I am a hairstylist and i go through the same thing but at different times, it is called Aleopicia (meaning hair loss). Not a good feeling at all. How old are you? Did you just have a Baby? Are you under a lot of Stress? But one big factor could be your Thyroid, so a good star would be a Dermatologist, they are the ones who deal with this and get some blood work. I have been doing hair for 25 years I am 46 and my hair loss started on and off in my later 20's, there are great products out there and one of them is a line called NIOXEN, it's whole line but you can only buy it from professional Hair Salons and it ain't cheap but I have been using it for years. I can't stress more...VITAMINS!!! Good Luck

you need to figure out whether you are experiencing thinning hair, or hair loss disorder. Get your friend or family to flip your hair up and see what's the problem.

If it's thinning hair, perhaps your scalp is oily or genetic? That is still a relatively minor problem... something that can be solved with shampoo and hair treatment... maybe some alternative method like using onion or ginger to stimulate hair growth.

If you're having alopecia areata (go google for pic), then it's a different issue. I'm having that now (for a month) and I'm still researching for alternative treatments because the only thing docs know is to ask me to take steriod which totally screws up my body and I've since stopped.

I'm only 14 & I'm loosing a whole lot of hair every time I brush it. It's like a mess because my hair is everywhere. What does it mean?

Some girls experience hair problems during puberty. It doesn't necessarily mean you're going to loose it. I had a lot of hairproblems back then too.

Hi, Gisselle. Yes even if it's not common it's known that some people loose hairs during puberty. It's of course especially true for boys, but girls may be affected too. I read 1 boy out of 6 and 1 girls out of 20 experiences it, and these figures are increasing but just the way balding in general is getting more common more early It doesn't mean you're going to be bald though don't be afraid. I'm male and I lost hair on my temples between age 15 and 17, it was part of my puberty process. Today I'm 34 and I've still got pretty full hair in the front of my head. (I'm balding on top but even that started only after I turned 30.) So this is probably just your body adapting to hormonal change. On the other hand my girl has never had any hairproblems when she was adolescent but she started loosing hair when she was in her mid-20ies. Now women never loose all of their hair not even on top it's not like us men but their hair can get quite thin and hers has gotten to the point where you can really see though everywhere and there's a triangle from the front to the middle of her head where when you see it from a distance you have the feeling she's got nothing left. But you see this was unrelated to any adolescent hairloss so don't worry.

Hi Gisselle yes this is what puberty may do for you but you should be ok. I don't know about the 1 girl out of 20, back then I was told it was more about 1 out of 100 or even 200 and it's more a thing for 16-17 year olds when the last body hair grows and it all gets fixed. Your hairloss seems to be unrelated to virilization so don't worry.

normal process, most boys will lose some hair during puberty, it's mostly the one on the temples which will get bald in order to achieve the normal hairline of an adult man. it doesn't mean you're going to be bald any time soon, general balding and balding of the temples may be completely unrelated. I didn't know when I was adolescent and I was scared but I lived with a full head of hair for a lot of years after puberty, it was only when I was in my mid-30 ies that general thinning set in on the top of my head and it was not until a couple of years later that I developed a bald spot

Your body changes and hormones are fooling around. Losing hair during puberty is not the normal thing I agree but it's part of those things that just happen. Since you're a girl chances are it will stop and if you have lost a significant amount of hair it will grow back. But it may also be that you're in for some serious trouble. Maybe it would be best if a doctor had a look at it. Hair's a b***h sometimes. My mum's bald, she lost it all when she was 13, due to alopecia totalis, and for a long time I lived with the fear of following suit. When I turned 15 I actually started losing hair and we rushed to the doctor's and it was not alopecia areata nor anything but I had hormones test and I got on pills and it stopped. But then I stopped the medication and all went well for a few years but when I was in my 20s I developed male pattern baldness which triggered distress which triggered... guess what? Alopecia. So here I am just like my mum.

