:duh:
I guarantee that if someone provided me with a wet suit that fit, I could go out TODAY and swim 2.4 miles.

I need to go to some stroke classes and/or that total immersion stuff before I could think about any tri. I'm no joke 35 lbs up and probably a couple inches taller (and 11 years since) my last swim meet. You forget things

I'm sorry I'm giggly today and that didn't help. I need a nap or a time out. :|

See, I think the run, but what do I know?
PH if you're that good at swimming then why don't you do it?

Yah, They still have some openings at CDA. I'll pick ya up on the way over. You don't even have to worry about travel plans.

So how does one go about training for an Ironman?

A quick google...

It's a beginner schedule, so prolly on the low end of the spectrum, but averaging the weeks, it's 10-hours of training/wk. I'd imagine for your marathon Pug, you were probably logging 6-7 hours a week of training. So really, from the bits I've read, a 50% bump in your regime and you could 'do' an IM.

I actually bookmarked that site at del.icio.us and that was the first one I found since ironmanlive didn't seem to have anything quick and easy to find. I just have to get to the place where attempting the schedule is realistic.

Step 1: Learn how to swim.
Step 2: Buy a bike (yes, I do know how to ride one)

Thanks!

My personal opinion...

Tri's...sprint then inty distance first before any IM's considered. I wouldn't even think IM until I had done this.

I may have this all wrong though...

No, I think you're absolutely right. It's the same with marathons (do a 5k first and work your way up), but even as I started running again in 03 and had a 5k planned I was thinking about the marathon. Granted, I was thinking about it since I was 8, but that's a different point all together. It's like the ultimate goal and ultimate dream, but first I have to do the smaller stuff so I know I can do it and get there.
I wouldn't dream of registering until I know that I can handle the swim. And like Miss Jenn, that's the one that scares me.

The only reason I'm thinking of a marathon is so that I can become a member of The Club. It's never been a goal or a dream.

That was my thinking too Rob, however now I have to PR what I did. Doing a Tri is a "dream". IM...probably never.
Pug, I figured you were thinking this way.

Don't TELL me. SHOW me.
First rule of triatholoning; anyone who brags about how great they are isn't worth a sh!t.
Not that you're bragging, but 2.4 miles is a loooonnnnnng swim. You don't know until you've tried it. And I think that sentiment diminishes the effort of the Ironpeople around here.
Wow, did I just get all political there? More coffee for me.

This is my plan. Except for the Ironman part.
