I found out I had Hypothyroidism about 2 years ago and have had trouble finding a diet that actually works for me.  I have looked and tried so many things but it seems I always stay around the same weight.  Does anyone have any ideas??

Also, has anyone else had any problems finding a doctor that actually checks to make sure they have you on enought medicine?

Hello assengland,

Hypothyroidism can certainly be a problem with weight gain.  The only thing I can suggest is to maintain a low calorie diet somewhere around 1200 Calores or less.  You'll need to take in lean meats (very low fat), fresh veggies and fruit and stay away from sugary foods.  Since your metabolism is sluggish a lot of the sugar you take in will be stored as fat.  Think of it as being diabetic and there are a number of approved diabetic diets you could use.  You might consider Dr. Bernstein's low carb diet.  Just do a search on his name to find out more about him.  He is a type 1 diabetic from the age of 14 and he is up in years now.  He doesn't take diabetic medications.  He corrected his diabetes with diet and exercise.  And, that's another thing.  You need to exercise to increase your metabolic rate even though your thyroid is a slow poke.
