No it doesn't stop working BUT you might have the side effects with it, so be careful. Honest, you might not even feel like doing it! Try not to think that you WILL try to think that you MIGHT! It's a lot easier then to change your mind!

yea thats true. basically i just want my mood to change based on what happens around me, i dont want it changing by itself, thats what sucks. now i was reading this thing about people taking zoloft. some of them said it makes their emotions "flat" what do they mean by this, is this possible that it will happen to me?

I've never heard of Zoloft making someone FLAT!!!! That's weird, remember what I said about not reading things though? You can get ahold of REALLY NEGATIVE and MISINFORMED information! Zoloft is one of the BEST medications for someone with depression, you have already started feeling better right? So that is proof of it working! So STOP STOP STOP reading those sites OK?!!! 8-| ;-) XD Your mood will just be normal! You will laugh when you're supposed to be laughing and be pissed when you are supposed to be pissed! It's not like you will be like this :-D o.O When stuff is happening around you!! So don't worry about some "stranger" announcing that they have this and that! I swear honey, if you look hard enough you will find someone that has reactions like that to oranges!!!!! HONESTLY!!! So just get out there and have regular fun, and everything else WILL be normal!

ok ok thanks, but i have also been noticing this other problem even before i started the meds. i've realized that girls dont turn me on as much as they used to. it sounds weird but even watching porn isnt the same as it was. i feel like when i masturbate, i dont even acheive a FULL erection and its taking longer than usual to ejaculate. is this only happening because i'm worrying about it or is it something further in detail? i apoligize for how wierd it sounds but this is me and when i have a problem, i will share it

Depression consists of just total FLAT reaction to ANY stimuli! Including sex! So that is dead on for what you were diagnosed with. I am sure infact POSITIVE that you WILL become "normal" in that area soon. Sexual stimuli is also connected to seratonin levels. That's why some believe in having sex to stop pain. So in about a week or so, you WONT have any problems there as well. Just like I said before hon, you will laugh when somethings funny, be sad when something is upsetting and you know what when something is "exciting" ;-) XD

thank you. however, i hope i will be normal in that area, but i'm fairly certain sexual side effects are very common for zoloft, i DO NOT want my sex drive to be gone and certainly don't want ED

I think that you should be okay, but if it doesn't work the way you want it to, then you can switch to a different AD. Zoloft works well, but if it does hurt your sex drive, ask to be put on another. Let go of the worries!! There's answers for everything, okay? :) How are you doing?

Zoloft along with many other anti-depressants will make you feel "flat" meaning that you are more calm and not as easily excited as before. A loss of sex drive is very common while taking anti-depressants. But trying different types of anti depressants you may find one will have less of an effect with your sex drive than another.

I've been on Paxil for many years and this has been my experience. Though some of the side effects are not so nice on these types of meds I feel, at least for me, taking them is still worth it.

Personally I think this is why there are so many different types of anti depressants. I felt a THOUSAND times better on one - that I'm on now - than I did before. I have NO problems with any emotions. Just give it a try and relax about it first Whoopdawg OK?

Everyone is different, and I am sure your doctor perscribed the right one for you! Just give it a chance first! You have already stated that you are feeling better, so let that be your guide OK? It's not a calmer, it's just an evener - IF that's a word LOL!!!! ;-)

i saw the dr. again today and he was thrilled to hear that the medicine has been doing its job. i asked him if smoking could ever react with zoloft in a negative way. he said what most parents would want to hear is that it does, however, he said it does not affect zoloft in the slightest way. he did say however, that its not the actual high, but further after smoking or when it leaves ur body is where a small amount of people can become depressed. he said that if this happened to me the zoloft wouldn't really help it. so i'm really not sure what i'm going to do. i think what i'll do is experiment. i'm gonna wait until maybe a few weeks from now. hopefully if i'm feeling normal and good through all of them, i will try smoking, and... if i notice any change in mood days after smoking, i will clearly know what is causing my downs, the POT. so consider it more of an experiment. what do u think the chances are that i will become depressed a few days after smoking and what are the chances that the zoloft will be able to help that depression or not. what will overpower what?

What you really have to ask yourself is this! Everyone is happy that these pills are working for you, and you have to wonder why you are willing to take the chance of even not feeling good again? Why are you putting smoking up over being up?! You have mentioned MANY times about smoking dope, and you were worried about the affects of the anti depressants on the dope itself and vica versa! Did you tell your doctor that you think about smoking up a lot of the time? Smoking up or getting drunk is a lifestyle choice for you right? It's not an addiction etc. BUT your depression is a health issue, so why would you want to "experiment" with a lifestyle choice against your health? It's your choice if you want to take the chance or not!! But I think after EVERYTHING you have talked about and sought questions too, and received help for, it would be an ABSOLUTE mistake for taking the chance and bringing you back down again.!

i do agree with you, however, its just that i want to live my high school life without restrictions, or worries. i want to be able to drink or smoke and not worry about what it does to me because normally when people do them a very few amount of times nothing happens. i just want to be normal and be able to do these things w/o having to worry about what the effect on me is. because like i said thats the person i USED to be. i wasn't an alcoholic and certainly not a pothead, i was a person who would be able to do those things becuase they didnt affect my sober life, i didnt have to worry about what they did to me afterwards because they DIDNT do anything. i just want to go back to that lifestyle. and plus, if i go a while feeling good and then i try the pot, and it brings me down, i will CLEARLY know that thats the cause, which would make me obviously not do it anymore, cuz as of now, the likely cause is some sort of chemical imbalance. and if i smoke after feeling good for a few weeks, and a few days after i smoke i get down again, SMOKING is OBVIOUSLY the cause. as of now i have no idea what the cause is and i feel like my job is to figure out what the hell it is

I totally hear what you're saying, so don't think I'm not when I say this, but you're just in the process of growing up. Worries are a part of life. A lot of people your age don't worry about what happens to them and you know what happens? A lot of teens get pregnant, get hurt, get killed, all because they dont' want to worry about things. I understand, but you're growing up. You're becoming more mature. Please understand that even though it's frustrating, it's the way life is. Does that make sense? Does that help a little?
