gabapentin

Your husband sounds like a complete jerk who should be SUPPORTING you through this and not trying to make things even worse for you! You should tell your doctor if YOU are not comfortable with the weight gain, and then consult a divorce attorney.

This is exactly what happened to me. I gained 45 pounds the first year and have been working out for two years now. I workout five days a week and eat healthy. Every workout I run three miles, do Pilates and then free weights. So frustrating, it only keeps me from gaining additional weight.

When they lowered the dose I lost five pounds but had extreme anxiety so I went back up to my 3000 mg per day.

Anyone please help. Any meds instead that do not cause weight gain?!?

I hav read most of the posts and am surprised no one mentioned the impact f the drugs on thyroid and your metabolism. I have been taking it since Sep 2016 and although I was throwing up and certainly no hungry, I gained 10KG in 8 weeks. I spoke to my GP and he explained ha no one knew why, but ha is was very likely it lowered he metabolism. his means it is not he intake but how our body got basal in it's burning of energy.... like being asleep. I therefor started a metabolic diet on November 1s and lost 8 kg so far. It's hard... fighting against this constant pressure n my metabolism and thyroid, eat mostly paleo food and do a least 3x /week 30 minutes intense aeroob training. In order to stay sane I do this diet 5/2 so in the weekend I can have a treat.I realise I will have to stay on it for the rest of my life if I don't want to end morbidly obese... but once am back my normal weight can slacken a little the regime. A metabolic diet completely cuts out sugar and demands aeroob training. Last week gained 400 grams by being filed by a diet yoghurt... i contend sugar. I did everything as normal just had some yoghurt instead of a piece of fruit.... big mistake. For paleo food look up paleo diet. ( it's basically mostly raw foods and things unprocessed) I wrote my own diet, but I am not a dietician... get prof advise if you have specific needs. Don' blame yourself , you have to at to lose wight, just eat the stuff that costs your metabolism and thyroid... like kale, broccoli, celery, sprouts... be careful with cab veggies... I was fooled by radishes and carrots. proper legumes you need and for the high blood pressure eat garlic ( not roasted) I make in the morning a smoothy of these veggies and add 2 clove of garlic, turmeric and a little cayenne pepper... all fat burners.
Hop this helps... I take 2700mg/ day plus 2 nortriptylene, Celecoxib and Immuran. Lethal cocktail for weight gain.

Are you still doing well on it? I just started it today, and after reading all these, I'm scared to death! I don't want to gain weight! And I don't want to be reliant on it forever.

Will you not be hungry on gabapentin 300 mg the information that came with my prescription said it would

You need to eat through out the day to keep your metabolism active. Even if your not hungry. If not your body goes into survival mode and hoards the fat.

Cymbalta will make you gain weight very fast , and does have many side effects. Doctors will tell you it does not, but it is the opposite..Therefore, do watch your diet and hopefully it will help with whatever reason you are taking it for.

i was prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain as well, but all these meds under these classifications will cause major weight gain. The only med that will not is Topamax, but that is not used for nerve pain, as per pharmacist, who is more knowledgeable than doctors about drug side effects... next time you want info about medications, ask your pharmacist. They will help you.

I would like to know why doctors are dishonest about medications and side effects? it is very deceiving, and disappointing for the patient who is suffering and wants answers

I started using Gab 3 weeks ago and so far I have not gained weight, but my efforts to lose have been really slow. I am taking 900mg per day and am supposed to up the dosage to 1800 mg per day. and told my dr. about it and expressed that I am going to stay at this dosage because it seems to be so far so good for me. I haven't slept this good in years! My brain is more stable though I am foggy at times, it's hard to explain. I am concerned about weight gain, because it's hard enough as it is, but once I become acclimated to this medicine, if I start gaining, it's gone. I simply will not take this if it means weight gain. It's not vanity so much, but I have hated being heavy, and the last blow my self esteem needs is to go up 4 dress sizes! I work out 5 days a week, I am 51, gave up alcohol, am a vegetarian, so....we'll see what happens. Let's pray for each other for a life without pain yet for healing without weight gain!

I've lost 100lbs while on it, i take 3 a day 30 minutes apart... i was on a diet already though, it just makes me motivated and happy like adderal, it does mess with my speech sometimes though, like stuttering. if you want to eat a lot i guess it could motivate you to do that.
