I am having the same issue. It has been three years now but it comes and goes. I typically get it for about a month and it goes away. Then I might get it 4 or 5 months later. I lived in two different places so I don't believe it's environmental, we also keep several plants in our house for air quality.

The only medication I take once in a while is Ibuprofen. I am going to try and pay attention to see if there is a correlation but at this point, I don't believe that is the case. I have never had sinus issues. I haven't been sick in many years. I am very healthy and active.

Bad habits that I have that I would be concerned about is that I drink diet soda with Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium, I also eat chocolate bars such as Mr. Big or Kit Kat regularly. I probably eat too much peanut butter.

I have noticed that I have a sensitive tooth and will be going to the dentist soon.

I drink a green smoothie on a regular basis with spinach, broccoli, frozen berries, and carrots. I regularly have omelets with ham and cheese. I eat a lot of chicken. I eat potatoes regularly and I drink a lot of water from a city source.

I mention all of this hoping that many people will see something in common or perhaps they don't do some of these so we can eliminate some stuff. Many of these things are common so I wouldn't jump to conclusions if most of us say something like we eat chicken. But if some of you don't eat chicken and experience this then at least I can probably eliminate it as a possibility.

Myself and my friends thought I was losing my mind when I explained this awful sense of smoke smell that Ive been experiencing all the time. I have never smoked or allowed smoking around me. Its awful! It feels like its a scent thats stuck deep into my nasal cavity. I hate the smell of ciagarette smoke with a passion!!!!! If anyone has discovered a cause/or cure, please let me know.
Thank you

My symptoms are similar, with it coming and going. I have managed to correlate it very well with my eating/drinking habits. When I "fall off the wagon" and eat a lot of sugar/drink a lot of sugar, it will flare up a week or two later, and last for months. The only way to stop it from happening that I've found is to stop eating/drinking sugar for a time period.

If it's bad enough, I get a minor sinus infection with a runny nose and cough. When that happens the smoke smell is really bad.

Try changing your diet to a sugar-free one or at least keep an eye on how much sugar intake you have, and see if flareups correlate with large increases in sugar.

This is so strange. I had an upsetting argument on Saturday and on Monday I started smelling smoke non stop... What I am smelling is more like a campfire, so I guess is slightly more pleasant than cigarette smoke. I think I will set up an appointment to see someone about it.

YES! I finally figured my problem and the smoke smell was being caused by drinking diet sodas. I hope that helps!

I just had to jump in and share, hope you don't mind? I think It's caused by diet soda! I drink Diet Dr. Pepper and on occasion Diet Coke or Coke Zero. I finally linked it to that after not smelling the smoke smell while on a cruise. I wasn't drinking any soda and as soon as ordered one on the plane the smell returned. I will miss diet soda but I won't miss the smoke smell! Hope that helps?

I've begun experiencing the same thing over the past month. I've been asking people constantly if they smell smoke and course they don't. I am glad I did a search for this symptom, although, I was feeling goofy even typing it in! But there you all were, with the same infuriating symptoms.
Have you had any resolution or answers?

Hi I've only experiened the smell of burning the last few days, I was sat on the sofa at my dad's a few nights back talking to my boyfriend on the phone, when a cloud of smoke went past my face and a strong smell of something burning, I flew off the sofa to check around but there was nothing and the smell went, then the following night after a long shift was just leaving town on the bus and I could smell smoke again. Same thing again tonight as I got off the bus, I was thinking this time of year, maybe everyone is burning there rubbish, but its late at night to be burning rubbish, a barbecue yeah, only occurs when I'm on my own. My daughter lives near mine so I called in and.asked her.if she could smell smoke she replied No, so I'm thinking now am I a Looney toon lol I'll just see if it continues, as early days or I'm just losing the plot lol

I also recently began to smell smoke, my eyes burn and I feel a need to seek fresh air! I've done a lot of research and I made starting to believe it is a result of taking Cipro & Flagly for a bout of Diverticulitis. Cipro can be toxic and it can mess with your neurotransmitters. I have numerous other symptoms but this one is driving me crazy!!! I'm curious to know if anyone else has recently been on Cipro or another antibiotic and then started smelling things that don't exist?!? Argh!

I think that you have something there for me. I started taking Biotin about the time that my smoke smells started. It isn't always there and sometimes not at all. That is probably because I am not consistent with using it. At one point, I was out of Biotin and that is probably when I had a long lapse in the smells. I will go off again and see what happens. Thank you!

Hello all. I am very happy I checked this page, since I found that it might be the Biotin capsules for me, too.In my case, it started by a weird smell that I thought it must be my neighbor odor, it was horrible, but not permanent. Then I moved to a new apartment, where is a smoke free community, so smelling cigarette was unusual. But I have had it for 18 months till now. I tried many things, doctors, blood tests, brain MRI ......and nothing was found. You know how hard it is to explain others that you can't breath because of nothing that could be smelled by others!. Now, I hope I'll be fine again by quitting the Biotin capsules.
