Wow... I’m 16 years old and I am a female. A week ago I found out that I had 1 5mm stone in my right kidney and a 3mm stone in my left kidney. I was on hydrocodone for the whole week but the pain was just too bad so the doctors suggested I get 2 stents (1 stent placed in each ureter). I got the surgery yesterday and I pee every hour and throw up right after or throw up if I eat or drink ANYTHING. The doctors gave me more hydrocodone prescriptions but that does not help the back pain where my kidneys are located or the pain in the area where my bladder is located. When they put the stents in they did not take out either of the stones and in 2-3 weeks I have to go back and get the stents taken out hoping that the stones have passed by then. I’m in a lot of pain and just wanting to know if anyone can help tell me when I’ll be back to normal from this first surgery?
that pain is normal. nothing to worry. its bcoz the stent backpressures urine back to kidney. thats the reason you have pain. and this pain is temporary for 5 to 10 minutes after passing urine. dont worry as soon as your stent is removed the pain will dissappear. this is my experience. m not just saying like that only. i have experienced that.
I'm like you i have just got home and the kidney pain when urination comes on is excruciating. Thought it might be a relief but seems like it will be a longer road yet.
I had surgery in September to remove a 23mm stone out of my left kidney. They went thru my back to remove it. After 1 night in the hospital I was released with only spasm medicine and weak ass Tylenol 3. I had a stent in the left kidney so small particles could pass properly, and they put a stent in the right side too because I had an 8mm stone that was about to pass. When I went back to doctor 1 week after that surgery, he removed both stents...that was no fun as you are fully awake for the removal. I also have a 26mm stone in the so they were going to do that kidney in November. In the meantime, early October, I have to be taken to the hospital from work as the 8mm stone was stuck, so I had to have surgery, and they placed a stent again. Fast forward to my surgery in November for the right side, that one didn't go so well. They were not able to remove the whole stone and I had some serious bleeding. this time they didn't want to put a stent as they wasted to let the kidney recoup. Needless to say, 5 days after that surgery, I found myself taking a ride to the ER again. A 6mm stone had broken off of what was left of the 26mm stone and got stuck halfway down.
Oh my god! I had a 5mm stone removed that was giving me some pain form time to time but nothing could of prepared me for the pain after the surgery due to stent. I have had the stent now for 3 days and I was in tears today and as a 45 year old man crying in front of your wife and kids isn’t a smart thing to do. I don’t know how much more I can deal with this pain and I have 7 more days to go.
On the way home from the hospital I didn’t have any pain but once I got home, WHAM! As soon as I ‘peeed’ the first time my kidney (or bladder) clamped down like it was world war 3 inside of me. Now every time I ‘pee’ my pain level shoots to a 10. The pain stays for about 5-10 minutes and it goes back to a 5. The pain pills don’t help at all but caused severe constipation and super super sever has pains! The gas pains were actually worse than the kidney pain. I wish someone would of told me that I needed to take a ‘laxative’ because the gas pains had me on all 4’s butt naked in front of my entire family. Even laughing is painful.
Let’s recap:
My stent will be in place for 10 days and the pain has been on an off. When I urinate the pain level is a 10 and lasts for 5-10 minutes. I am in a ton of pain and am very upset. The only good news is the doctor was able to rip out the 5mm stone and also Laser a smaller stone inside of my kidney.

I have one in right now I also did not know the pain that came with having this today it’s been a week and I feel pain like the first day. Today it actually feels like it wants to come out a little sharp pin feeling
3 days after having a 1.4 cm kidney stoneblasted with holmium laser, fragments removed and stent inserted ,i had such EXTREME pain that over a 3 hr period it took a 10 mg oxycodone as well as 2x 5 mg oxycodone as well as 2 tablets of 2 mg each hydromorphone. I have had kidney stones 21 times over last 20 years, always managed to pass smaller stones but this one was quite large and had to be lasered. I cannot imagine that any kind of torture could possibly inflict any more pain than this. I was not prepared for or told of the agony that could follow. Again i am no novice to pain, 21 previous stones and pain was excruciating BUT NOT like this
Hi
I have had a stent in for over 2 months now and find it is uncomfortable but you kind of get used to it.
The pain in my right side is still pretty sore 5 days after op and I also recommend ibruprofen to help pain. I can also sympathise re the constipation which adds to the pressure and pain. Also make sure you get an x ray to check all stone gone as I have had operation twice now as not all stone removed first time.

I had a 1.5 cm stone blasted on Friday and I knew from previous experience that the stent was going to be a nightmare, it is now Monday and I need this thing out. I’m crying all the time in pain and helplessness. They really need to figure something else to use
Vomiting after kidney stent placement ?
I am going through all the same. Stent is almost intolerable. I am worried about the water weight gain and my tummy is so tender I just start shaking and can not stop. Toradol and Lortab help but make me feel sicker. Day 4 I think I will stay in bed today.
same hear , im in a lot of pain , stones are all gone as of 4 days ago after laser, just waiting to get stent removed. Had to get an ambulance a day ago for 10/10 pain, was in extreme pain for over an hour until paramedic gave morphine. after a ct scan doctor told me the stent had moved causing the extreme pain. but it had corrected itself again. THIS IS HELL!
6 weeks of pain and counting!
