I've had the Mirena almost a year and I hvnt had any complications. In fact, I lost 30 lbs using advocare, exercise, and clean eating.

Have any of you had weight loss after you took it out? I had mine put in 10months ago and have gained 25lbs, not to mention the crazy mood swings and now the painful ovarian cysts. I just want my jeans to fit again :(

Sorry but I have stuck with lean protein and veggies & fruit and even done 2 a day workouts with minimum results. I'm thinking it's the iud and considering taking it out.

i am 34 and on my third Mirena. The first two were okay all side effects leaving by one month in.
Now this third one I have weight gain and mood swings which i didnt get before. I workout six days a week and eat clean so i can only assume its the IUD. Im really disappointed.

I have HAD it with this Mirena! I got it three years ago because my periods were so heavy it was like a crime scene every time I used the bathroom when I was menstruating. Sorry to be so graphic, but that's why I resorted to the IUD. It literally changed my life as far as the menstrual flow goes -- which is almost non-existent.

As for the weight: before I got the IUD, I went to my regular doctor to get phentermine because I wanted to drop about 10 pounds. I had used phentermine before and had always reached my goal, even if it took a while. So, I started the Rx and dropped three pounds in a month. THEN I GOT THE IUD. And the weight loss stopped. I maintained my weight for about a month and then it started creeping up. And it hasn't stopped since. I've put on 12-14 pounds (depending on the day/hour) since I got this thing.

I work out at my gym (bootcamps/zumba/weights/elliptical/bike) 4 days a week and go for walks or bike on other days. I break my diet when I go out with friends, but it's not like it's a smorgasboard free-for-all -- we're talking I have two margaritas and some chips. Well, that little indiscretion will cost me 4 pounds (my body grabs on to the water weight like my life is depending on it!). Then I'm back at the gym killing myself taking two classes and pressing weights.

My regular doctor didn't believe me when I said last year that I thought it was the IUD. He thought I wasn't working out as much or was eating more than I said I was. The thing is: I work from home and my eating is very regulated. I don't go out to lunch with friends or have dinner meetings full of fattening foods. He finally went through his computer records to see when I started with him and when I got the IUD -- THEN he acknowledged that the IUD MIGHT be playing a part.

I'm quite worried about what will happen when I have the IUD taken out. But I'm hoping that I'm old enough now (I'll be 52 in a few months) that my period won't resume the way it had been three years ago. But for someone who has had a lifelong struggle with body image, this has been beyond frustrating and upsetting. I plan to have it removed. And I'll lose my mind if this weight doesn't come off!!

I've had my Mirena for 3 years gained 15 pounds in the 1 year and 6 my second year and now my 3 year (now) I stared exercising 6 days a week. I do cycling 4 days a week and weight 2 days a week. I changed my diet completely. Only eat meat (ground turkey or chicken breast )1 day a week. I mainly eat natural food. I've lost 24 pounds since December 2015 and I still have the Mirena. I still plan on taking it out at my next annual appointment but I had to completely change my life in order to lose weight while on this.
