Hi,
I sympathize with you. I am currently on the same does as you and have been since last Sept. I saw my Dr on Wed and he verified that one of the side effects is weight gain and that just plain sucks!
It's a catch 22. You're in pain and it is difficult the exercise. So what do you do? You force yourself to walk 20-30 min a day to start. Get up to at least 60. YOU can make the time if you want to drop the weight. Secondly, diet is essential. Knock all carbs out completely. Oatmeal is great for losing weigh. You can go on line and research with foods would be best for you. I can't stress enough how important these two go hand in hand. Don't eat past 6:00. It sticks!
Eventually I want to be weaned off this awful drug. Don't get me wrong, it is great for nerve pain and I had severe nerve damage and am still recovering from back surgery.
I am a physical therapist aide and I was thinking last night. In order to repair and revive the nerves, you have to exercise to maintain adequate circulation.
Let's get off this drug soon! I really do feel for you. Good luck!

I hope I have the same reaction as you. The Doctor just put me on 300 mg of gabapentin to help with nerve pain in my right hand. I really need to reduce the pain but I am in the process of losing weight and it is much needed. I've lost 10 pounds and still have 40 to go. I don't want to interfere as the weight loss is for my health. Weight gain as a side effect didn't occur to me at the Doctors office.
I just started 100-200 gaba a day at the moment for my anxiety. also alternating - 1 cap of hydroxyzine 25m for anxiety as well - alternating days. I've been cutting carbs for a while and have lost 10lbs from that so we'll see if my eating habits continue to have good effects. As for medication, don't know yet as it's too soon to tell but anxiety has tapered off dramatically-feeling very relax but still alert. I do drink coffee in the am so that helps get me moving after a great night of sleep. Also, the weird vivid dreams happened and noises, mild hallucinations that I will talk to my doctor about next visit. Good luck.
100m gaba 2 times a day for anxiety -- alternate days -- then 1-2 of 25m hydroxyzine a day for anxiety. works good to calm. not going up in dose as this amount works fine. I've lost 8lb mostly from cutting back on carbs. Also, I have to go to the bathroom more on this med. good luck
Also some weird dreams. dr prescribe to me both meds As Needed up to 400 Gaba per day, alternate days 2 caps 25m hydroxyzine per day. All is swell!
my neurologist advised me that one of the most common side effects on gabapentin is weight gain. I take it for a nerve pain disorder. I have similiar trouble with weight gain with no real changes to my diet since beginning taking this drug.
I have been on 1200mg of gabapentin 3 times a day for 2 years i have lost my appetite compleatly i have gained weight due to the drugs i am on and the fact i have trouble moving in general never mind exercise.
The doctor has put me on weight managment tablets. (Slimming tablets)
I have only just started taking them so fingers crossed i loose some of the chub.
Good luck everyone.

Yes I've put on weight and always tired
I've been on gabapentin for 4 years. I went from 109 lbs and a size 3 to 170 lbs and a size 16. I've best myself up over it wondering how I put on so much weight and it's caused huge depression. Its encouraging though sad to see it was probably the gabapentin all along and others experienced the same thing. Im weaning off of it in hopes I can start to take the weight off.
I gained 30 pounds in a few months. I am stopping the gabapentin . I went from a 6 to a 14 ,
I had the operation the guide of gastric bypass sleeve I've been taking Gabapentin I gained a lot of weight back and shouldn't have Connie
