This coming October, there's a local 10k race I would like to compete in.
Since the race date is pretty far off, I figure that will give me some nice time for preparation. My physcial fitness level isn't necessarily bad, but I wouldn't say it's that good either.
I've never been a big runner. The farthest I've ever run was perhaps 6 or 7 miles at one time. I just began running a couple weeks ago. Currently, I'm running 3-4 times per week, at a distance of 4.3k. I haven't timed myself yet, but plan on starting that, beginning tomorrow.
What kind of running regimine should I consider? Times I should shoot for? Any other suggestions that might help? Thanks :D

You know, if you can run 6-7 miles without stopping you are in good shape. A 10K race is just over 6 miles. Just work on time. As you progress you'll build endurance in all area, you'll build lung capacity which in turn will make you faster. If you could get up to 10 miles by september with a 00:5:30 mile time, you'll be in good shape for the race. To tell you the truth, it sounds like you are in good shape now.
Best of luck to ya.
