Happens to me too. I sometimes gag when I brush my tongue when brushing my teeth. I have a habit of leaning my left arm on the sink when I'm brushing my teeth. If I'm leaning my weight on my arm when I gag, I get intense pain all over my body. It sort of feels like pain over all of my nerve endings. Painful and scary when it happens.!

It's due to the straining of all the muscles and throw in all the acid that is burning your throat, mouth, nose. I vomit very violently if I get the stomach bug and hurt in chest, between the shoulders, ribs, throat and pretty much all over for a few days. It's a severe stinging pain that has no end everywhere.

Hey I thought I was the only one who felt that pain! It's like my stomach muscles are being pulled every time I throw up. It's currently the next day and my stomach is in so much pain. It's hard to eat. Hard to pas gas, pass stools, and I feel bloated.

I had the same thing. And my bp dropped as well and I was lying on the bathroom floor trying to keep my head lower than my knees so my bp would go higher. I felt like I couldn’t breathe and cold sweat all over my body. I heard it’s a response of the vagel nerve. The stomach pains are so intense because the bowel movement isn’t happening so the body responds by throwing up but nothing would come out cause I hadn’t eaten in a while so all that jerking movements of the upper body is why I’m having really bad nerve pain in my neck, shoulders, upper back, lower back, and chest. Everyrtime i breathe hard or laugh it hurts in my chest and neck.

Any answers????? I have RA but this pain kicks that pain in the arse! And my head throbbing...I think it's some kind of nerve issue. I nearly went to the ER today. It's so hard to explain to my Doctor but I'm going to show her this forum! I had a brain tumor removed last year so this throw up session really worried me. Took BP and it was elevated but that's probably from the pain.

I am having this daily sometimes more than once a day. I am going to a doctor now. Had blood work and a Hpalori test done. Once I have the results I will go in for a upper GI. If I get any answers I will share with all.

Hey, it sounds like you have shortening of the esophagus, or another problem similar. You should see a doctor and get C-Rays and maybe a scan. There are ways for them to fix this. I don’t want you to be living the way that you are, choking, gagging and forcefully vomiting almost every time you eat. It’s no way to live.
I truly hope you see this and get it checked.

As for the arm pain when vomiting, I believe it is to do with a mix of straining, and of blood pressure changes when vomiting. I get the same pain, and I manually checked my blood pressure before and after vomiting. Before, it was 98/43 (mine is naturally low), and after vomiting it was a whopping 159/103. The pain was intense, and it wasn’t just due to the vascular changes, it was also due to me straining and supporting my body with my arms.

Blood pressure changes that are sudden can cause vascular pain. If you wish to try and reduce it, there are different things you can do to prevent it, such as changing your position when vomiting so that your body is straight and your muscles have to strain less, and not using your arms as support. You should also drink an electrolyte solution after, and eat a banan to regain the potassium lost when vomiting.

I hope this helps you all. It’s not a pleasant thing to live with.

I just had the worst night of my life. Had too many chia seeds which resulted in terrible stomach cramps, many bowel movements (some diarrhea), and vomiting. My body always reacts to vomiting the same way you have all described. So I hopped on here and strangely felt a bit comforted to know it’s not just me.

My abdomen, chest, area, neck, and back feel like nerve pain is shooting through anytime I heave or cough. I believe Vagus Nerve is the culprit. Look it up and you will see that it totally makes sense. However, I didn’t come across anything about how to avoid the pain from vomiting. Like others have said, dehydration from vomiting and using muscles to puke was also why we are in pain. But in terms of the nerve pain/electrocuted feeling, I think is the Vagus Nerve.

I have the same thing. It’s like sharp excruciating pain in my chest, down both arms and my head is pounding when I throw up. It hurts so bad that I am yelling how bad it hurts and crying. My doctors have said the same thing, that they don’t know why. I really wish I knew why bc it is bad.

Don't suppose anyone ever found the answer to this? I have just experienced the same thing after vomiting! Feels like a mixture between electric shocks and someone trying to pull your arms off your body!

I have the same exact problem, and it's scary. When I vomit, afterwards I have horrible pain down both arms. From the shoulders all the way into my hands, and they literally feel like they're being crushed by a thousand pounds of pressure. It's like a simultaneous pain between feeling that all my veins and arteries are going to explode, yet also feeling like everything's being crushed from the outside. It hurts so bad that afterwards I'll usually just lay on the bed and cry for a few minutes. Sometimes it can take several minutes before the pain goes away. I have never read any reason for this, yet I see a lot of people have this problem.

I know this post is old but to anyone else out there reading through these posts because this happens to you.. this has happened to me since I was born, whenever I puke I have such extreme pain in my chest that radiates down to my arms it makes me sob. The pain lingers in my forearms and hands for about 30 minutes then just goes away. I’ve always thought this was normal my entire life till my fiancé saw me puke then burst into tears and the look on his face made me realize this isn’t normal. I’m sorry to everyone this happens to.
