OMG, I am in the same predicament. I had several large stones removed almost two weeks ago from my left kidney (reoccurring stones) and a stent was place in me. I am constantly in pain, constantly have the urge to wee and am pushing so hard that I have had a head ache for the last 3 days, I have tears rolling down my face as the pain is so bad. I have not been able to go back to work! I have the stent taken out in another 2 weeks time and I don't know how I'm gonna last that long? The only pain relief I was given on discharge was Paracetamol & Ibuprofen, nothing to help with the irritation this stent is causing me! I feel you pain.

I'm having the same problems. I'm 19 years old and this is my third time with kidney stones. The last time I had them I strained my urine for weeks and never physically saw a stone pass, the pain just went away. This past August I was walking around Boston and the pain came back and was off and on for almost 3 months without the doctors knowing what it was. It's now November and I had a stent put in last week for my 8mm stone and it was in a spot they couldn't reach. I go back in two weeks to have it blasted and the stent removed, which makes no sense to me. I'm on day 5 and the pain is still unbearable. I can't stand long enough to go to school or work and the pain meds only work sometimes. I'm crying constantly and can't do anything fun with my boyfriend or friends that you would do at this age. My doctor didn't come in to talk to me after the procedure and didn't warn me of what to do if it felt like this. I feel like I'm overreacting but it hurts so bad!!! Everyone keeps telling me I need to get up and move but it's hard to for more than 30 minutes. Is the pain ever gonna get better??

Thank you...very helpful as I had a horrible day of pain yesterday. I used wraps to wrap around my midsection as to hold the stent in place...it helped some! The tramadol has helped with pain and discomfort with Extra strength Tylenol...I am in day 3 after the surgery.

Hi
Had a 25mm stone lasered last week and though I had discomfort things were going ok, until yesterday when the pain in my lower abdomen was unbearable. I think the stent to my bladder is either blocked or something is amiss as the pain can be relentless. The GP will only prescribe a painkiller and say it is part of the progress but honestly the pain was on par with when I actually had a stone trying to make its way down from the kidney into my bladder.
Is this normal and part of the healing process?? Did not think I would still be off work and literally writhing in pain...

Hello All,

I had liposopy shock wave surgery to break up a 6mm stone and a 5mm stone on the upper left side of my kidney about 3 weeks ago.

I was first hospitalized at an inexperienced hospital prior to the surgery for about 1 week and half trying to get a UTI under control.

I was released from the hospital after they managed to control the pain and UTI and was referred to see a Urologist. I began doing my research and learned New York Weil Cornell on 6th street had experienced doctors who specialized in Kidney stones.

I met with the doctor for and he explained the procedure. Overall, the procedure took about 2 1/2 hours. A stent was inserted under general asethetics.

I woke with very little pain but noticed blood and small clots which lasted for two days.

Being a domesticated personal I wanted to do my chores around the house and drive. Big mistake, I started to feel more pain and my bleeding which had subsided started again.

I had to then rely on the oxocodine to help control the pain. It worked and I was able to rest.

Just remember pain can be from 5-10 so always made sure to have pain killers available.
Drink plenty of water which helps flush urine to push out smaller stones.

Stent removal was a 5 out 10 however the urgency to urine subsided in a day but the soreness in my left flank continued for a about a week. Be prepared to take 1 week home for surgery and full day for stent removal.

I take 1-2 percocets a day because of coronic pain. I think when I pass them it makes me itch & burn as if I have a yeast infection. I've battled UTIs & urethra infection most of my life & have pain in that area a lot. Plus i feel like I have an infection but I don't. Can percs make a person feel those symptoms down there?

I had my stent put in Monday! Started feeling bad in the way home. The pain became unbearable. I had to go to the ER pain was causing me to Vomit! I never had pain like this in my life. Waited forever in the ER! Finally received IV pain meds. I haven't been to work on a week and my surgery to remove the stones isn't til Feb 27th. I'm trying to go back to work on Monday. My doctor told me this isn't normal. Sorry I had to go to the ER! I sure hope they keep me in the hospital the day of the surgery. Especially going through this. Nothing helps. Pain pills ware off. And I'm not a pill popper. Trying to deal with the pain and discomfort. Never again!!

Wow, now someone to relate to...... my stone was 1.3CM. I have had LOTS of pain too that comes and goes.. My first stint was finally removed 2 and a half weeks post op. I felt much better but gradually felt worse and worse. Had an ultrasound.... it showed a blockage and hydronephrosis. Had a renal scope and they put in another stint. Dr says there is swelling and irritation at the bottom of the ureter where it meets the bladder so it would not let the urine thru. This stint is to stay in 4 weeks he said, to give it more time to heal, but the nurse called now and booked stint removal at 2 and a half weeks! I told her the Dr. said 4 weeks and she just says "oh well, its spring break so no one will be here to do it then." I really don't know what to think. Sure, I would love to have the stint removed early but not if its just for the Dr's convience if it isn't healed enough and I have more problems later. My abdomen is sore and swollen and my legs too; they feel like they are full of fluid. Any advice is appreciated. Kidney stones and stints are so much more painful than anyone tells you before hand.
