2007 developed intense itch in anal area. Showering and BM aggravates it. GP referred me to dermatologist. Dermatologist says it's nonspecific dermatitis, prescribes desonide ointment to reduce flare up and to use aquafor on regular basis to keep skin moist. Says I may have to live with it, but isn't communicable.

2008 spreads to pubic region. Given same diagnosis. (Why did it spread?) Aquafor never helps long term, desonide helps after 10 days or so to calm down the region.

2009, get married, after not bathing for 2 days, have intercourse with wife, 8 hours later she is describing same anal itch. I see second opinion, have biopsy (not during flare up though), given same diagnosis. Tea tree soap seems to help keep things calm.

2010 still have it. Tea tree soap not helping anymore. Herpes test is negative. General skin allergy test negative (85% of common allergens tested). Changed soap, shampoo, no more conditioner. Tried coal tar soap, no help. Aquafor is pointless. Scheduled OBGYN appt. for wife. Getting third opinion. Advanced allergen tested scheduled. Wife saw dermatologist but they were more interested in getting her on 5 other medications for dandruff, dry skin, moles removed, and other things and barely even cared about the actual issue we came to see her about.

I have been told repeatedly it's not a fungus, and nothing other than dermatitis. Why does it spread when I itch it from 1" by 2" patch to 3-4" by 3-4" patch? Why did tea tree oil soap work for some time? Why doesn't aquafor help?

No one seems to care that this noncommunicable issue spread to my wife. No one can answer it when they say "nonspecific dermatitis." They just shrug like I am crazy. At least lie to me and say it's a new form of communicable skin dermatitis.

The itchy skin doesn't look red until you scratch it. Scratching it near my scrotum makes the skin tough and bumpy. Tissue salts (4s, 5s, 6s) don't help. It moves from rectum to upper/lower anus, bottom of scrotum, sides of pubic area, never on penis itself, never anywhere else. Wife has same issues (replace penis with vaginal area naturally.)

Thoughts? I don't want to know how I can live with it, I want to know what it is and how I can stop it because a skin disorder doesn't just jump to your wife.
Hi there,
I have the exact same problem as you, did you ever find out what the cause was?
I seem to have hit a dead end with the doctors any help and advice would be great.

Thanks

I also have the same problem.
I am a male 32, clean, healthy.
I contracted this from a lovely, healthy young woman in south America.
Within five minutes of having protected intercourse I could feel a hot crawling sensation in inner thighs.
I have been battling it for 4 months now.
It flares up from time to time, but also can subside and then is barely noticeable.
I have had full STD panel (Herpes, HIV, etc) - all negative.
I have tried the antifungals - Micatin, Econazole (prescription) - they provide temporary relief.
Since contracting this my scrotum has been a bright red color - and the skin of the scrotum is grizzled.
If I scratch my scrotum and then scratch my eyes too then my eyes start to itch - although typically this subsides within a few hours.
Oh, and my anus -- very, very itchy always! That is where the itch is most persistent, the itch around my anys never really subsides, there is always a steady itch there.
I have searched every online help forum, and seems like there are lots of ppl with this problem.
But seems to be no known diagnosis.
It is ruining my life. I am very reluctant to get too close to my wife as I know it is communicable. As that is how I got it.
What can I do? Does anyone have any answers? I am at the end or my rope.

Go to a proctologist. You need to keep the area DRY - no aquaphor!! Use a cornstarch baby powder. The proctologist has treated me with Gentian Violet which is over the counter. It's a purple first aid antiseptic liquid. It stays for about 2 days. It's nothing that you should use all the time -- the proctologist doesn't even recommend that you buy it. I just asked what it was last time. He also prescribed me Desonate Gel to use for 10 days. I feel better after 2 days! I have had your same situation going on myself for over 2 years. Just remember to keep it dry! Your diet is also a factor. You should avoid coffee, sodas and sugary fruit choices. I hope this helps. I would never have seen a dermatologist for this condition. The proctologist deals with this every day. It has taken more than one visit for him to prescribe the Desonate gel. It is prescribed in extreme circumstances evidentially. Good Luck!

I thought I'd log-in to see if anyone had posted a solution -- sadly I am still living in intense agony with this problem of hyper itchy testicles and anus.
I did find some interesting references to 'red bag syndrome' on other Internet websites, and these sites explain the symptoms very well, but no solutions. Well, lots of proposed solutions, but all seem to be experimental, and mostly out of desperation.
It seems lots of guys have been living with this for 6 months, 2 years, 4 years, etc --- I have now had it for approx. 5 months.
Over the past month I have been trying to ignore in in hopes it would eventually go away, and based on some Internet sites saying that anti-fungal creams are the irritant that causes it, but it is relentless. It flares up again and again and is always present and makes my life extremely miserable.
The fact that the medical establishment is totally clueless as to what this condition is and what to do about it is very scary.
If you are a doctor and read this and want to discuss my symptoms please post a reply here and I will reach out.

I have something simular and used hydrogen peroxide. Pour it on a clean tissue and soak the area. Let it dry before reclothing.

Worked for me :)

Have the same rash but it's mostly during the evening and at night sometimes it itches during the day when using the bathroom.  Wondering if everyone has it full time or is it worse at night?

Would simply be something that you have yourself, not a communicable disease.

Use White Cider Vinegar, it will burn like hell for a cpl seconds then itch will go away. Area will be clean. You will get some sleep. Not a cure just a treatment that works.

HI - both my partner and I have the same problem ... see an ayurvedic naturopath. We have fungal infections, sometimes it appears in the skin around eyes, sometimes inside ear canals, and at this point, almost always itchy anally. I've learned that fungal and yeast (as in, Candida) infections are really stubborn and difficult to get rid of; you have to be incredibly vigilant. We take very specific and rotating anti-fungal supplements constantly, drink lots of water, saunas all the time, and exercise (i.e.: you must sweat). We have cut out ALL sweeteners from our diets, ALL carbs (this includes fruit, starchy vegetables, rice, all of it) except for green vegetables, coffee, and dairy: a very strict candida diet. And keep everything, selves included, VERY clean. After 1.5 years (:-$) we are noticing changes, finally. But one slip, and back it comes. Even strong anti-fungal meds only work temporarily, particularly if we don't do all the rest.

It can be beaten - good expert help and a lot of determination go a long way in helping to so do. Nice side effect of all this: lots of energy, slimmed down incredibly, feel a lot better, and the best preventive medicine for aging, heart disease, stroke, cancer, auto-immune deficiency problems, ad infinitum! You simply feel better!
