I had Mirena placed a week ago as a last viable option before a hysterectomy due to dysmenorrhea. After myosure in February, cramps only escalated to pain. Mirena's placement has been the only change. My eating habits have remained the same and in one week I have lost 4 pounds for no reason.
OK Ladies, I have read many forums of this Mirina think. I talked to my gynecologist who simply said that any changes in your body , your body will react to it. Not having period and being on birth control inhibits your body's natural homeostasis and period cycle. She said that the Mirina ( hormonal changes )and possible changes in lifestyle can effect you gaining weight. Therefore the trade of for not having a period and not getting pregnant is gaining a bit of weight ,on average of 10 lbs , she said.Or that is partaning to my personal experience. I agree, she offered if I want to remove it , I can, but it's not proven it is like that with everyone. Birth control in general effects your natural hormonal levels. I hope this helps.

I am with you. It has been 2 years trying to loose weight my weight has always been 125 now with mirena I am up to 185 and I have always been active and I can not get rid of this weight. I am getting my mirena taken out soon. I hope these pounds drop. I also stay away from fast foods no sodas or coffees and eat very healthy no starches. I swear its this mirena .
I agree with you I got the Mirena a year-and-a-half ago I was 150 pounds I now weigh 180 fluctuating from 180 to 173 with exercise and dieting. I have never weighed this weight in my whole entire life. I never exercised never had to at the age of 40 I was 143 pounds. This is the weight after 40 no exercise and experimenting with different birth control contraceptives. I have never weighed over a hundred and twenty seven pounds until I start experimenting with different birth control methods. When I turned 40 I just figured I was getting my old age spread. The true reason I started using birth control methods it's because of my massive painful periods that I've had all my life. After getting the Mirena it helped me with my pain and made my periods lighter within the last year-and-a-half of having the Mirena I have gained over 35 pounds. At 9 months pregnant I was a hundred and 45 pounds when my son was delivered and he was 8 pounds and 9 ounces. I was 110 when I got pregnant and gained 35 pounds. I have never been a big eater I haven't eating pork in 30 years and I haven't eaten beef in 24 years. I'm not a snack either occasionally I eat snacks but I don't overindulge. So I know that this weight that I have gained extremely fast over a year-and-a-half had to have come from the Mirena although I have not had to exercise and be on diets. Now I find myself exercising dieting and nothing's happening my weight is in my stomach in my breast my breasts have never been this big in my legs a little I can see the difference I am bleeding for help because of the pain I have my period the extreme bleeding that cause me to be anemic I need help or have to remove the Mirena. I have best friends and family telling me to remove the Mirena but I don't think that they realized the pain in the medical problems I have with my period. One friend told me to get the scraping of the lining and I just wanted to make sure that if I do that that I don't have the same problems anyone that has any help or any suggestions or invite please let me know thank you.
I noticed the same thing. I had the Mirena for 3+ years. The last 4 months exercising like crazy and I couldn't loose not one pound it was crazy. Recently I had it pulled out... and within a month and half the exercise I feel about 5 lbs lighter. Look better too. I think weight gain and non weight loss is a real thing with mirena..
Hi there, just wondering how you are now? I was so frustrated I actually removed mine myself about 3 months ago. The weight around my middle still isn't going. I had a flatter abdomen 2 weeks after giving birth!
I have had mirena a little over a year now and the weight gain is crazy seems like no matter what I do.. I have a friend that got off Mirena and the weight just dropped off... So I'm getting mine removed. I have never been at this weight before...
how did you get on?
did taking it out work?
How did you do after the removal? I am having mine removed next week. Did weight watchers and been working out on a Peloton bike burning 600 calories a few times a week and lost NOTHING! I keep getting asked if i am having another baby with the abdominal bloating!
Had the mirena in nearly 7 months, and there are definite positives for me, zero cramping, zero period.. moving on to weight loss though, it's definitely tough, very tough, so tough that the foods I eat is this:
Ground up flaxseeds with unsweetened blueberries and a banana for breakfast - that or somedays to switch it up a homemade salad with an egg white that was cooked in a little bit of olive oil..
Lunch and dinner is purely home made salads... and home made salad dressing with no sugar or honey added... and also small portions of beef or lamb or salmon cooked throughout the week only cooked in small amounts of olive oil.. then for snacks only nuts and seeds and some fruit.. which I usually just have almonds or walnuts.. just what's in the house.
This with 3 litres of water with either cider vinegar or lemon (3 litres is the right amount for my weight and height)
Ontop of this 4 days a week I run 8km and to switch up runs.. pilates, pole fitness, mini trampoline, whatever ... I'm an exercise freak...
Guess what... my weight hasn't budged... I got the mirena 7 months ago... and I'm stuck at 74kg.. before I got the mirena I was 84kg.. with my life style I got my weight down to 74.. then got the mirena and it stayed there.. because of all my running and such.. my legs and arms and face.. get toned and lose weight - all of that.. but my belly is very bloated. Definitely considering removal
