OMG...I was really feeling down on myself about the weight gain since my gallbladder removal a year ago.  Reading these stories has helped knowing I'm not going crazy!  Thanks to everyone!!!  I'm going to do even more research now on what may be some things I can do to help with the weight gain, nausea, bloating and bowel issues.  May try digestive enzymes.  Fingers crossed!

I had my gallbladder out a year ago and have packed on the pounds. I eat healthy and exercise but can't stop gaining weight. I never had this problem before my surgery. Even trying to drop 5 pounds has been impossible. My stomach is also VERY bloated and I look 6 months pregnant. I am so frustrated and don't know what to do. I feel lousy, tired and "foggy" every day as well. I just read about Bile Salts but my doctor has never even heard of them. Please let me know how this diet that you are on is working for you.
Thanks!

I am having the same problem. My doctor NEVER said anything about weight gain and continues to say that its not a side effect from gallbladder removal! That is complete BS! I am active and eat very healthy and am still gaining weight. I don't know what to do!

Hello,

Just wanted to check to ask if you had any luck losing weight after you started on the digestive enzymes ?

I was wondering if you had any success, I have been trying different bile salts and replacements for a bit, and really just end up with a more upset stomach. I have never had weight issues until my gallbladder came out, unfortunately for me it was in the way during a surgery so was removed. Would love any advice

I hear what you saying making sense. Wondering if the b12 is the solution. I am also wondering if one would blood test liver enzymes after removal if the gall if they would find it elevated due to the strain of the liver taking over some of the work metabolising fat this can also be A cause for gaining weight . Goggle elevated liver enzymes and weight gain. Ones this hapens the body would think it needs to metabolise glucose for energy ( as fat is being stored in liver body thinks that it's loosing the ability to burn energy from ketones) so when eating what ever healthy or otherwise high insullin would be produced to compasait resulting in storing fat. This is my theory . Regards david

Hi Everyone! I had my gallbladder removed in 2009 due to stones getting caught in my common duct and causing pancreatitis. Prior to this ER trip and A week long hospital stay, I was a healthy 32 y/o woman. After my gallbladder was removed and they let me out of the hospital, I immediately experienced gas, bloating, dumping, lack of energy, foggy head, hormone fluctuations, etc. I had also gained approximately 25 lbs in three months time. None of these symptoms stopped or slowed down at all. I tried changing my diet to several different types, but no matter what I ate, I had all the same symptoms and I was progressively getting worse. Five months post surgery after a horrible visit with my Dr. where she proceeded to tell me all this was either my fault, or my imagination, I decided to do some research myself. I came across alot of people in the same boat with no answers or there would be crazy cleanses or weird medications. (Side note: I am not one to do or digest anything that does not logically make sense to me and I hate taking medications of any type.) I did finally come across one answer that wasn't some weird, extreme method. DIGESTIVE ENZYMES. I ran to Walmart and picked up a bottle of Spring Valley Multi-Digestive Enzymes with Probiotics. I started taking them immediately and within a week I was back to my normal self. No bloating, no diarrhea four times a day, no stomach aches, my energy came back, my head became clear again. The weight took a little longer to shed off. Probably in a year's time I was back to my pre surgery weight. My theory is, and to this day continues to be, I am unable to properly digest my food without my gallbladder, therefore I take digestive enzymes to help out. I take them with every meal without fail. I have over the last six years attempted to eat without them and find that all the same symptoms return. So I have just resorted to the fact that I will be taking these forever. There are several brands of digestive enzymes out there. I have tried many of them. Some work better than others. I have stuck to the brand I mentioned above because they seem work the best for me and they happen to be the cheapest too. I'm thinking they work best because they contain several different digestive enzymes for all types of foods. Not just fat or protein or carbs. They cover all categories of food. Since my surgery and the newly discovered digestive enzymes, four woman that I know personally, and two others that are a friend of a friend all have had their gallbladders removed and all of these woman have had the same issues. They have all taken my suggestion of trying out digestive enzymes, and all of them have reported back with great results. I hope this post reaches as many gallbladderless people as possible, so they too might try digestive enzymes out. I occasionally continue to browse the topic to see what has been happening in the gallbladder world and to throw out my experience into the world with hopes that maybe it will help someone else out. I know I would be in really bad shape today had I not come across a post that suggested digestive enzymes six years ago. Please know, you are not alone in your suffering and I hope you all find relief and your "normal" soon. And if by chance digestive enzymes work for you, please share your story. Maybe one day it gets listed on the Dr.'s "to-do list" to inform post surgery patients to try them out. God Bless!
