I'm also experiencing the same. I ask my friends often to confirm but they say no and they haven't smell smoke.
Well I don't have burning eyes but I do smell smoke I think it's something to do with my sinuses it just started about two weeks ago I do have a sore tooth which I'm going to get checked out this week but I guess stranger things could happen
This just started happening to me about a month or so ago. It went on for about a month, then stopped. Last week it started again. The smell is so strong it makes me not want to inhale through my nose and it makes my sinuses stop up. If I cover my nose and breath, it smells fine. As soon as I start breathing regular air, the smokey smell is back. My smells got ruined after having to do nose iodine swipes before surgery. Now, most perfumes smell like chemicals. I can only drink, Root Beer or Ginger Ale or fruit tasting sodas. Anything else and it tastes like chemicals. Ugh.....
I should say, for me, the smell is a cigarette smoke smell. Its so strong this time around, I can't breath through my nose unless I cover it with my hand. My body got jacked up from the stupid iodine nose swipes they made me do twice now before surgery. Two weeks after my first surgery and the first time doing the nose swipe, I broke out in a rash all over my body, which I've never had any kind of rash that I'm aware of in my 45 years. Now my skin is totally scarred all over from that rash and so I look like a spotted leopard. Thank god it didn't make it to my face and hands. Since then, all perfumes smell like chemicals and most soda's taste like chemicals. Certain smells are so strong in chemicals it's overwhelming.
thank you, this has helped
After finally going to a neurologist and many tests later, I have been diagnosed with left temporal lobe epilepsy. This particular diagnosis explains quite a bit, especially the smoke smell which odd smells can be attributed to left temporal lobe epilepsy.
I do too! I just came on-line to see what's up with this. It's driving me crazy. I keep thinking something is on fire.
Me too! Just started for me a few days ago.
I also smell smoke at Newark, Delaware. But it is seasonal. Most people can't smell it because they are not sensitive enough. It is smoke! I traveled this week and did not smell it, but when I returned it was a very obvious smoke odor. I think it is coming from fireplaces (it started to get cold) or people burning Fall leaves. It could also be related to Delaware city refinery. About 4 of 100 persons can also smell the smoke.
I have been smelling smoke for a few years. I asked my Pulmonary Doctor about it. He had no clue. He said you are on your own with that...Like I was crazy..... . I have never smoked either.
I think I know the cause. Do you drink cranberry juice? That's what it was for me.
Nope not really. I mean it's extremely rare if I do. I'm wondering if it's from nasal sprays for allergies.
I smell cigarette smoke too. It drives me nuts. I feel like I can't breath. But tomorrow it will be gone. I don't why this happens or when it will again. It's very annoying. I don't smoke no one in my house does either
I have had 2 sinus surgeries and NOTHING has cleared up the smoke smell. I've had a CT scan and the surgeries were major, invasive ones to stop this. Nothing has worked. I will be calling my ENT AGAIN - tomorrow. Try meditation: inhale thru the nose - oh wait - can't do that because all I can concentrate on is the CIGARETTE SMOKE SMELL.
I too smelled smoke for the past 4 years. Had all the MRI's etc done. I finally found out it was Acid Reflux. Apparently it's not a very common side effect but it's 100% what was causing mine. Went on Prilosec for 7 days and disappeared. It comes back occasionally and I treat it with another round of Prilosec. My smoke smell was like my face was in an ash tray. It's gross and uncomfortable. I did not read the whole thread so maybe someone already mentioned this.
