I had mine done a while ago.
It had the same thing. Dont worry about it, your going to want to pull it off( it wont hurt) and get rid of it, its just the excess tissue that was pushed forward when you had it pierced.

it might be infected in which case you want to be very careful with it. try not to consume anything really ACIDIC like citrus fruits or tomato products, also avoid BEER if you can. don't eat YOGURT, as it contains live enzymes that can cause problems, though frozen yogurt is fine. also, SUCK ON ICE all the time, it really help with the swelling, i'm actually sucking on an ice cube right now hah
one last thing, rinsing with mouthwash is very helpful, but it is best to use an ALCOHOL-FREE, if you do not have any, just take your regular mouthwash and mix half water with it every time you use it

i hope this helps :]

it's probably not an infection.. looks like a small knot of scar tissue where your body is simply getting used to having a foreign object, and that's where the lymph (the normal white stuff-dead cells) is balled up. Take one aspirin, grind it into a fine powder, add a drop or two of water until it makes a paste, and then place it on the lump for 5 minutes. do this 2x a day, and in a couple of days, should be fine. i had the same thing when i got my tongue pierced 8 years ago. also, make sure you dont subconsciously play with your barbell either; that makes it harder for it to heal.

when i got my tongue pierced, it did that too. all i did was dip a Q-tip in some campho-phenique [they are little green bottles you can find at Rite Aid or something] and dab it on the infection site. do that two or three times a day [as many as you'd like actually] until it goes away. campho-phenique smells strong but it doesn't taste that bad. i promise. =] good luck and let me know if that worked.

Hey,

I got my tongue pierced about 7 months ago.

Took it out about 2 weeks ago.

Noticed what looks like scar tissue where the piercing was. It's not painful at all, it just seems/looks/feels like a lump of tongue that wont shrink! Ive been rinsing with non iodized sea salt and generally keeping a good eye on it.

Spoke to the dentist and he said keep an eye on it but it doesnt look serious

Check the pics and please let me know if i should just wait it out and hope it shrinks OR see a doctor.

Cheers!

I have had mine for about 2 years now. Is it likely to get infected all of a sudden? I have never had any problems with it before, but suddenly when I wanted to change it, I noticed a blob like thing, just like the picture, and on the bottom there was some "extra skin" surrounding the ball, in a whitish shade, but not puss - I really hope its nothing, but does anyone have a qualified guess?
And if it is an infection how fast can it "grow" - in other words, how carefully should I be?

I have had mine for 2 years now. I have a similarly shaped "thing". I went to a piercingshop (the one that made it in the first place) And asked them. They said that it wasnt unusual, and that it most likely was caused by excessive playing or an accidental rip in the tung. So the lump you are seeing is the tongue trying to heal after a rip, in your case a rip to the front, in my case on the back. You should avoid playing too much with it, and use Listerine (no just boiled an salted water) to clean your mouth morning and night.

To avoid this happening again, change the barbel to a shorter one, as this will reduce the risk of tearing again. I went from a 16mm to a 14mm, usually 2mm is enough, but in some cases 4mm can be necessary.

Another solution is to take it out, let it heal, and have it made again. But if you are not bothered by the bump, there is no need to do anything.

Anyway, thats the advice I was given.

cut back smoking. when you do decide to have a cigerette, dilute mouthwash with 1/4 water.

I got mine done about 5 weeks ago and the same thing is going on with mine, i smoke cigarettes too but i don't think thats the problum, i have a little cut right under mine and it happened in the first week it happened. and it hasn't healed yet, just give it some time, it will hurt for a wile, mine still does. just rinse it out regularly.

Hey hey Hey
I had exactly the same with my bridge piercing!
It looks a bit like scar tissue its not easy to get rid of unless you know how
Dont worry and dont pick at it.
Obv idk what your day to day cleaning routine is but use listerine mouthwash or warm salt water (boil the water n let it cool)

Basicly what it looks like that has happened is the bar is to big for your tounge so the scar tissue has over grown, Take the bar out and get 4mm down or 2mm down. The bar looks big so go for the 4mm down (e.g 18mm to 14mm)

Carry on cleaning it and it should go down in about 1-3 weeks.

i hope this helps

Never use Listerine! It's alcohol based and will burn like hell. Try using Biotene instead, it's the same thing but alcohol free so it won't irritate the piercing.

WHOA!! okay yeah, theres something wrong there.....DO NOT under any circumstances use mouthwash with alochol in it!! it dries it out and it will NEVER heal.........swelling is normal.... Since you smoke (As do I ) after you smoke first thing wash your mouth out...and , if you dont have non alochol mouth wash...use warm salt water..(1tsp per cup warm water works PERFECT!) Good luck!
