i started gaining the weight the moment my gall bladder started to act up and it hasnt stopped i have watched everything i eat i work out all the time and to no avail. There is tons of info regarding weight gain after the gall bladder removal. Just no clear answer as to what to try. If you read the above posts you will see some people have tried everything to lose this weight. Sorry you dont see it like the rest of us do. But not everything is all about your eating habits sometimes it is that your gall bladder is gone and your body isnt working the same it used to. Some of us eat halthy exercise and have tried everything under the sun.

i really don't think that this was a necessary thing to write : "And to the VERY FEW lucky ones proclaiming they lost weight or maintained their weights after having their gallbladder out: congratualtions, and consider yourself abnormal. This is not the norm. We are happy for you, but do not need your weight loss thrown in our face and your self proclaiming medical advice of "it must just be what we are eating." Does it make you feel better to bring people to tears that are struggling with their weight for no known reason? Since your body has adjusted so well after having your GB removed, that may suggest your liver is already working too hard to compensate. Be prepared for colitis, ulcers, and bile stones in your liver later on in life"

its unfortunate that others gain weight due to GB removal. In most cases people have struggled to loose weight due to having GB problems. Once the surgery was completed most individuals tend to loose weight rather then gain.

BUT

If your an obese individual that has struggled with weight majority of your life then you shouldn't expect a GB removal to help you with weight lose...its up to you to make that weight loose happen.

I have been struggling to lose weight after gallbladder removal for about five years now. I have tried every bile salt, digestive enzyme, and low fat diet known to mankind. I recently started the keto diet (on May 17, 2016) and have lost 14lbs so far. I have not felt this good in years. I never tried this diet because it requires you to eat high fat, low carb, and moderate protein. I was advised to eat a low fat diet after the removal. Well this life changing keto diet has been a life saver. It wasn't even difficult to start because you can eat enough to be stuffed and satisfied. I do miss bread but I make a cheat day that I eat whatever I want. I usually don't eat much on my cheat day because my body doesn't like the unhealthy foods. I promise this diet has done amazing things for me. I can't say it will do the same for everyone but from what I have heard, everyone who gets on this train, loses rapidly. Also...you get to eat mayo, cheese, and real butter along with all kinds of foods that have been deemed a big NO NO. My favorite food is a huge cheese burger wrapped in red leaf lettuce with mayo. I've never gotten to eat that on a freakin diet before. I actually ate one for breakfast yesterday and then had cheese for a snack followed by a huge chicken leg quarter with asparagus and sautéed mushrooms for dinner....AND GUESS WHAT!!! I LOST MORE WEIGHT!! WooHoo!!!

Please help! I have been having the same issues! Before I had my gallbladder out I weighed 125lbs after having 3 kids & in my 30's. It has been 2 years since I have had it out and I have gained 25 pounds !!! Prior to removing the gallbladder I was always underweight had a hard time keeping on weight and could eat whatever I wanted. I voice been very active and eat semi-healthy. Now that I have had my gallbladder out I've change my diet but I keep gaining weight no matter what I do! This has nothing to do with eating too much or their own food! It is clearly because I do not have my gallbladder there has to be some help out there and some studies done To help! I never should have gotten my gallbladder removed! Any one else with this problem?! Please help!

Thank you so much for explaining this, and for the encouragement. I'm now a 35 year old woman. Up until 2 years ago I was always between 130-145 pounds up and down no more or no less. I've been that size since I was 17 years old. During my pregnancy I only gained 20 pounds, and shed it as quick as I gained it. I'm now 2 years post surgery and I'm 210 pounds!!! I cry constantly! I'm so self conscious about myself. None of my clothes fit, and up until recently I REFUSED to purchase any because I kept telling myself I'll loose the weight, and if I purchase any clothes that's telling myself I'm comfortable at this weight and it's okay. It's not okay. I quit drink pop, I eat no junk food, fast food, or fried foods, sweets, cut carbs, exercise twice a week, eat small portions, and watch everything I put into my body, and not only have I NOT lost any weight I continue to gain. I'm so unhappy with myself. I don't know what else to do, or where else to turn until I read your post. The first thing I'm doing tomorrow morning is finding one of the GB removal diet kits to see that will help me on top of everything else I've been doing. Thank you so much!!

Thanks for this. I never had trouble with my weight until I had mine removed in my early 30's. Ever since I have struggled getting fatter by the year it's so upsetting. I look pregnant. The doctors said I would lose weight afterwards. Nothing helps.

This post is a lot of non-factual mumble jumble. Gastric Bypass patients often have their gallbladders removed when the Gastric bypass is performed due to rapid weight loss causing gallstones. They don't stay obese or gain weight. Many like myself gallbladders were not producing gall before removal, yet the liver was providing the same amount to the stomach it does before the gallbladder surgery clamps the ducts to the gallbladder after removal.
I'm thinking if you had your gallbladder removed 10 years ago, it is your lower metabolism due to increased age, not the gallbladder that is responsible for weight gain.
Hormonal changes, life stress, change in physical activity, love life, age, emotional health, mindless instead of mindful eating all play major rolls.

So basically , don't eat anything ! I was always thin before surgery, now I'm gaining a pound a week and eating no fat , no much of anything , really. I'm bloated, I'm fat, I hurt, my feet are always cold and the muscle aches were awful for 2 months. I'm pretty miserable and no one seems to care much.

Your story sounds exactly like mine. About the same starting weight too! I've gained 10 lbs and I'm starving. I didn't eat a lot before and now I'm afraid to eat much at all because my stomach is fat . I look like I'm pregnant and no one seems to have any answers. Not my doc anyway. So frustrated and depressing
