It sounds like you may have complex regional pain syndrome it is very rare but can be caused by a needle damaging a nerve it is a degenerative disease and one of the most painful does the first area of trauma feel warm? You can look it up on line or ask the neurologist, I hope this helps it can at least lead to proper medication.

Something can go wrong during the procedure and you can die. I had to sign the waiver and you will have to as well if you are getting this done. Think about it - if you are having a needle stuck in your spine - paralysis - even death can occur. It's very low - but yes it can happen.

I have a friend going through the same, I told her that I think we need to find a malpractice lawyer? I've never done this sort of thing but I'm sick of seeing her make no progress while the hospital just pops whatever pain pill they want to in her face!

Hi all - I'm 21 from Wales, UK and I had a lumbar puncture in England last year (June 2014) when I was diagnosed with a Pineal brain tumour and the first LP was done by an unsupervised junior doctor who didn't give enough time for the sedative to kick in and spent 3 attempts and 25 minutes knocking nerves in my back - I was screaming in excruciating pain for the whole duration - for the LP to fail. A senior doctor did another the next day, painless, and in and out within 4 minutes.
When I woke up the next day, the lady on the opposite side of the ward asked my why I was walking funny. I didn't notice, but after I was told I noticed my knees were buckling underneath me like "jelly legs" and the doctors kept saying "oh you'll be ok in 3 days" and would say a random number of days each time. They quickly discharged me and I got worse every day and by August (2 months later) I couldn't walk at all and now I am wheelchair bound. They refuse to say what's wrong with me and won't give me a diagnosis, all they say is "we don't know what's wrong with your legs". I am fed up. Yesterday I phoned a lumbar puncture medical lawyer and they think I have a case as all the other doctors I've seen outside of that hospital have all said "well isn't it obvious that the LP caused all this then?" but it's being covered up in the hospital. Just thought I'd share to insist that you avoid LP's at any cost or you could end up like me! x

I had same similar experience , I had an intense pain in my lower back and I start limping which lead me to have different issues so I think you should go back and see your physician

Hello, Please tell me that you are doing okay now and this is all in the past?. I have been told stress can do crazy things as far as some very unusual symptoms. We can struggle with a lot of aches and pains that can be very severe that docs. cannot diagnose.. The old saying goes stress can kill you. People are always saying don't get so stressed out, or stop worrying!! It is not like I do it on purpose. . For some reason all the things I worry about hit me hard at night. It is an abundance of fear, and aches and pains that overwhelm me. They seem to be so insignifacent in my waking hours. Okay mental overload is what I say, referring to myself. Whatever your health problems were or are may you find the right doc with blessed hands who can treat you..and heal you.. I am praying that you are 37 now and living it up. I. myself have Chronic back issues with 2 previous surgeries of the back. I did have a spinal cord leak on one and they used cement to repair it as I laid flat on my back for several hours waiting to move. The doc sais it was just a minor surgeries. (Minor)?? What would be a considered a not so minor surgery?. I am left with a lot of permanent numbness in my right ft, and calf of leg which never stops hurting. This causing falls due to the numbness in the foot and leg affecting my stability. I live daily with the Chronc back pain. I am now dealing with extreme headaches to the max that is a new symptom along with some light headed. It is causing falls due to the head pain. The extreme head pain is why I ended up in ER. on a late night. I had my first and last Spinal Tap. Who dreamed an ER docter would do a Spinal Tap without a guided x-ray machine of some type and assistance.. The unkwown of our aches and pains can be very frustrating as well as scary. . I understand your frustration and fear of( WHAT IS WRONG?) Why am I having these symtoms with all this pain? I myself have had 2 CT brain scans and a Spinal tap. All good. Thank God but not an explanation to my severe pain. Now I am dealing with Chronic severe headaches from the recent Spinal tap that I hope will be gone soon. It has now been 7 days.

I'm in the hospital right now I had one earlier today and everything went fine in mine and I was ok minus the headache I knew I was going to get since then my whole body feels like it's on fire and I had this done because I have no feeling what so ever. All they told me was they were doing it at 3, they did it in my hospital room which I share and the nursea are rolling their eyes at me....

I have extream neck pain like really bad and I honestly feel like I'm on fire but no fever. They told me now this is normal.... I'm a 26 year old hairstylist and I have a feeling this just ended my career. However the tap WAS necesserily as none of the other tests I have had show anything..... they didn't warn me about everything though and made it sound like no big deal. When my aunt got here she lost her sh*t.

Appatently.....You can ask for a specialist to do it. You can refuse it. You have the right to have it done in a strrile room... you have the right to a second opinion and ask questions a lot of questions people don't they just say oh that sounds serious and medical ok...

Questions to ask: is there tests we can do before this is necessary, why are you performing a spinal tap, can I have a second opinion, how deep of a tap is it? (Some take just fluid and is like an epidural some tske marrow), how long should I lay flat after, why, what can I do to minimize swelling and bruising on the site, should I up my water intake, is icing my back or heating my back ok,should it affect bowel movements and for how long, how should I sleep after (on my back or side) will walking affect the healing, how long does it take for spinal fluid to rpenis, how much does a normal spinal tap take out, how much are you taking out, where are you taking it out

You will feel crazy asking so many questions however it is worth it and I wish I had. However for things like TB or Meningitis or MS thay is not presenting in the brain yet (rare but happens) spinal taps are very important
Good luck

I had one done in Oct. 2015 and the doctor went in over 8 times in one sitting, a few days later I went to my doctor and they told me they the excruciating pain I was going through was normal! I kept going back to my doctor for vibration in my hip and then later it was having lower abdominal pain and the had an ultra sound done (found nothing) then my left leg and both legs and both arms have the feel of electric currants running through them. started swelling (no blood clot) in left leg, pain in my lower and upper back are so painful that it hurts to walk and I went back to my doctors (seems like i never see the same one) and this last one said why haven't I said anything before and I told her I did many times and she said there is nothing in my records except once when I said I had back pain. they are covering for this doctor because they are all associated with the same hospital. I never had a back problem, I went in for a headache and now I am in to much pain to walk, clean my house or have any kind of pressure put on my body and I now have to use walking sticks to help me move from room to room. finally in 2 more weeks they are sending me to a neurosurgeon, after 5 long suffering months!
