I have the same problem, I spend hours at the gym and work in lots of cardio and I cant shed a pound! It's frustrating, I like the mirena. I just wish I could lose weight.
Hey!
Im the same havent had children but have the marina but ive put on weight and cant seem to loose it. Im dairy intollerant now and am eating healthy and am active every day but still nothing. I got the marina because i was anemic and its helped with that. Onto my second one now and im not like the side effects this time round..did you get any side effects like pelvic pain?

Hey i get those pains too..having an ultra sound done soon to figure out whats going on also have lost my stings and cant find them. This is my second marina and the insertion was soo painful i nearly passed out. Only reason i got it the first time was because i was anemic and it helped with that also havent had kids..thinking maybe i should get it removed..and just stick to condoms and see how my iron levels go.
I went on a diet for two weeks where I ate no carbs, no sweets, no junk. A ton of veggies, all healthy, didn't eat after 8 and didn't lose at all. I think mirena is keeping me from losing weight. I got mine put in a few months after having my son so maybe having kids then getting it does something to the hormones.
Not true I lost 20lb with the IUD
I have the iud and I have gained over 40lbs and my doc wants me to get it removed cz he said its the cause but it's the best thing so I'm in the same boat it's either gain weight or get pregnant again lol
I haven't. Keep in mind that most people come looking on online boards because they have had a side effect.
Ughhh I was told by everyone to get on the IUD it keeps you safe from getting pregnant.. But what They did not tell me is that A) you could put on alot of weight and B) it's near impossible to loose.... Before I went on it I was at 180 I'm taller and have a broad build so my weight always looked alright... I've been on this for 2 years and I've gained 50 POUNDS???? I've worked out religiously as I could while working and going to school but nothing and it keeps gaining??? I'm taking it out...so please give people a fair warning
I haven’t gained weight.i can’t gain or lose..no matter what I eat I’m still the same weight.
I had excessive bleeding for two months probably due to perimenopause last summer. My weight was already up a bit and I was working out & watching what I ate. The docs tried birth control pills to manage the bleeding. It abated somewhat but came back, so they inserted a Mirena IUD in July and gave me a battery of tests to make sure there was nothing cancerous or problems with my thyroid. My tests all came back clear. But within 2 weeks I gained 10 pounds. It’s now been 6 months and I’ve gained another 15 pounds despite working out with a trainer twice a week and no change to my diet. Now I am borderline obese and borderline hypertensive. I am scheduling removal of the IUD. I know weight gain is often seen in peri/menopause but this rapid weight gain is freaking me out. I will try to remember to update this.
I have gain weight and I have the Mirena in, However, I have lost 10 pounds but it's hard at time to keep losing weight. I has been going up and down.
I'm on Mirena number 2 since my 10yo was about a year and a half. I too went from 140s (146) to now 192. I'm disgusted with it. I eat right and exercise regularly. I just went through my drs visit logs and have come to the conclusion that with or rather since mirena I have gained around 10lbs a year. Also the hair loss and mood swings are insane. It's all adding up now. Really considering removing this thing now after reading through this thread. I still have another 2 years with this one but I cant handle another 20 lbs.
I did lose some weight after the first was removed. I did a year on nuvaring between but I had zero sex drive so went back to Mirena. I'm thinking it was a huge mistake.

I’ve had the Mirena for 2.5 years, I have had no children. For the first year I had no issues with the Mirena, however after that I started gaining weight, feel bloated all the time sometimes I look pregnant, I have never stored fat in my abdomen area until now, and get cramping pains constantly. I eat healthily, track my calories and follow a low carb, low fat, high protein diet and exercise regularly and cannot shift the weight at all. I will be getting my Mirena removed hopefully it’ll be good news afterwards
The truth is people or doctors will tell you it's not the Mirena but it is. Who else knows your body than yourself. If you have done everything without effort and lost weight and then all of the sudden you insert the mirena and follow the same rules or even More to loose weight and nothing works...then definitely it's the Mirena. I believe it's the Mirena in my case because I know how easy it is to loose weight when you diet and exercise but with Mirena all that is a wastage of time. I don't recommend Mirena and I am having it removed
Tomorrow will be 4 weeks since I had my Mirena removed, I had it in for a yr and half. And I've lost 14 lbs (starting at 164lb and 5'3) 6 of which came off within 36 hrs of removal so that was definitely water weight. My face and hand swelling went down and so did my blood pressure. I had constant pain and spotting while I was on it, so I would contribute my 20 lbs weight gain from not wanting to exercise (which caused major bleeding and cramps) and eating c**p cuz I felt like c**p. A few times I tried for months to cut calories by 1,000 which I did, yet nothing came off. I even cut my sugar to a quarter of what it was and calories the month prior to removal just to make sure I wasn't just blaming the mirena and the scale didn't budge. So in conclusion, I would say my body did not react kindly to the IUD. The loss of hair in the shower has dramatically lessened also. I don't want to scare anyone away from this form of BC because I know so many that love it but just be very aware of your own body and its responses if you do decide to have it inserted.
