Hello,
I feel for you - I had that kind of angina/ strep infection last winter (thank god it hasn't came back that bad ever since then). I could even take the antibiotics as pills but had to take penicillin shots. Only way I could eat anything if I took a painkiller, but than they messed my stomach ... you don't want that happening! Honestly, at one point, the pain was so bad I thought that was it for me.
But - 15 penicillin shots later, infection is completely gone, not even enlarged lymph node left. It took about 5 days so it became possible for me to eat something first before taking the pill and not cry from pain, and after that - week or so and I had no fever, pain was more like scratching and in two weeks it was all gone.
One thing that eases a pain a bit that's not painkiller I found was some super strong brand of lozenges - it had like lidocaine or something. If I hadn't had that, I'd probably starved to death. SO - try finding something like that, hang on, and if it helps you at least to type - I'm here,
Nicole
