Realize this is an older post. My thoughts & prayers are with all of you who've been permanently injured due to a spinal tap. My father suffered permanent injury/severe pain & then 20 years ago, I did also. Blood patch procedure did help the extremely severe pain BUT the lower spinal pain, both hips painful & the headaches! Feels like a steel ball of pain bouncing around the head. I had concerns before the spinal tap but a nurse assured me, "It's just like a blood test'. That was the biggest lie, I've been told, to date. It felt like a nail gun was used on my spine. PLEASE warn your family & friends against having spinal taps. Only between 5% to 20% of iatrogenic injuries/deaths are reported/recorded according to Gary Null. While my minor injury was inconvenient, the botched surgery & then the spinal tap finished me. BEWARE of spinal tap. It is one of the most injuring diagnostic procedures.
Hello, any updates on you post spinal tap symptoms
This is what happen to me. I'm pissed someone did this to me. Sacral swelling now and big problems.
It’s been seven months for me and I still have it. It went away a couple of months ago and I thought it was finally over but now it’s back. I plan on suing the hospital. Hope yours resolves a lot faster than mine

My life will never be the same after my spinal tap. Almost 5 months later and the pain is crippling.
I feel your pain , I had the same thing done to me and my doctor that did it turned out to be a resident !!! He had no idea what he was doing .I was in pain the whole time and he got nothing from it and went on way pass the time frame my husband even busted in the room yelling at him saying that's enough ! It felt as though he was sticking every place through my body except the right place! Now a couple of months later I have the exact same pain my lower back side and my front!!!!!! I keep telling my doctors that he did something to me but noone will listen!!! Now I'm going to have a scope done hopefully they can tell me what was damage! I hope this is not forever!
After a failed discectomy/fusion of c-5/c-6, I went to see a specialist & he ordered a spinal tap. Right before procedure, my gut screamed, "NOOOO, DON"T DO IT!" I voiced my concerns to a nurse who poo pooed me & said, "It's a simple painless procedure, just like a simple blood test". Well she lied. After an agonizing huge spike was punched into my spine , I spent days of sheer agony of the WORST pain imaginable in spine and head with severe blurry vision & nausea/vomiting. My mom had to move in to care for me. Then the blood patch....Now, about 19 years later the severe spinal pain & headaches are only worsening with a twisting, pulling (sideways)in the spine, pain in both hips and headaches that feel like heavy steel ball smacking the inside of my skull.I feel off balance when I walk and am in constant pain. Allopathy is dangerous. Iatrogenic injury is as common as rain. I'm writing this to WARN OTHERS. Don't let them use a nail gun on your spine.
in 2014 i had LP it took 17 gos to do it on 16 go doc hit my spine,,the pain throw my body was to much..its 2019 and i am in wheel chair and in so much pain every min of life..thanks doctors
Actually yes I had a spinal tap done last week, and you can in fact DIE from it. It’s a low percentage, but anyone who doesn’t really need it- do not get it done! Even though the Dr said to. I really wish I didn’t have it done- I am in very bad lower back pain and my leg is numb.
My wife just had the procedure done 2 days ago. The waiver they make you sign says you could die from it, being as they have it on the waiver, it's had to have happened once or twice
Yes your right it is possible to die from it as they tap in to the spinal fluid and for that reason it means it's possible for infection to get in as it's a direct open wound and that's the quickest way for it to travel to the brain but it is very very rare for it to actually happen, it's just something they have to include on the waver form just so you have been informed.
Reading through these posts is telling. Medical workers vehemently deny that lumbar puncture causes injury. The proof is in the pudding. I never knew that diagnostic tests can injure people. Too late now. Recently pain & extreme muscle hardness/stiffness in buttocks and backs of upper legs added to the splitting pain at puncture sight.. Also never had headaches before the procedure. Now they come on suddenly with squeezing pain & feeling of a heavy marble banging inside of the head. No doctor will believe me.Searching for herbal remedies for spinal pain.