Gisselle,
first thing is first, just because you have a great deal of hair in brush when u brush your hair, it doesn't mean you are losing your hair or it is thinning at all. Its normal actually.
We shed thousands or hair in a day. its also quite common to lose hir in the shower, especially after using conditioner. What I would be concerned with is if you find yourself losing a fist full in the shower, if you develop bald spots or lose clumps on your pillow.

You indicted you were 14, if you feel you are losing hair then first it would be important to identify your hair type. If you have fine and thin hair all at once its easier to think u are losing it.
Next I would look at your diet. Given your age I would definitely order a blood test to look at your iron and hemoglobin levels. Sometimes many girls your age find themselves skipping a lot of meals and not getting enough iron, you could just be low in iron, which can cause you to shed more hair then youd like. Also if you do end up needing to take an iron supplement its important to never take it with any milk products as it will hamper your body from absorbing it. ITs always good to take iron with a glass of oj or some thing with vitamin c to help the body absorb.

Also b vitamins are very important as sometimes if you are lacking in a vitamin b your body will not be able to absorb the iron at all. so things have to be looked at.

when taking supplements for your hair biotin and and zinc are also key candidates to look for a healthy head of hair. its always important to make sure to mention to your Doctor everything you take as some vitamins and supplements are useless if you take them together and others are not good for you if you do,
Spirulina is a great supplement and its a plant proteins that also gives you some greens and its great for healthy hair as well. Vitamin C and and Vitamin D are also very important to include your diet to maintain healthy bodies skin hair and nails. and what is hair? just dead skin that never stops growing when its still there .:) Vitamin D drops are essential especially in the winter. its always healthiest to get your nutrients from healthy foods, but again its not always the norm with teenage girls so its important to maintain your nutrient intake from vitamins and supplements if need be. it takes a few months to see results from vitamins in your blood test and in your physical health and appearance.

Sometimes for teenage girls a monthly period can mean too much blood loss which can also lead to iron deficiency or anemia so getting that iron is important. Stress and hormones can also cause hair to fall out more then average sometimes too.

its also very important to look at how you treat your hair, When your hair is wet you should never brush it but use a wide toothed comb if possible or pick. its never a good idea to pull wet hair back into a pony tail and its NEVER good to sleep with a pony tail or bun in, as tis will lead to your hair being pulled and then breaking off. If you wear your hair in the same pony a lot of a tight updo, bun or pony this can also lead to the hair being pulled out of the follicle or breaking off and then seeming like u are losing it all at once when u brush it . If you have longer hair the best ting to keeo it healthy and strong is to braid it before bed. Your hair will thank you for it. Also a scalp scrub a few times a week can do wonders for your hair as well as scalp massage or shampoo brush . Its a good idea to google how to use if you haven't before so you use the brush correctly for best results. Also blow drying your hair, using a round brush, and blow drying upside down or drying it in large curlers can also create great volume for the appearance of thicker hair. Volumizing mousse is amazing as well,

And I should nt have to tell you but the less sugar , alcohol or drugs you do and the more water you drink the better your hair will be as well.

There are many chronic illnesses that can contribute to hair loss but i wont get into them because you are 14 and it would not be beneficial to you to have you stressing over a bunch of thing you os likely don't have . if you have concerns after everything I've mentioned here your Doctor can always look at other factors and and variables with you as well as any symptoms you may have also.

Nothing that you apply topically to your hair or scalp with ever make your hair grow or healthier. it has to come from within. So dont believe the hype and save your money especially at your age. There few products out their that have been oven in clinical trials to help with hair growth but as soon as you stop using them that will stop too. SO very not worth it your age. Hair masks can help hair becmoe more manageble and appear more healthy looking.

you can also google the hair strand test to test your hairs porousness and density in a glass of water. ios kind of cool! Never leave a conditioner in your hair for longer then it says because some may actually contain products that candy it out if left on too long. Same goes for the sun keep your hair out of it when u can or covered . and your skin, Your body will thank u years down the road when u are still glowing with soft beautiful skin and others have turned themselves to leather haha.

Every now and then you can use equal parts of apple cider vinegar ( or any vinegar) and rinse your hair with-it for a healthy shiny hair detox.

i hope any of this helps you at all. Take care !
